Struggling Hero Changed His Name

Share

Young Telugu film hero Aadi forayed into Tollywood as the heir of Saikumar. Five years after his debut, amidst a streak of flops, the actor has now opted for a name change.

Although Aadi’s first two films performed decently, he has delivered only flops ever since. The young actor will be next seen in July 14 release, Samanthakamani. From this film onwards, his name in title credits will not be displayed as Aadi but ‘Aadi Saikumar’. The actor himself has confirmed opting for a name change.

Before you jump into conclusion that he may have decided to add his ‘famous’ father’s name beside his in order to gain popularity across Southern film industries or in his bid not to get confused with the likes of Aadi Pinisetty, Hyper Aadi etc., here is the reason divulged by the actor.

‘Sriram Aditya, director of Samanthakamani used to tease me saying that my name was the shortest among all the actors of our film. Then I suggested him to add my father’s name to my name. ‘Aadi Saikumar’, I liked this new name and hence decided to keep my father’s name beside mine,’ Aadi revealed.

The young hero is hopeful of returning to success with Samanthakamani.

Shamanthakamani Movie Review – 2.75/5

Share

Four actors teamed up for Sriram Adittya’s crime comedy Shamanthakamani that is based on a car theft. It has an interesting plot, but fails to engage the viewers with interesting screenplay. It offers occasional laughs, but disappoints on a whole.

Story :

Shamantakamani, an expensive Rolls Royce car worth Rs. 5 crore is stolen at a party. Krishna (Sudheer Babu) files a complaint with the police and CI Ranjith (Rohit) is assigned with the job of finding the missing car. In his investigation Ranjith finds three people as the prime suspects. A jobless, uneducated youth Shiva (Sundeep Kishan), a carefree guy Karthik (Aadi) and a mechanic (Rajendra Prasad) all are somehow connected to the car, but claim innocent. How does Ranjith solve the crime and who is behind the car theft?

Performances:

Nara Rohith is his usual self in the police character. He has done many cop characters in his career and is at ease as a corrupt police. Sudheer Babu’s character is emotional and he is good. Sundeep Kishan did well and leaves a mark despite less screen time. Aadi is also fine as the frustrated lover. Rajendra Prasad and Suman are adequate in their roles. Indraja and Chandini are okay in their limited roles.

Technicalities:

Sriram Adittya’s stylish taking makes it look like an expensive film despite the low budget. Director has good grip over technical elements but fails in writing an engaging script. Poorly written screenplay is its biggest drawback.

Mani Sharma’s soundtrack is ordinary but the background score is impressive. Cinematography is also impressive and editing stands out among the technical departments. Production values are decent.

Thumbs Up:

  • Four Heroes
  • Fairly decent second half
  • Climax

Thumbs Down:

  • Uninteresting screenplay
  • First half

Analysis:

It is easy to grab people’s attention with four actors playing the lead characters. But to write an engaging screenplay by giving equal importance to all the characters is not that easy. Sriram Adittya clearly struggled to come up with an engaging screenplay.

He took so much time to introduce all the characters and establish a motive for them to take up crime. We cannot root for any of the characters including Sudheer’s who has an emotional back story. Director takes his own sweet time to get to the point of crime.

Car is stolen at the intermission point which is a perfect setting for engaging second half. Interrogation process seems interesting but none of the perspective stories of Rajendra Prasad, Sundeep and Aadi makes an impact after knowing them. Only point that hooks is the suspense about who has stolen the car.

Final reveal is cliched sans logic, but the finishing to all the characters is entertaining. Except for the ending Shamanthakamani doesn’t give a satisfactory feeling at any point of time. It is a very lame script with good setting and casting. Films like these have limited appeal and it will be hard to please the genre fans with such lackluster script.

Verdict: Bumpy Ride.

India Among World’s Laziest Countries

Share

A recent study conducted by Stanford University has placed India among the laziest countries in the world.

Stanford University researchers used step-counters installed in smartphones to track the walking activity of around 700,000 people in 46 countries, India was ranked 39th. As per the study, Indians averaged 4,297 steps a day whereas the Top ranked Chinese averaged 6,880 steps a day.

With 4,774 steps on an average, the Americans also fared better than Indians. The laziest country according to the study was Indonesia, where people averaged just 3,513 steps a day.

Netizens in India have ridiculed this survey. ‘When 70% Indians live in villages, how can the survey done just in metros be valid for the entire country,’ asked one. ‘If the survey had been done in villages, India would have ranked No.1 with huge margin,’ said another Indian.

Irrespective of this survey, given a choice to walk or drive, people of this generation are preferring to drive no matter what the distance is. Considering the growing health issues, this mentality has to be changed.

Subba Raju Shocks With Drugs Notices

Share

Generally, celebs don’t choose to respond, keep their phones off and stay away from media when accusations like ‘consuming drugs’ surface against them. But here is the first actor to respond about the ongoing drug menace that is shaking Telugu Film Industry.

