Kabali only behind Baahubali in US

Share

rajani

Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest release ‘Kabali’ has shocked the trade pundits by raking in the exceptional moolah at the box office despite negative reviews and mixed word of mouth.

While Baahubali had collected a worldwide gross of 150 cr in its first weekend, Kabali did 200 cr business in the first weekend. Kabali broke almost every record held by Baahubali to set new records in openings. At the moment, Kabali is leading Baahubali in each and every record concerning openings. However, Kabali may not beat Baahubali in full run owing to bad reviews.

While Baahubali has done close to $7 million business in the US, Kabali has already touched the $4 million mark in just a few days. Trade expects that with at least average talk, Kabali could have beaten the Baahubali full run collections. However, Kabali has pushed Srimanthudu back to snatch the 2nd highest south Indian grosser rank in the US.

Pelli Choopulu Movie Review

Share

Story:

Pelli Choopulu is the story of two individuals – Prashanth (Vijay Devarakonda) and Chitra (Ritu Varma) with exactly opposite characters. Chitra has high ambitious in life while Prashanth is lazy bum who just tries to lead life by living on others. They happened to meet for a prospective alliance. Rest of the story is how one influences the other and get together before bringing the inevitable change in their lives.

Performances:

Vijay Devarakonda – The Doodh Kashi guy in Yevade Subrahmanyam is a perfect in the film as a lazy bum. However he had to go a long way in getting his ‘act’ right. Interestingly, he is good when he tries to be himself but appears awkward when he tries to act. There are no difficult emotions, so it is easy for him to sail through. Ritu Varma is a darling in the film and has got so much of screen presence to fit in the straight forward role. In many situations, she outdid the male lead. Nandu is good in the little role he is given while Kaushik who played the friend role is good. Anish Kuruvilla is fine in a small role while Gururaj Manepalli is okay in the significant role he got after a long time. Rest of them are not making much impact.

Technical Performances:

Tharun Bhascker who is famous for a super hit short film, is making his directional debut with this film and he lives up to the reputation in his first attempt with cinema. Pelli Choopulu has got a wafer thin plot but the screenplay and treatment did the trick. More over the performances have got well to connect with the audience. The first half of the film is slow paced as the story is not moving much. Even though every thing is predictable from the start, the proceedings are very freshly presented and embedded with some good comedy. In the second half, the emotions takes over and covers the pace as well.

Vivek Sagar’s Music suits the mood of the film even though it is not exceptional any where. The camera work is good and brings the rich feel to the film. Editing is neat and the dialogues are well written to invoke comedy. Production Values are okay to the film’s range.

Plus Points:

Clean entertainer
Screenplay
Climax
Few hilarious imaginative scenes

Minus Points:

Slow pace
Predictability

Final Say:

Pelli Choopulu is a clean family entertainer which we can sit and enjoy amid the heavy duty films we have in the last few months. A little publicity push will work wonders for the film at the box office. Give it a try!

Michelle Obama draws sharp portrait of Trump, without naming him

Share

michel

First lady Michelle Obama stepped into the presidential election Monday with a forceful, impassioned defense of Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation’s children. She took numerous swipes at Republican Donald Trump, all without mentioning his name.

“This election and every election is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives,” Ms. Obama said on the opening night of the Democratic convention. “There is only one person I trust with that responsibility, only one person I believe is truly qualified to be president of the United States, and that is Hillary Clinton.”

The first lady was among a high-wattage line-up of speakers taking the stage, all but wiping away earlier tumult that had exposed deep tensions between Ms. Clinton supporters and those loyal to her primary opponent Bernie Sanders. While Ms. Obama has often avoided overt politics during her nearly eight years in the White House, her frustration with Trump’s rise was evident. She warned that the White House couldn’t be in the hands of someone with “a thin skin or a tendency to lash out” or someone who tells voters the country can be great again.

“This right now, is the greatest country on earth,” she said.

