Critics Tear Apart Magadheera’s Freemake

Share

Bollywood film Raabta, Magadheera’s freemake… err.. not anymore a freemake as just one day before the release, the Bollywood filmmakers had an out of the court settlement with Allu Aravind, has received enough publicity by entangling in a plagiarism controversy with Geetha Arts.

Free of plagiarism allegations, the Sushant Singh Rajput and Krit Sanon starrer finally hit screens today, and unfortunately, it may head in complete opposite direction to Magadheera’s. While the Telugu film was an industry ht, Raabta may turn out to be one of the biggest disasters of this year, going by the terrible word of mouth.

Raabta has received scathing reviews from all major Bollywood critics. The word of mouth on social media also is not encouraging. Despite the film charmed with its reincarnation theme and good-looking leads, the incoherent screenplay, utterly rubbish dialogues and confused story line have reportedly tested the patience of viewers.

To summarize the reviews, everything is a drawback in Raabta except the crackling chemistry shared by Sushant and Kriti, who are rumored to be in a real relationship.

Naga Chaitanya Pledges To Save Producers

Share

Have a look at the flop films at Telugu box office in the recent times and immediately you can figure out one thing. It’s the remunerations that is bending the back of producer but not the actual production cost.

In a film that’s made with 50+ crores budget, often 25 crores is catering to remunerations only. Even a two-crore budgeted small film is catering around 50-70 lakhs to remunerations as they have to pick some talented character artists. This is no wrong, but actually, with remunerations becoming huge chunk, any slight loss is making producers not being able to make another film soon. Otherwise, if films are made at half the budgets what are being put now, producers could sell them easily, get profits and share to key actors. That way they could make more films too.

Talking about the same, Naga Chaitanya hinted that Telugu heroes especially should work in Bollywood formula. “From a long time, Bollywood heroes are taking a share in profits rather taking huge fee in advance. Even Telugu heroes should do the same to save the producers. I’m ready to work on those lines” said Chaitanya, indicating that the future of Tollywood payment mechanism will change for sure. Already the likes of Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun and Jr NTR have started this profit-sharing exercise if our sources are to be believed.

“Being son a producer, as his father runs very own Annapurna Studios, Naga Chaitanya could understand all the financial logics easily. But other heroes don’t budge and they take part in shooting only with full payment paid” commented a senior most film industry person.

Hope other star heroes do understand the situation of producers and start this profit-sharing thing.

Roja Brings Devansh In Water Leak Issue

Share

The very loquacious YCP legislator Roja, who never leaves an opportunity to criticize AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, has now used even Devansh, Babu’s grandson to take digs at him.

Talking about the issue of water leak in the chamber of YCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy in the Assembly at Velagapudi, Roja said that TDP govt. is hatching a conspiracy against her party chief and that water leak was a pre-planned scheme by the TDP leadership.

“TDP leaders are blaming Jagan for every issue of AP. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they accuse Jagan if Devansh cries tomorrow. They may say that the CM”s grandson cried only because Jagan had pinched him,” alleged Roja.

Being the verbose leader of opposition party, it is understandable on Roja’s part to take potshots at the CM and his leadership but dragging Devansh into this political game is going too far, said a TDP leader.

Rajinikanth’s Kaala In Dispute Over Title

Share

Chennai-based producer K Rajashekaran filed a petition against the makers of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Kaala Karikaalan alleging that the “title, knot and story of Karikaalan absolutely belonged” to his company GSR Vinmeen Creations, reports news agency PTI.

A city court on Friday issued a notice asking Rajinikanth, the makers of Kaala Karikaalan and the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce to submit their replies by June 15, reports PTI.

K Rajashekaran, owner of GSR Vinmeen Creations, said that the title ‘Karikaalan’ was already registered by him with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.

He’s accused the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce of misusing the rules by not renewing his title registration to ‘favour some influential persons and disfavouring indigent persons,’ reports PTI.

Mr Rajashekaran said in his petition that he intended to make a film on Chola emperor Karikalan and that he had narrated the story to Rajinikanth Fans Association leader Sathyanarayana.

Mr Rajashekaran also said that another dispute over the film’s title was pending in the city civil court. Therefore, the producers are using the name illegally, reports PTI. Mr Rajashekaran sought an interim injunction restraining the makers to shoot the film.

Kaala Karikaalan is produced by Wonderbar Films and directed by Pa Ranjith (helmer of Rajinikanth’s Kabali).

Rajinikanth completed the first schedule of Kaala Karikaalan in Mumbai on May 7 and returned to Chennai on Thursday. Kaala

Karikaalan features actress Huma Qureshi opposite Rajinikanth. Nana Patekar has been roped in for the antagonist’s role.

Pic: Amy poses for PETA to promote vegetarianism

Actress Amy Jackson has appeared in a new campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to promote vegetarianism.

In the poster, the 25-year-old actress can be seen dressed in plastic wrap and impaled by a metal hook to perhaps suggest the violent bloodshed of the animals that occurs to obtain meat for consumption purposes.