Actor Subba Raju who is pretty close to director Puri Jagan and hero Raviteja spoke to media briefly about receiving the notices. “I didn’t understand why I got these notices? I’m always health conscious and shocked why I got notices in this drugs menace. But I’m asked to attend for an inquiry and I’m ready to go” said Subba Raju, confirming about the notices.

He further stated that he’s not either a consumer of drugs or never met the so-called drug peddler Kelvin. “It’s a shock for me with news reports coming that my number is in Kevin’s (drug peddler) call list” he added.

“I will respect the system and support the police department to get the truth out. On 21st I’m requested to attend the investigation and I’m ready to go. Honesty prevails”, he says, exuding confidence.

Had Subba Raju made any moves to bring the whole thing to the notice of Movie Artists Association? “I informed MAA that I got notice, but even me or they didn’t know why I got a notice,” he said.

“Being a vegetarian, I drink only wine occasionally. And I’m also shocked as to why all those other celebs who are close to me got the notices as in reality no one is not into this drugs thing” Subbaraju stresses.

As I have interacted with this firm, authorities may have thought I am too involved in this. It is a general notice asking me to come for questioning, and i am sure that my name will be cleared once I answer their questions. In the meanwhile, please don’t sensationalize my name in connection with drugs’.

Reports are coming that a pub, in which Navdeep allegedly has a major stake, is the hub of drug trade in the city, and that he frequently arranges booze-filled parties to Tollywood celebs. The actor however denied all this.

On the other hand, Nandu denied having received any Notice. He further said that he was ready for blood test on any platform and that he would even voluntarily offer his call and Whatsapp records to police to check if he had ever contacted the drug peddlers.

‘In the past, the director of one of my films was arrested in drugs case, and then also my name cropped up. The authorities however cleared my name then after an inquiry. I am sure that my name has surfaced this time because of that incident. I want to make it clear that I have neither used drugs nor received any notice. I have come from a decent Brahmin family and I am ready for blood test to prove my innocence,’ he reiterated.

Shock: Audience Walk Out of AR Rahman’s Concert

A section of audiences have reportedly walked out of Oscar-award winning musician AR Rahman’s concert in UK’s Wembley recently. Considering that Rahman is a flawless composer and have entertained people of all walks of life across the globe, the incident has come as a shocker to many ARR’s fans. Going into details, Rahman’s concert was held on July 8 at SSE Arena, Wembley in London . Rahman had sung “most of Tamil songs” and that said to had not gone well with the Hindi-speaking audiences.

The Hindi-speaking crowd then walked out of the concert midway accusing that “most of the songs in the concert were in Tamil”. This is not all. The disappointed Hindi-speaking audiences are now reportedly ‘demanding’ a refund because they were made to sit through ‘Tamil songs’ that they could not ‘understand’. Many took to Twitter to express their angst, displeasure over Rahman’s concert.

While a section claims that the concert was titled as ‘Netru, Indru, Naalai’, the Hindi-speakers allege (through Twitter) that they were ‘cheated’ by the ‘false advertising’ and only 1 percent of the songs Rahman sung in the concert were Hindi.

TCS Shutting Down Operations in Capital

Meanwhile, employees working at the company’s Lucknow office have reportedly written to the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Information and technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, seeking their intervention in the matter.

At present, TCS’s Lucknow office has 1700 employees and 500 support staff, who all will be jobless if the office gets shut down.

U.S. Judge Grants Bid To Narrow Trump Travel Ban

Share

A U.S. judge on Thursday granted the state of Hawaii’s bid to exempt grandparents and other relatives from President Donald Trump’s temporary travel ban on residents from six Muslim-majority countries and refugees.

U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson in Honolulu had been asked to narrowly interpret a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that revived parts of Mr. Trump’s March 6 executive order banning people from those countries for 90 days. Judge Watson on Thursday declined to put on hold his ruling exempting grandparents from the ban.

A Justice Department representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month let the ban on travel from the six countries go forward with a limited scope, saying it could not apply to anyone with a credible “bona fide relationship” with a U.S. person or entity.

The Trump administration then decided that spouses, parents, children, fiancşs and siblings would be exempt from the ban, while grandparents and other family members traveling from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen would be barred.

The Trump administration also said that all refugees without a close family tie would be blocked from the country for four months.

Mr. Trump said the measure was necessary to prevent attacks. However, opponents including states and refugee advocacy groups, sued to stop it, disputing its security rationale and saying it discriminated against Muslims.

Hawaii’s attorney general Douglas Chin asked Judge Watson to issue an injunction allowing grandparents and other family members to travel to the United States. Hawaii and refugee groups argue that resettlement agencies have a “bona fide” relationship with the refugees they help, sometimes over the course of years.

The Justice Department said its rules were properly grounded in immigration law.

In his ruling, Judge Watson said the government had an “unduly restrictive reading” of what constituted a close family relationship.

The roll-out of the narrowed version of the ban was more subdued than in January, when Mr. Trump first signed a more expansive version of the order. That sparked protests and chaos at airports around the country and the world.
