Telangana: 3 Families Get Double Tickets In Cong!

Share

The list of the Congress party candidates for the upcoming assembly elections has not yet been officially out, but the leaked list is creating flutters in the party.

One of the interesting aspects of this leaked list is that the Congress high command has set aside its own rule of “one-family-one-ticket” and allotted two seats to each of the three families.

Apparently, the AICC relaxed the rule on the pretext that saying it will not be applicable for the leaders whose family members already contested the previous elections and also the sitting MLAs of the party.

Accordingly, the party is learnt to have finalized the tickets to Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy from Huzurnagar and his wife Padmavathi, an ex-MLA from Kodad; Komatireddy Venkat Reddy from Nagonda and his brother Rajagopal Reddy, an ex-MP, from Munugode; and Sabita Indra Reddy from Maheshwaram and Karthik Reddy from Rajendranagar. Karthik contested from Chevella Lok Sabha seat in 2014.

However, former Congress Legislature Partyleader K Jana Reddy is unlucky though the party high command has relaxed its rule. His hectic lobbying for his son Raghuveer Reddy from Miryalguda has not yielded any result.

Cong List Leaked, Protests Raging

Share

The Congress party is yet to release the official list of candidates for the ensuring assembly elections in Telangana, but protests have already started in the party over the leaked list.

While former Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah registered a protest with the party high command over denial of ticket from Jangaon which was allotted to the Telangana Jana Samithi, another former minister and Congress manifesto committee co-chairman Komatireddy Venkat Reddy openly revolted against the high command over denial of ticket to his follower Chirumarhi Lingaiah from Nakrekal constituency.

As part of the grand alliance, Nakirekal was allotted to Telangana Inti Party, which is likely to field wife of party president Cheruku Sudhakar.

“This is atrocious. It is a winning seat for the Congress and if it is allotted to Telangana Inti Party, it is bound to lose the elections,” he said.

Demanding that the party high command rethink over the decision, Komatireddy said he would not contest from Nalgonda, if Lingaiah was not given the ticket from Nakrekal.

He even warned that his supporters across the state will defeat the Congress main leaders if party failed to provide ticket to Lingaiah.

Komatireddy is also upset with the reports that his brother Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is also being denied ticket from Munugode assembly seat.

Meanwhile, a large number of Congress activists from Malkajgiri staged a dharna in front of Gandhi Bhavan demanding that the party should give ticket to Congress leader Sridhar, instead of allotting the same to Telangana Jana Samithi. The party leadership is trying to convince them.

Disgruntled Ponnala To Join TRS?

Share

The leakage of reports from New Delhi that the Congress party has allotted Jangaon assembly seat to Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) as part of seat sharing deal in Maha Kootami has led to strong protests from the camp of former Pradesh Congress Committee president and ex-minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.

According to reports, TJS president Prof M Kodandaram is likely to contest from Jangaon assembly seat; and so, the Congress party is contemplating allotting another seat like Warangal (West) to Ponnala. This has caused a lot of heart burn in Ponnala and his followers.

He reportedly told the Congress high command that it was not proper to allocate Jangaon seat to Reddy community, as it has a large number of BCs. If he was denied the ticket, there was a possibility of strong revolt from the BCs, he said.

Taking advantage of the disgruntlement in Ponnala camp, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leadership is learnt to have sent feelers to lure him into its camp.

Apparently, the TRS leadership is learnt to have offered to give him Jangaon MLA seat and if he wins the seat, he would be made finance minister.

However, Ponnala is learnt to have asked the messengers from the TRS that he would consider the offer, if TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao directly spoke to him and extend the invitation.

In the meantime, the Congress high command is also trying to pacify Ponnala so that he would not leave the party.

Lagadapati tries to stop raids at friend’s house

Hyderabad: Industrialist and former parliamentarian L. Rajagopal has tried to stop police from searching the residence of his friend, an official said.

Late on Thursday, Rajagopal rushed to businessman G.P. Reddy’s house on Jubliee Hills after learning that the police have arrived there.

He questioned the officers’ action without a search warrant.

The former Lok Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh entered into a heated argument with the officers present. At one point he stopped them from entering the house.

He also alleged that the police were harassing Reddy by conducting midnight searches despite his friend extending cooperation in the probe into a civil case.

When a sub-inspector was speaking with his senior on the phone, Rajagopal snatched the device and vented his ire on the person across the line.

He said Inspector General of Police Nagi Reddy was behind the search.

A case was registered against Reddy for allegedly faking documents related to a land belonging to a police official.

Deputy Commissioner of Police A.R. Srinivas clarified that police had gone to the Reddy house as part of the ongoing probe and it has the right to question an accused at any time.

‘I have a different approach on sexual harassment’

Share

Popular south Indian actress Nithya Menen says she is against sexual harassment and that she has a different way of countering it. She chose not be a part of a grouping as she prefers to fight it “silently”.

Last February, an actress had been kidnapped and assaulted in Kochi. Then it emerged that the abduction was allegedly masterminded by Malayalam superstar Dileep.

Later, actresses like Parvathy and women behind the scenes such as director Anjali Menon got together to launch the Women in Cinema Collective to identify the problems faced by women in the Malayalam film industry and explore ways to address them.

Nithya, who has starred in Malayalam films like “Akasha Gopuram”, “Apoorvaragam” and “Ustad Hotel”, was not a part of it.