The tagline for the ad reads, “Hooked on Meat? Go Vegetarian.”

The ad, which is being released in advance of World Meat Free Day (June 12), was shot by top photographer Abhay Singh.

Talking about the idea behind the campaign, Jackson says, “(M)eat products can cause cancer, heart disease, obesity. So for cutting all of that out… it’s just a no-brainer that we’re going to be a lot healthier,” says Jackson.

The “Freaky Ali” actress has joined the list of personalities who have teamed up with PETA, such as Lara Dutta, Shahid Kapoor, Esha Gupta, Hema Malini, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Amrita Rao, R Madhavan, Murali Kartik and Rahul Sharma.

On going vegetarian, the actress explains, “(M)y skin’s got a lot clearer. I’ve noticed a change in my body. I’ve noticed a change in my metabolism. So I feel a lot healthier, a lot lighter, with a lot more energy also.”

Ami Thumi Movie Review – 2.75/5

Share

Mohana Krishna Indraganti’s last film Gentleman was a decent hit. The bankable director has shift genres again after making a suspense drama. This time he tried his hand at quirky comedy Ami Thumi that relies on ‘comedy of errors’.

Story :

Janardhan (Tanikella Bharani) is against the love choices of his kids Deepika (Eesha) and Vijay (Avasarala). Deepika is in love with Ananth (Sesh) and Vijay wants to marry Maya (Aditi). But Janardhan wants to get a rich boy as his son in law. Sri Chilipi (Vennela Kishore) comes to see Deepika, but he gets sidelined before he could meet her. That is the beginning of the comedy of errors.

Performances:

Adivi Sesh and Srinivas Avasarala have limited space in spite of being the lead men. They were okay in their respective roles. Eesha is alright but Aditi is annoying. Her cute girl act has gone wrong. Vennela Kishore is the scene stealer with his impeccable comedy timing. He carried the film on his shoulders and single handedly made it a watchable fare. Tanikella Bharani is good but goes overboard at times. The actor who played the maid character did a fine job.

Technicalities:

Mohana Krishna Indraganti has a special knack of creating humor. We can see that in Ashta Chamma that also had loud characters but entertaining on the whole. His style of loud humor is present in Ami Thumi too. However, the story is too simple and wafer thin to cover up the flaws. Director took a lot of time to get things on track. First half is a mess, but the second half is smooth.

Mani Sharma’s music is passable. PG Vinda’s cinematography is adequate. Editing is alright. The film is made on a low budget and there’s not much to boast about the technical finesse and production values.

Thumbs Up:

  • Vennela Kishore’s comedy
  • Dialogues

Thumbs Down:

  • Messy first hour
  • Loud humor
  • Aditi’s performance

Analysis:

Ami Thumi is a comedy based upon mistaken identity. The concept is not new to us as we have seen ample comedies with similar theme. Director Mohanakrishna almost messed it up with a very bad beginning and a messy first hour. The film has almost overcome its weaknesses towards the intermission point, thanks to Vennela Kishore.

First few minutes of the film is nearly unbearable with unending conversations and nonsensical scenes. Every character seems over the top and tests our patience until Vennela Kishore takes the driving seat. The scene between Eesha and Kishore sets up the tone for the comedy of errors and from then on it is a smooth ride.

Pre interval sequence is the major highlight of the film. It seems like Mohana Krishna also realized that Vennela Kishore character is the trump card that he has totally sidelined the lead characters. Adivi Sesh makes special appearances here and there and Avasarala Srinivas is restricted to a couple of scenes.

Total plot runs on Vennela Kishore. Second half runs on a single note without any fuss. Climax is decent despite the predictability factor. Indraganti Mohana Krishna didn’t have strong script on hands. He has totally relied upon the characters to create fun. Most of the jokes misfired due to bad timing. Overdose of dialogue also didn’t help its cause.

Ami Thumi has many minuses, but Vennela Kishore singlehandedly saved it from ending up as a mess. On the whole, Ami Thumi is a passable fare with some laugh out loud moments here and there. Vennela Kishore’s comedy makes it a paisa-vasool affair for the audience. On the box office front, it should be a safe venture for its investors considering the low costs.

Verdict: Time pass

2.0 Leaked Still: Rajini & Amy as Robots

Share

A leaked still from superstar Rajinikanth’s most eagerly awaited VFX extravaganza, ‘2.0’ is currently going viral on social media.

In the pic, both Rajini and Amy Jackson are seen wearing robotic body suits. While Amy is seen driving a truck, Rajini is seen holding it from toppling over. The still looks to be from a key action sequence in the film, which is currently in post-production stage.

Fortunately, not much damage happened since the poor-quality leaked pic doesn’t reveal much information. Makers of ‘2.0’ must be cautious since over Rs 400 crore is invested on this film and they can’t risk any potential leakages, which generally happen during post-production phase.

Even Baahubali couldn’t escape leakage fiasco so this is a wake up call for director Shankar and Lyca Productions. Movie is aiming for January 2018 release.
