Naidu To Expand Cabinet Finally!
After much dilly-dallying and indefinite postponement, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has finally decided to expand his council of ministers.According to the information from the chief minister’s office, Naidu would induct two ministers in the minor reshuffle at a simple function on Sunday.
In a way, he is going to fill two vacancies caused by the resignation of two BJP ministers in April this year, after the TDP broke away from the NDA.It is learnt, Naidu has decided to induct Kidari Sravan Kumar, son of slain Araku MLA Kidari Sarveshwar Rao, into the state cabinet.
Apparently, Naidu saw a spark in Sravan, an engineering graduate from IIT and decided to groom him into a politician.This would not only send positive signals among the tribals, who were agitated over the inaction of the police in providing security to the slain MLA, but also secure support from the youth.Though Sravan is neither an MLA nor an MLC, he can continue as a minister for another six months.
In any case, there would be elections in the next six months and in the meantime, there would be MLC elections in February/March.Sravan can be made an MLC or can be fielded directly as an MLA from Araku in place of his father.Besides Sravan, Naidu might take a minority leader into the cabinet. The name of Mohammad Sharif, an MLC, is doing rounds in the TDP circles.
Sarkar Bow Down to AIADMK Pressure, Agree to Cuts
Chennai: With the ruling AIAMDK opposed to the Vijay-starring ‘Sarkar’ over certain scenes and a character’s name, the producer and director of the Tamil movie have obtained CBFC’s permission to voluntarily delete some visuals and mute some dialogues, said an official.
The Central Board of Film Certification said excisions and modifications carried out in the originally certified movie were: (a) deletion of visuals of throwing a mixie and grinder into fire; (b) muting the name ‘Komala’ from the full name of the character ‘Komalavalli’ and removing the same from subtitles; and (c) muting the dialogue ‘Podhuppaniththuraia’ (PWD) and ’56 Varusham’ (56 years) and the removal of those words from subtitles.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Information and Publicity Kadambur Raju said the issue has been settled as the film unit “has agreed to our demand of removing the objectionable scene.”
The AIADMK’s objection was to the scene that showed the actor throwing out mixie and grinder — given free by the government to the poor — into the fire.
The AIAMDK government under late J. Jayalalithaa offered free mixer, grinder, laptops and others to the poor.
The other reason for the ruling party opposing the movie is the name of a character ‘Komalavalli’ which they say is the birth name of their late leader Jayalalithaa.
On Thursday state Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam compared the scenes (burning of freebies) in the movie with terrorist activity aimed at instigating violence against the state government.
Party cadres protested outside the theatres which screened the movie in several places and damaged the banners on Thursday and Friday morning.
Earlier in the day, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan tweeted: “It is nothing new for the state government to exert illegal political pressure on movies that got proper certification.”
“Governments that does not have the guts to accept criticisms will derail. The businessmen group will go and the good people who would come to power will win,” Kamal Haasan said.
Similarly, actor Rajinikanth tweeted in support of the the movie condemning damage to the film’s banners.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court ordered the Tamil Nadu police not to arrest ‘Sarkar’ movie Director A.R. Murugadoss who had approached it seeking anticipatory bail.
He had approached the court after state ministers voiced their opposition to the movie with Law Minister Shanmugam threatening legal action.
No Buyers To Big Combination!
It’s a big combination. Be it the film’s star hero or the film’s director or the film’s producer or the film’s heroine, all of them have once enjoyed the ace image in the industry. But their luck isn’t favouring and they’re now on downside. This is seen as a major hindrance for the film’s craze in trade circuits.
Trade talk is that no buyers are even daring to go near this ‘Big Combination’ film. Even as the film has completed all its work and is gearing up for release, buyers are said to be not interested to take risk. Given that the director’s previous films failed miserably and even the star hero’s last film was a big let down, buyers said to be maintaining distance.
And now this is worrying the production house who wants to make this film a success and move on here after. Will the dreams of the producers come true? Only time will tell. Let’s wait and see.
Rana steps into his father’s shoes
At five different places and with large crew, pre-production of Hiranyakasapa, a Gunasekhar directorial and Rana Daggubati starrer is underway. Currently, the film is in the pre-production stage and even Rana is working very hard to pipeline this film. He who is busy with the ongoing films is finishing those projects as soon as possible, so that he can focus more on this Gunasekhar directorial.
By taking help of many graphic designers from the Ramanaidu Studios as well as other top notch makers from various parts of country, Rana is trying to make this project the best one ever. In fact, for this film, he turned the producer and stepped into his father’s shoes and taking utmost care. He is also taking care of the making and production of Amar Chitra Katha.
It is known that Rana was an ad film photographer and had directed many ads before he turned an actor. So he is trying to implement all the techniques and help his father in making things easy, just like he did it for Kancherapalem.
Rana is a Star Wars and a Marvel fan. So inspired from such films, the actor and the technical team in the Suresh Productions are trying to make different films in the industry in the coming days.
50% Of Total Budget Is What Nani Demands?
Of course, every hero hikes his fee basing on his present market at the box office. After the super success of Geetha Govindam, Vijay Devarakonda is said to be asking for 10 crores paycheque. Then what about his senior Nani, who is scoring back to back hits and above-average films from some time?
Earlier Nani used to ask for 6-8 crores, depending on the kind of film and the producer. But now, he is said to be asking for a 50% total budget of the movie as his pay packet. That said, he wants to take home something more than that of 10+ crores per film.
A little birdie tells us, “Nani’s films are usually made with 15-25 crores budget. And even if he takes 50% of that as his fee, it adds 7-13 cr to the budget, while his films are getting sold at 35-40 crores. That gives producer 5-10 crores profit even before the film releases”.
However, Nani has to make sure that he will pick up subjects that are unique to him rather than DevaDas and Krishnarjuna Yudham which are completely away from his domain.
Anushka ‘Silently’ Lost Weight?
The film Size Zero did not a help Anushka a bit, but the kilos gained for the film have not left her since then. Though she was part of magnanimous Baahubali and the blockbuster hit Bhaagamahi, Anushka lost few offers, particularly Saaho due to her chubby looks.
The yoga trainer turned actress has now gone to the USA for naturotherapy to lose weight and soon will be back to act a film for which Kona Venkat gave the story. It is heard that she is going to look slim and perfect for this film.
This film is probably a science thriller and Anushka is going to pair up Madhavan, with whom she made a debut in films 13 years back with ‘Rendu’. Subbaraju will also be playing a crucial role in the movie and the final title is yet to be fixed, but ‘Silence’ is being considered for now.
Vastadu Na Raju fame Hemanth Madhukar will be directing the movie and the official announcement will be made soon. The shooting will begin in the USA, early next year.
