‘Film Industry Needs To Pay More To Writers’

Share

Mumbai: Actor-producer Aamir Khan feels the Hindi industry needs to pay more to writers, who are a fundamental part of the moviemaking process.

Aamir attended the grand finale of Cinestaan India’s Storyteller Script Contest 2018, and said such competitions could bring out more talent. He was joined by writers Juhi Chaturvedi and Anjum Rajabali here on Monday.

“I felt really happy when I came to know that Anjum (Rajabali) is very keen to organise the screenwriting competition because India is a huge country. There are people who want to tell different kind of stories but they don’t get the opportunity, so it’s a good platform where people can send their stories,” the “PK” actor said.

“The film industry also needs competitions like these as we need fresh writers with different perspectives so, when Anjum invited me, Juhi (Chaturvedi) and Rajuji (Hirani). We thought it is a really nice attempt and we should support it,” the actor said.

Writers’ remuneration has always been a talking point in the film industry.

Asked whether writers should be paid enough so that they can come up with good stories, Aamir said: “This script writing competition is an endeavour to encourage people to come and write and we shouldn’t stop here. In the film industry as producers, we should be paying much more to the writers.

“I choose my film on the basis of scripts, so I think writers are the most important aspect of filmmaking because a story is the origin of a film. When a writer writes a good script, after that we all associate with that project. In that sense, a writer is actually the fundamental person in this whole process.”

Aamir said he is trying to create a revenue model for writers in the industry, in collaboration with writers and producers.

“There is no doubt that a film is a director’s medium because he becomes the narrator of the story and it’s a team work where actors and technicians are also involved. But the writer is a person from whom a story originates, so I feel a writer should get revered position and the monetary compensation for a writer should definitely be higher in the industry.

“On that issue, we have discussed a lot and we are trying to create a revenue model also for that.”

As part of Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Script Contest, launched by Cinestaan Digital Pvt Ltd, winners were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 50 lakh.

While giving away the top award, Aamir said: “Without a good script, there can never be a good film. There are many good and deserving writers in our country. However, not all of them have the right platform or opportunities to showcase their talent. This platform aims at achieving precisely that.”

“Baahubali is a slap on our face and I’m that has happened. That led to a revolution in Bollywood now. We are coming up with many of such magnum opuses now” said ace producer, director and show host Karan Johar, who is now releasing “2 Point O” in Hindi arena.

Sharing his thoughts on south films, especially Telugu films, dominating the Bollywood scenario, he said, “The biggest blockbuster in Hindi right now is a Telugu film dubbed into Hindi. And the second biggest blockbuster, a Hindi film, stands almost 150 crores behind it”. But he pointed that the arrival of Baahubali helped them understand how technology will help to narrate some compelling dramas.

“Baahubali, Robot and now 2 Point O are going to challenge us big time, and I’m happy that they are challenging. Because that helps us stand on our toes and deliver something bigger. We have only Bhansali doing such biggies all the while and now many others are trying to come up with such films” Karan Johar added.

Well, that sums up how Rajamouli’s Baahubali has impacted Bollywood, and what are those filmmakers thinking right now.

Pawan also made surprising comments on Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. Talking about Rahul Gandhi’s relationship status “single”, Pawan said, “They say Rahul is a bachelor. No one knows what is happening inside. If personal matters have an impact on governance and law, definitely, I’d talk about them. But if they have no impact on people, what is the use about talking personal affairs.”

Pawan also alleged that AP State Government and the Central Government has no guts to take on Reliance that is “looting” Gas reserves of us.

Talking about Chief Minister post that he has been aspiring for, Pawan said CM post is not a “decoration” for him. He said that patriotism is his investment and people are his strength. Pawan said that he would bring transparency in governance if Janasena comes to power.

The Owaisi brothers are in headlines for the past couple of days with their statements. After Akbar, it’s Asaduddin who revealed the political offers he received.

Speaking at a public meeting in Hyderabad Asad said, Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu had called him and asked to decide whom he would be supporting in the elections (KCR or PrajaKootami). “I rejected the offer by Chandrababu as he has a history of back-stabbing,” added Asad.

He further stated he is not afraid of Chandrababu or Rahul Gandhi and so he rejected Naidu’s offer. Defending his brother’s statement, Asad said, “AIMIM will play a crucial role post the elections and will be driving force in forming the government.”

Unlike before Owaisi brothers statements have become a hot discussion among political circles. In the coming few days we might expect a lot more controversial stuff from them.

In Comparison, 2.0 Is Nowhere Near Baahubali

Share

Released in 2015 and 2017 respectively, Baahubali The Beginning and The Conclusion had cost its produces nearly 450 crores. And for the soon to release sci-fi entertainer 2.0, the makers are claiming that they have spent over 500 crores and that 2.0 is India’s most expensive film till date.

However, the ordinary graphics and half-baked visuals are becoming a troll material for netizens. Adding to that, even the trailer failed to create a strong buzz for the film. Shockingly, even though the film’s release is just a couple of days away, there’s not much interest among moviegoers. The general opinion is that November 29 in not an appropriate date for release.

On the other hand, the pre-release promotional posters 2.0’s team is releasing over the last few days are not impressed. Seeing the underwhelming buzz, the makers released a full song and even that failed to create much momentum.

With Rajinikanth and Shankar at the helm, 2.0 may surely get record openings. However, to think that 2.0 will beat Baahubali collections will be preposterous. For Baahubali, movie buffs across the country waited with bated breaths till the film’s release, but same is not the case with 2.0.

Telangana Polls: Congress Vehicle Plays Swarnandhra Song

Share

With election date approaching fast, almost all the political parties in the fray are upping the ante in the poll-campaigns. From mud slinging to claiming credits, from nailing oppositions to making fun of them, every contestant and political party are flaunting their own merit.

However, some situations are quite surprising to see and the so-called “Praja Kutami” in Telangana elections is throwing many such. People in many constituencies are shocked to see the campaign jeeps of Congress party, which are loaded with stickers of Telugu Desam Party, TJS and CPI, are also playing songs of other parties.

Especially when the jeep is heard playing the song “Chandrababu is the one who turned the state into Swarnandhra”, many are stunned. While we could understand the fact that Congress will play TDP songs as they are part of Prajakutami, how come Swarnandhra song in Telangana elections? Both TDP and Congress need to update to some new songs, isn’t it?

On the other hand, poll flexis that have images of Sonia, Rahul, Naidu, NTR, Kodandaram, and others have also becoming a talking point.

Mythri Revamping New Productions!

Mythri Movie Makers is shot to fame with three back-to-back blockbusters. No producer had delivered such huge hits with top stars in Tollywood in a row.

The massive successes of “Srimanthudu” with Mahesh Babu, “Janatha Garage” with NTR and “Rangasthalam” with Ram Charan put the banner in top league in no time.

As “Rangasthalam” has created a new record at box-office, the production house got a kick and has planned 10 movies in 2019.

The makers recently announced that they would be releasing a movie for every one month or two months. However, their spirits were dampened by the recent two flops. “Savyasachi” and “Amar Akbar Anthony” have changed their plans as both films tanked at the box-office.

Except “Dear Comrade” that stars Vijay Deverakonda, all new productions that were announced will now be going for revamp.

Sources say the producers have decided to recheck all the scripts that the directors have narrated them. Some of the projects might be called off.

They are not in hurry now.
