Premieres Cancelled : Expect the Unexpected
Jagapathi Babu’s Patel Sir has received a major set back even before its domestic release as the film’s premieres in the US were cancelled on Thursday night there. While the exact reasons are not known, it is learnt that technical glitches and error in content have pushed the exhibitors in the US to cancel the premieres.
This ‘unexpected’ technical glitch said to have costed huge to producer Sai Korrapati who is releasing the film on his own in the US. The cancellation of premiers of Patel Sir has helped Sundeep-Nara Rohit’s Shamantakamani and also Nani-starrer Ninnu Kori.
With poor reviews and bad word of mouth for Patel Sir, the film’s revenue in overseas is expected to took a strong beating.
How Nani Emerged as King of US BO?
Superstar Mahesh Babu has held the title of ‘Undisputed King of US box office’ for so long. It seems that the star hero has ultimately lost it or is on the verge of losing it to Natural Star Nani, who has been on an unbelievable streak.
With ‘Ninnu Kori’ comfortably crossing the USD 1 Million mark, Nani now has 4 movies in this elite club (Eega, Bhale Bhale Magadovoyi and Nenu Local were first three). In comparison, Pawan Kalyan (3), Allu Arjun (3), Prabhas (2), Ram Charan (just 1) and Nagarjuna (2) are far behind him.
Nani has now equaled NTR who also has 4 (Baadshah, Temper, Nannaku Prematho and Janatha Garage). Mahesh still is at the top with 6 movies (Dookudu, SVSC, 1 Nenokkadine, Aagadu, Srimanthudu and Brahmotsavam) in million dollar club. Considering Nani’s pace and consistency, it won’t take long for him to surpass Mahesh in terms of million dollar films in US.
Now, if you are a distributor, who would you invest on? At least USD 2.5M should be shelled to grab the rights of Mahesh’s film and in case of a failure like Brahmotsavam, the damage will be huge. On the other hand, one can escape with minor losses even in the worst scenario with a Nani’s film. If a money spinner like BBM happens, the profits will be huge. Nani’s films have proved to be safe-to-profitable in USA.
US audiences seek freshness in films and they hardly bother about commercial formula, the success of Ninnu Kori is a fine example. Nani has understood their tastes and is serving what they need. It is not an overstatement to call him the ‘king of US box office’.
Ayyanna Lands Naidu In Deep Trouble!
The evidences submitted by Andhra Pradesh minister for roads and buildings Ch Ayyanna Patrudu to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on sensational Visakhapatnam land scam, created ripples in the Telugu Desam Party.
Ayyanna on Friday submitted certain documents to the SIT showing how several influential land grabbers had fraudulently prepared forged documents and mortgaged the same to various public sector banks to raise over Rs 190 crore.
He said as per the information he had, over 1,700 acres had been encroached in the district.
“I will meet the SIT officials again on July 19 to submit some more documents on the land scams,” he added.
Sources said most of those against whom Ayyanna had lodged a complaint with the SIT were closer to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and higher education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.
“If Ayyanna insist on a probe against them, Naidu would be in big trouble,” sourecs said.
Ayyanna said he had complete faith in the SIT investigation and criticised YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for finding fault with the SIT investigation.
“The Leader of Opposition had termed the CBI as the Congress Bureau of Investigation when the agency started investigating into his illegal assets and now he wants the same CBI to inquire into the lands scam,” he said.
Film bigwigs take advantage of KTR’s intimacy?
Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s son and IT minister K T Rama Rao is often considered in the political circles as de facto chief minister, as he takes care of most of the official meetings in the absence of his father and attends every review meeting.The Telangana Rashtra Samithi rank and file consider him as the heir apparent of KCR.
Well, KTR himself does not behave like a de facto chief minister but tries to maintain good relations with all big people, whether they are from film industry, big business houses, sports or even the media.
He might not be accessible so easily to common people or media persons, but he is in regular touch with his friends in every sector on phone, WhatsApp, twitter and Facebook.
He has quite a few friends in Telugu film industry with whom KTR regularly speaks, attends their functions and participates in their celebrations.
This has given a sort of lenience to bigwigs in the film industry, who indulge in all sorts of activities and behave highhandedly with anybody who question them, obviously taking advantage of their intimacy with KTR.
It is learnt some top film personalities, who were found to have connections with drug peddlers, are learnt to have threaten the police officials with dire consequences if their names come out. They are learnt to have taken the name of KTR while threatening the cops.
It is better KTR wakes up before these big people in the Telugu film industry do not spoil his name and that of the Telangana state.
Ex-NASA Scientist Arrested in Hyd Drug Racket
The prohibition and excise sleuths have reportedly arrested a former NASA scientist in Hyderabad on ‘Drug peddling’ charges.
Anish Dundoo, 29, is an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School in Dehradun, where children of Central Ministers and other VVIPs study. He pursued Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical engineering from University of Cincinnati, US. He worked with NASA for a year before moving to Hyderabad in 2012 to start his own businesses.
The investigating officials said that Anish is currently into Bitcoin trading and other ventures, and that he had been purchasing drugs on the Darknet by paying through Bitcoins. ‘Highly qualified people like Anish indulging in narcotics peddling is a big shame,’ said an investigating officer.
Based on the cell phone data records of the 10 narcotic peddlers arrested in the past few weeks, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested Anish. During the arrest, sleuths seized 16 LSD blots and 1.2 kilo cannabis from his office in Secunderabad.
