Fashion Designer Movie Review – 2/5

Share

It has been very long since veteran filmmaker Vamsy wielded a megaphone. After planning a sequel to Ladies Tailor with Raviteja, Raj Tarun and others, he finally roped in Sumanth Ashwin for the job. It is not an easy affair to fill in the huge shoes of Rajendra Prasad. Understandably Sumanth failed in doing so.

Story :

A small fashion designer Gopalam (Sumanth) wants to open a shop in the nearby town, but he needs money for it. Gopalam hopelessly reaches out to an astrologer and he says that Gopalam has a Manmadha Rekha with which he can seduce any woman. Gopalam wants to use his special powers to win the heart of the richest girl in his village. In the process three rich girls (Anisha, Manasa) fall for Gopalam’s charm. Someone takes photos of Gopalam while he is with them. He needs to solve the problem before it gets out of hands.

Performances:

Sumanth Ashwin is a decent actor who can emote well. However, his skill set is limited to playing certain characters. Sumanth struggled to be that boy next door from a remote village. He couldn’t even get the dialect right. Anisha Ambrose is the pick of the heroines. Not that she is a good performer, but the other two are not so impressive with their looks and acts as well. Krishnudu played an important role. Krishna Bhagavan is the other known face.

Technicalities:

Vamsy has a typical way of dealing with rural comedies. The film bears his stamp all over it, but the magic that is associated with the veteran has gone missing. He could bring back few memories of Ladies Tailor back with the ambience and characters, but couldn’t weave a proper story around it. His trademark style of picturization in songs like Paapi kondallo, Meghale will impress his fans.

Mani Sharma’s music is an asset. A couple of songs are instantly likeable. Background score also is pretty good. Cinematography is beautiful. Scenic beauty of Paapi kondalu is captured superbly by Nagesh Banell. Dialogues are just okay. Proper care should have taken by the editor as the film looks disjointed at times. Production values are decent.

Thumbs Up:

  • Music
  • Locations

Thumbs Down:

  • Story
  • Screenplay
  • Dated style of presentation

Analysis:

One thing is pretty evident that Vamsy is out of form. Making a sequel to Ladies Tailor is a nice idea. In fact it is the right time for anybody to come up with a sequel to Rajendra Prasad’s cult classic. Fans were elated to know that Vamsy himself was doing the honors, but the veteran has let them down big time.

Apart from the idea of making a sequel, Vamsy apparently didn’t have a script on his hands. The script of Fashion Designer is half baked without any proper emotions. First half of the film is passable as it mainly focuses on the encounters of the leading man with three ladies. Shortcomings of the script came to forefront in the second half where Vamsy was left without a clue.

A forced murder scene was created to conclude the messy story. Second half is filled with lot of stupid humor and silly dialogue due to the lack of content. Only saving grace in the film is Mani Sharma’s music and Banell’s camera work. A couple of songs were well shot in typical Vamsy style.

Grave errors like poor script and miscasting didn’t let Fashion Designer to make a positive impression on its viewers. Even diehard fans of Vamsy will be left disappointed with this one. Although it is better than recent duds from the master filmmaker, it is nowhere close to his cinematic gems from the eighties.

Verdict: Outdated!

Racha Director’s Second Attempt

Share

Director Sampath Nandi became a big name in Tollywood after he scored a huge commercial success with his second film, Ram Charan’s ‘Racha’. He followed it up with Ravi Teja’s commercially viable film, ‘Bengal Tiger’. Even though he scored three consecutive hits as a director, his maiden attempt as a producer was a failure.

It is known that Sampath had floated his own banner named Sampath Nandi Creative Works and produced Aadi-starrer ‘Galipatam’ (2014) as his maiden venture. The film had story, screenplay and dialogues penned by Nandi himself. The bold themed film however tanked at box office.

Three years later, Sampath Nandi is all set to bankroll another film. Tilted ‘Paper Boy’, this film is also penned by Sampath himself. His assistant Jaya Shankar will make his directorial debut with this small-budget film starring Santosh Shoban and debutante Aishwarya Vhatkar in lead roles.

With his maiden production venture biting dust at box office, we need to see if this Racha director can bounce back in his second attempt.

Meanwhile, Sampath Nandi is currently busy with the post-production work of his latest directorial, ‘Gautam Nanda’ starring Gopichand, Hansika and Catherine Tresa.

Third Iconic Setup For Mahesh Babu!!

Share

Iconic buildings and Mahesh Babu go hand in hand. If that’s not sounding logical then you have to go back to the days of Okkadu and Arjun, which are directed by talented Gunasekhar and also known for giving biggest break to Mahesh to the biggest flop.

Apparently, the film Okkadu featured a part of Charminar, a minar that was built involving staggering expenditure. And then for Arjun movie, the whole of Madurai Meenakshi temple was built in Hyderabad. Brilliance is that both the sets erected by art director Thota Tarani flaunted absolute real look close to the originals. Later Gunasekhar got a DGP office carved for Sainikudu but that doesn’t fetch both the set and the film any recognition.

The latest buzz is that as the makers of Koratala Siva’s Bharat Anu Nenu are rejected a permission to shoot at Assembly Building of Telangana state (former assembly of United AP), the makers are now erecting a set that looks close to it. With many scenes and sequences involve that assembly premises and frontal view, as Mahesh is playing the role of a Chief Minister, we hear that Koratala decided to go with a set built for the same.

Like the way Okkadu and Arjun are remembered for those iconic setups, will Bharat Anu Nenu get recognition for its Assembly set? Let’s see!!

Fatima Sana Sheikh Bikini Photos

Fatima Sana Shaikh, a lady who failed in several auditions to bag even a supporting role, has become a Bollywood sensation after she played the second lead role to Aamir Khan in ‘Dangal’.

