From Epics to Euphoria: Gunasekhar’s New Path
After Nippu, director Gunasekhar made a notable shift in his filmmaking style, setting his sights on pan-India projects with historical grandeur. His first such ambitious attempt, Rudhramadevi, received a decent response and established that Gunasekhar could successfully handle historical narratives. However, he was unable to maintain that momentum. Surprisingly, it took him nearly eight years to return with his next film.
That comeback was Shaakuntalam, a mythological drama that unfortunately failed to meet expectations. The film couldn’t recover its investment and ended up incurring heavy losses. In between Rudhramadevi and Shaakuntalam, Gunasekhar had planned a big-budget project titled Hiranyakashyapa, but due to various controversies and delays, it was eventually shelved.
Now, it seems Gunasekhar has taken a strategic U-turn. Instead of continuing with historical or mythological subjects, he is going back to his roots—the kind of commercial storytelling that once made him a popular name in Telugu cinema. His upcoming project, Euphoria, is currently in production under his direction. The film is targeted at the youth and promises a fresh narrative filled with engaging content designed to resonate with the younger generation.
Gunasekhar himself has clarified that while Euphoria is a youth-centric film, it will still bear his signature storytelling style. He emphasized that he has always strived to create films that stand out from the routine, citing past classics like Choodalani Undi, Ramayanam, and Okkadu as examples. According to him, Euphoria will follow a similar innovative path.
With this unexpected genre shift, it appears Gunasekhar is returning to a more commercially viable filmmaking format. At a time when Tollywood is riding high with pan-India hits, this move was not anticipated—but it could well be a defining turning point in his career.
Tripti Replaces Deepika in Prabhas’ ‘Spirit’
It has been a long time since the much-anticipated project Spirit, starring Prabhas and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was announced. Following the massive success of Animal, which grossed nearly ₹1,000 crore at the box office, expectations around Spirit have skyrocketed. Staying true to the hype, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga reportedly spent close to a year fine-tuning the script.
According to inside sources, Spirit is being crafted on an even larger scale than Animal, with Prabhas set to appear in two contrasting roles. Initially, Deepika Padukone was chosen to play the female lead, but she was later dropped due to various undisclosed reasons.
Interestingly, just hours after reports emerged that Deepika was no longer part of the film, the makers officially announced that Tripti Dimri would be replacing her. Industry buzz suggests that Deepika was dropped mainly due to her hefty remuneration demands. Reportedly, she asked for a fee of ₹20 crore along with additional allowances amounting to nearly ₹2.5 crore. The team felt this would significantly inflate the film’s budget, and hence decided to move forward with a different actress.
Sources from Bollywood indicate that Tripti Dimri is being paid approximately ₹5 crore for her role in Spirit—a substantial hike compared to her previous films, which speaks to the importance of her role in this project. Had Deepika remained onboard, the overall budget could have increased by ₹15 to ₹17 crore, a figure the makers preferred to invest either into production quality or save for future use.
This development also highlights a shifting trend in Bollywood, where female actors are now commanding fees comparable to their male counterparts. Deepika reportedly demanded a similar fee for her role in Kalki, and the producers agreed due to the importance of her character in that film. However, in the case of Spirit, the team felt that Deepika’s presence wasn’t essential, and hence opted for Tripti Dimri, ultimately saving a considerable amount.
KTR Receives ACB Notice in Formula E Case, Cites Political Vendetta
Former Telangana IT Minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has officially confirmed that he has received a notice from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Formula E event scam. While the allegations have been looming over him for the past few months, this is the first time KTR has acknowledged receiving a formal notice.
Taking to Twitter, KTR stated that the ACB has asked him to appear for an inquiry on the 28th of May. He maintained that he would fully cooperate with the investigative agencies, despite describing the case as “nothing but pure political harassment.”
However, KTR also informed that he would not be able to attend the inquiry on the specified date due to his pre-scheduled international travel plans to the UK and USA, where he is set to participate in multiple events. He mentioned that he has already communicated this to the ACB in writing and assured that he would appear for the investigation immediately upon his return.
In a sharp political swipe, KTR hinted at foul play and accused Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of orchestrating a political vendetta. “I must appreciate Revanth Reddy’s thirst for political vendetta and his ability to swing in any direction, regardless of scruples, to achieve his goals,” KTR remarked.
With the former minister now officially under the scanner, all eyes are on the next steps the ACB will take in the Formula E probe.