Kamal Haasan Gets Notice For Revealing Actress Name
Kamal Haasan has now been issued a notice in related to the prominent Malayalam actress’ ‘abduction and molestation’ case. Noted Malayalam hero Dileep has already been arrested for his alleged involvement in this case.
Kamal was served notice on Friday by the National Council for Women (NCW) for revealing the actress’ name in a recent media interaction.
Reportedly, Kamal took the name of the heroine, who was the victim of ‘sexual assault’ and said that media should not hide her name especially after she had come out in open and filed a case against her wrongdoers. He extended his full support to her and demanded severe punishment to her assaulters.
The NCW however wasn’t pleased with Kamal’s point and issued a notice to him reasoning that revealing the name of a victim of “sexual assault” is prohibited by the Indian law.
In response, Kamal said, “You are penalizing the lawyer and missing criminals”.
Taapsee Seeks Apology for Comments on KRR
Actress Taapsee Pannu has sought an apology for her recently made controversial comments on veteran Tollywood director, K. Raghavendra Rao.
It may be recalled that speaking at an event, Taapsee allegedly made fun of Raghavendra Rao’s obsession with throwing fruits and flowers at heroines’ mid-riffs. Her comments have kicked up a storm among Telugu film lovers and film fraternity. She soon started receiving hate messages, and criticism poured in for making such derogatory comments on the director and the film industry which launched her.
Taapsee has now sought an apology from whoever that has got hurt because of her comments. ‘I didn’t intend to hurt anyone. I was just trying to make fun of myself, how I was clueless about the happenings around me in film industry etc. If hurt anyone in the process,I apologize,’ she said.
‘Raghavendra Rao garu is the reason why I am here today, and I can never forget that. It’s strange that some people have taken my comments in a way that I have insulted him, but I haven’t,’ Taapsee said.

Ex Lovers Get Mixed Reviews!
Former love birds Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s latest offering “Jagga Jasoos” has been drawing attention given that it is probably the couple’s last film together – since they broke up during the film’s shoot. Also the fact that the film’s auteur had previously delivered India’s official entry for Oscar Nomination and honest-to-goodness “Barfi!” (2012) with same Ranbir himself, many have been looking up to the film despite that it was long delayed.
Finally, the film has hit the screens yesterday and it opened to mixed reviews from all corners. Although the film has had its captive moments, exotic locations, Tintin-inspired adventures, impressive production values, terrific cast with pretty good performances, but what Basu forgets to offer us was – complete story.
The film is a musical, a genre that has not really been experimented in mainstream Bollywood. Basu gets full marks here for trying something ‘different’. Ranbir and Katrina did shine in this Basu’s escapade. On the whole, the film offers a mixed feeling.
Technically, the film is sound. Ravi Varman’s cinematography gives us picturesque landscape. However, VFX could have been better. Colour in some scenes put us off. Kat turns master storyteller and it is her narration that look fresh holding her teacher act. The second-half is all about how Jagga (Ranbir) and Shruti (Katrina) find Jagga’s father who’s called Badal Bagchi. The film is one-time watchable. Watch it for Basu, Ranbir and Katrina.
‘Roja Drinks Half Bottle Daily’
Strongly responding to YSRCP MLA Roja’s comments against the TDP government and its cabinet, Minister Ayyannapatrudu has lashed out at Roja. Condemning Roja’s severe remarks on the state cabinet in which she alleged that they are ‘drinking and taking decisions’ and ‘promoting liquor’, Ayyannapatrudu alleged that Roja drinks half bottle of liquor daily and stated that she won’t get sleep if she didn’t drink the half-bottle.
Calling her as ‘iron-leg’, Ayyannapatrudu said that TDP came into power only after she left the party. He said that YS Jagan would be behind the bars if Roja continues in YSR Congress Party.
Meanwhile, Industries Minister Amarnath Reddy too breathed fire on Roja’s comments. He asked Roja to ‘quit drinking liquor first’ before ‘preaching’. Looks like, the issue is now turning into a major political strom as both TDP and YSRCP leaders are waging war against each other.
It all began after Excise Minister allegedly stated that ‘Beer was a health drink’ that he later clarified that he was quoted so from the out of context.
Drugs Case: Akun Sabharwal Cancels His Leave
Akun Sabharwal, the IPS officer who is heading the SIT that is probing the scandalous drugs case, has cancelled his leave and will continue the investigation.
On Friday, Sabharwal shocked everyone by revealing his plans of going on a 10-day holiday, from 17th to 27th of this month, the exact period when the celebs were asked to come for interrogation. Rumors erupted in no time that businessmen and film celebs who have allegedly involved in the drug scandal, have put pressure on him through the state govt. It was speculated wildly that govt. was trying to dilute the case and shield the big names who are involved in it.
Although Sabharwal denied to having any sort of pressure from the govt. he was reportedly caught telling different reasons for his leave during his interaction to different channels. These varying versions of the officer made everyone suspect that he was being forced by the govt. to leave the case and go on a holiday.
In the wake of the allegations and doubts from media as well as people, who have been closely following the developments in this case, Sabharwal has cancelled his leave. The case has been garnering more attention with these dramatic turn of events.
The questioning of film celebs, who had been served notices, will commence from July 19.