In the wrestling drama, she played a de-glam role, was mostly seen in sports attires. To those who have become fans of her authoritative screen presence in Dangal, here is another reason to adore her even more.

Two Interesting Films On Gandhi Politics

Share

During the time of Congress ruling in India couple of years earlier, there came a movie titled “Madras Cafe”. Without taking any names, or using any related titles, the film narrated the story of how LTTE members have sketched the assassination plot of Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi. The film was a stunner then and the directorial skills of Shoojit Sircar impressed everyone.

Treading in similar lines, two more films are now coming up, which talk about the Gandhi politics now. First, we have to talk about the film “Indu Sarkar” being directed by National Award Winning director Madhur Bhandarkar. The film is set during the period of Emergency in India, 1975 to 1977 and no doubt it deals with Indira Gandhi and her actions.

The second film that targeted another Gandhian rule is “The Accidental Prime Minister” being directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte. This happens to be the story of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and definitely, the title itself suggests how much of Sonia Gandhi dynamics will be portrayed in the movie.

While Indu Sarkar is set for July 28th, The Accidental Prime Minister will hit cinemas in December 2019. The irony is that both these films that deal a lot with Congress ruling in the country are releasing at a time when the party is not in power.

Top Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who was recently crowned as the ‘Hottest Woman of the Year’, is a slayer of hearts and do we need a better proof than this hauntingly sexy picture of hers.

In this pic, Deepika looks jaw-dropping wearing a black lingerie under a black transparent robe. Her long and toned legs, which she always flaunts with authority, sleek hair and red lips are only accentuating her hotness. She is a diva who knows how to strike a pose and slay beauty admirers.

On work front, Deepika will next be seen in the role of Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus “Padmavati”. Post the failure of her debut Hollywood film ‘xXx’, she has yet to sign her next assignment.

Rambabu Trailer : Runs on Sunil’s Humour

Share

Seconds into the trailer of Ungarala Rambabu, it’s clear that director Kranthi Madhav has totally banked on Sunil’s humour. Almost each and every frame of the trailer has Sunil and yes, it is about his trademark fun.

Kranthi Madhav, who is more known for meaningful and message-oriented films such Onamaalu and Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju, seems to have switched on to the concept of churning out – entertainment, entertainment & entertainment. Yet, Kranthi seems to have balanced it well in right proportions.

And one thing is pretty evident that the entire trailer is very colourful and looking rich with bright palette. Thanks to good technical aspects such as cinematography and DI, without which it would not had been the same. Ghibran’s music, popular cast such as Prakash Raj, Posani, Ungarala Rambabu trailer is promising. Heroine Mia George looks glamorous making the trailer more colourful.

Let’s wait and see whether this film would give the much-needed success to Sunil or not.

Hebbah’s Affair To Promote A Buzz Less Movie

Share

In Bollywood, there are times where ‘rumours’ are hugely written about one particular onscreen couple. And that’s an indication that a film of those two stars is releasing very soon. That’s an old school PR technique which looks like Tollywood has borrowed now.

Just a week before, when the film Andhagadu was to release, it’s hugely rumoured everywhere that both Raj Tarun and Hebbah Patel are seeing each other. Though the two claimed a good friendship, it’s written that they are bonding huge. And now, after the release of Andhagadu, a new rumour erupted in the pages of some daily newspapers.

It’s written that Hebbah Patel has started dating young hero Naga Anvesh, who is not much known to audiences. He debuted with some flop films and now waiting for the release of his film Angel where Hebbah is the main lead. Son of erstwhile producer Sindhoora Poovu Krishna Reddy, this youngster is not popular in film circles either, but now getting attention due to this affair rumour.

Isn’t this a silly technique being done by the PR team to bring attention to the buzz-less movie and its lead pair? Otherwise in what way one has to read this.

After Gang Rape, Woman Travelled In Metro With Dead Infant

Share

In what can be described as one of the most tragic incidents that can happen to a woman and one of the most brutal crime that a person can commit, a woman’s infant was killed before she was gang-raped. This heinous crime happened last Monday. Police arrested 20 year old auto driver and the remaining two are yet to be caught.

A 23-year-old Gurgaon woman was assaulted in the auto rickshaw she had taken late at night. She was going to her parents’ house after having an altercation with her husband. As per her statement given to police, the three men in the auto rickshaw attacked her, and threw her baby onto the road to die when it started crying. She was then gang-raped for four hours before she was dumped on the road.

Later, the young woman returned to pick up her baby lying in the middle of the road and took it to a hospital in Gurgaon. She didn’t believe when the doctors told her baby was dead. Holding the dead baby in her bleeding arms, she traveled on the metro to a hospital in Delhi. She was aghast when the doctors at the second hospital also confirmed her baby’s death.

After the horrific rape and infanticide seizing media attention, a special investigation team has been formed to catch the rapists.

First Look: The Accidental Prime Minister

Share

The first look of veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, a political drama based on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was unveiled this morning. And, it looks quite intriguing and promising.

“To reinvent yourself as an actor is to challenge yourself. Looking forward to portraying #DrManmohanSingh in #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister,” tweeted Kher while unveiling the film’s first look.

The film is an adaptation of Sanjaya Baru’s controversial book “The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh”. The movie is expected to hit screens in December 2018, months before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In fact, the controversial book was released ahead of the 2014 general elections.

The book gained prominence as it was written by Baru, Singh’s media adviser between 2004 and 2008. In his book, Baru has written in detail about how Singh was an alleged puppet in the hands of Sonia Gandhi.

After the first look was unveiled, Kher was wished by several Bollywood celebs on Twitter for taking up such a challenging character.
