In a significant move to intensify India’s global outreach against terrorism, an all-party parliamentary delegation led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha held a series of high-level meetings with top Japanese leaders in Tokyo on Thursday. The visit marks the launch of Operation Sindoor, an unprecedented diplomatic initiative to expose and counter Pakistan’s continued role in cross-border terrorism following the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
The delegation comprises representatives from across the political spectrum, including BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi and Brij Lal, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member John Barittas, and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid — reflecting a unified national stance on counterterrorism.
During their Tokyo engagement, the delegation held substantive discussions with Mr. Takashi Endo, Chairman of the Japanese House of Representatives Committee on National Security. The Indian delegation articulated the country’s firm and consistent position against terrorism in all its forms and urged for deeper international cooperation. Mr. Endo conveyed Japan’s unwavering solidarity with India in combating terrorism and maintaining regional peace.
Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Takeshi Iwaya welcomed the delegation and reiterated Tokyo’s support for India’s measured and responsible response to recent provocations. He stressed the need for global action to bring perpetrators of terrorism to justice and endorsed India’s right to defend its citizens against cross-border threats.
“Reiterated our national resolve to act firmly against terror and those who support it. Grateful for Japan’s support and for calling for justice against perpetrators of such acts,” said Mr. Sanjay Jha in a post on X. Mr. Jha also honored Minister Iwaya with a traditional Mithila felicitation during the meeting.
The delegation later called on former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, currently Vice President of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Chairman of the Japan-India Association. Mr. Suga reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting India’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and strengthen regional security.
In an extended outreach, the Indian MPs engaged with leading Japanese think tanks and policy analysts, presenting comprehensive evidence of Pakistan’s support for terror outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The session highlighted India’s zero-tolerance policy and received strong endorsements for India’s approach to countering state-sponsored terrorism.
“This dialogue strengthens global partnerships rooted in peace, security, and shared democratic values,” Mr. Jha stated.
The delegation was welcomed earlier in the day by Indian Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Sibi George, who briefed them on the strategic roadmap for India-Japan engagements spanning political, diplomatic, and civil society dimensions.
This mission is part of a broader Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)-led initiative comprising seven high-level delegations, including 59 Members of Parliament, former ministers, diplomats, and political leaders visiting 33 countries between May 21 and June 5. While Mr. Jha’s delegation focuses on East and Southeast Asia, other teams led by MPs Shrikant Shinde and Kanimozhi are visiting the Middle East, Africa, and Europe to build global consensus and diplomatically isolate Pakistan.
Operation Sindoor stands as one of India’s most comprehensive and united diplomatic efforts to hold state sponsors of terrorism accountable and reinforce the international security framework against extremist threats.