In a previous interview, she had stated that she had never faced sexual harassment. But after reading about women from Malayalam cinema getting assaulted and some of her fraternity members forming a collective, didn’t she feel like joining them?

“I completely understand the thing that people are facing. I do everything possible to counter it. Just because I am not doing it one way, doesn’t mean that I am not countering those things or I am not against it. I am, but I have a different approach,” Nithya replied after a long pause during a telephonic interview with IANS.

“I believe that my way is only through my work. The way that I work and the kind of things that I do, the way that I approach people when I am working… all of this gives a strong message to people that I am working with, and to people who are watching my films.

“I have the same view as everybody else, but I prefer doing it my way. I don’t think that somebody is doing anything wrong or I don’t want to be a part of it. I am very much part of it. It’s just that I have a different way of countering the whole thing,” she added in the interview from Thiruvananthapuram, where she will be shooting for the upcoming Malayalam film “Kolambi”.

Will she walk out of a film if someone from it gets accused of sexual misconduct?

“Absolutely, and I have,” said the young actress without naming the film.

“I do it, but I do it silently. I have said ‘no’ to a film because of something like that,” said Nithya.

She has many films lined up, including “Mission Mangal” which will mark her debut in Bollywood.

Director Jagan Shakti and producer R. Balki had called her, saying: “We would love you to play a scientist in a really interesting film that we are doing. They also told me that (actor) Akshay Kumar was keen on me being a part of the film,” she said.

“In the past also, I was offered plenty of Hindi films. I just wanted to be as choosy with Hindi as I was with films in other languages that I have done. I wanted it (debut Hindi film) to be a really nice film. I found this a nice character. I don’t think we have done a film like this… you know, a space film,” said Nithya, who made her debut as a lead actress with Kannada film “7 O’Clock” over a decade ago.

The upcoming film, for which she will begin shooting from November-end in Mumbai and Bengaluru, will also star actresses like Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha and Vidya Balan.

“I don’t think ‘Is it just me? Am I the central character?’ I always look at the bigger picture. I don’t look at it as something that’s only for me. I look at it from the movie’s perspective — is it a good film? Would I want to watch the film?”

Vidya and Nithya will also be seen together in a biopic on the legendary actor-politician NT Rama Rao.

“I met her (Vidya) at the shoot of NTR’s biopic. We have one scene together. She said she had watched my films ‘OK Kanmani’ and ‘Bangalore Days’,” said Nithya.

Nithya will star in another biopic, playing late politician Jayalalitha in “The Iron Lady”.

“I am doing so many other films before that. I am doing another Malayalam film about a national level athlete. It’s going to be like ‘Dangal’. After that only, I will be getting into the biopic,” she said.

“The film on Jayalalitha is very heavy. I was very impressed when the film’s director Priyadarshini came with the film to me. She was so focussed. I told her that if we are doing a biopic, we should ensure complete justice to the character. She was going in the right direction and was extremely confident. I am really looking forward to do that film. That will be interesting to explore as an artiste,” she said.

First look: Sreenivas looks perfect in police avatar!

Hero Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas’ upcoming movie is titled ‘Kavacham’ and the film’s first look is unveiled. For the first time, Sreenivas is playing the role of a cop and in the first look he is seen in khakee uniform.

Seems like the police outfit suits the hero better as he appears dashing in black shades. His tall stance gives a mass appeal and makes a perfect first look launch.

This is a thriller and is completely different from what Sreenivas has done in the past. Being directed by newcomer Sreenivas Mamilla, the shooting of the film has been wrapped up except for the songs.

Kajal Aggarwal and Mehreen will be seen alongside Sreenivas in this film while Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is debuting in Tollywood with this flick.

Music is being composed by SS Thaman and the film is bankrolled by Nani of Vamsadhara Creations.

The makers are planning to release the movie in December.

Why Is Pawan So Confused On His Seat?

Share

Jana Sena Party chief and actor Pawan Kalyan seems to be a confused man with regard to choosing his assembly constituency for the upcoming assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.Wherever Pawan is going, he is making a statement that he would like to contest the next elections from that place.

The other day, addressing a public meeting at Pithapuram in East Godavari district, he said he would contest from Pithapuram assembly constituency, if Lord Sripada Vallabha was willing. He was reacting to an appeal made by local fishermen that he should contest from Pithapuram. He, however, said the decision of his contesting from Pithapuram would be decided by the selection committee based on various factors.

It was really surprising, as the Jana Sena chief made similar statements at other public meetings as well. For example, at Eluru meeting, he said he was considering the proposal to contest from Eluru constituency.Surprisingly, he even offered to contest from Paderu assembly constituency without even realising that it was reserved for SC.

Earlier, Pawan himself announced that people of Tirupathi and Anantapur were also requesting him to contest from their respective places. This will naturally create a confusion among the people. A leader should make up his mind to contest from a particular constituency and nurture the same for a long time to be able to give confidence to the voters there.

If there is an uncertainty on his constituency, he will have to face the debacle like his brother Chiranjeevi.“If he thinks he is a popular leader and has the capacity to win from any constituency, he is mistaken. People do not vote for any candidate so blindly. They will vote for such a leader who identifies himself with the local issues and fights for them,” an analyst observed.