Mr. Sanders was taking the stage later in the night. He and his team spent much of Monday trying to keep backers from protesting on the convention floor. He sent urgent messages to his backers urging them to avoid protests on the convention floor. The Clinton campaign opened up speaking spots for his supporters. An array of office holders and celebrities hammered home the call for unity, with singer Paul Simon singing his “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as delegates linked arms and swayed to the music.

Former President Bill Clinton smiled and clapped from the audience.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a favourite of liberals and one of the party’s toughest critics of Trump, took the stage and, in tune with the proceedings, exclaimed, “Thank you, Bernie.”“Trump thinks he can win votes by fanning the flames of fear and hatred. By turning neighbor against neighbor. By persuading you that the real problem in America is your fellow Americans people who don’t look like you, or don’t talk like you, or don’t worship like you.”

Ms. Clinton’s campaign hoped the night time line-up would overshadow a tumultuous start to the four-day convention. The release of hacked party emails revealed the Democratic National Committee had favoured Ms. Clinton over Mr. Sanders in the primary, despite vows of neutrality. The uproar led to the forced resignation of party chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

While her ouster was a major victory for Mr. Sanders, it wasn’t enough to ease the frustration of his supporters. Inside the arena, chants of “Bernie” echoed through the arena as the convention opened, and boos could be heard at times when Ms. Clinton’s name was raised. Outside the convention hall, several hundred backers of Mr. Sanders marched down Philadelphia’s sweltering streets with signs carrying messages such as “Never Hillary.”

Campaigning in North Carolina, Mr. Trump seemed to revel in the Democrats’ commotion, telling supporters that Ms. Clinton made a mistake by not choosing a more liberal running mate to appease Mr. Sanders’ base. “Crazy Bernie’s going crazy right now,” he said. But in Philadelphia, Delegates waved “Love Trumps Hate” signs and leapt to their feet as immigration supporters, gay rights advocates, and labor leaders took the stage.

Comedian-turned-Sen. Al Franken, a supporter of Ms. Clinton, and actress Sarah Silverman, a supporter of Mr. Sanders, made a joint appearance to promote party unity.“I am proud to be part of Bernie’s movement,” Silverman said as the crowd roared. “And a vital part of that movement is making absolutely sure Hillary Clinton is our next president of the United States.”Mr. Trump was a frequent target throughout the night, though the jabs were often more mocking than mean. The tone was a sharp contrast to the Republican convention, where the attacks against Ms. Clinton was bitingly personal, including chants of “Lock her up.”

Wasserman Schultz had planned to be among those taking the stage, despite the email hacking controversy. But she stepped aside, bowing to pressure from Democrats who feared the mere sight of her on stage would prompt strong opposition from Sanders’ backers. The outgoing chairwoman did watch the gathering from a private suite at the arena.

Ms. Clinton’s team hoped Wasserman Schultz’s resignation along with an apology from the DNC to Mr. Sanders and his supporters would keep the convention floor calm.Discussions between the two camps prompted Mr. Sanders to send emails and text messages to supporters asking them not to protest.“Our credibility as a movement will be damaged by booing, turning of backs, walking out or other similar displays,” Mr. Sanders wrote.

The party infighting had echoes of last week’s Republican convention, where some major GOP leaders voiced their displeasure with Mr. Trump and others didn’t even show up. Ms. Clinton promised a stark contrast to the GOP gathering, saying she planned to highlight “success stories” and flesh out details of her proposed policies.

Mr. Sanders was a relatively unknown Vermont senator when he decided to challenge for the Democratic nomination. He stunned the Clinton campaign with his broad support among young people and liberals, as well as his online fundraising prowess. But he struggled to appeal to black voters and couldn’t match the former secretary of state’s ties to the Democratic establishment.

The controversy over some 19,000 leaked DNC emails, however, threatened to complicate those plans. The correspondence, posted by WikiLeaks over the weekend, showed top officials at the supposedly neutral DNC favouring Ms. Clinton over Mr. Sanders in the presidential primaries.

Ms. Clinton’s campaign officials blamed the hack, which is now being investigated by the FBI, on Russian military intelligence agencies. The campaign also accused Moscow of trying to meddle in the U.S. election and help Mr. Trump, who has said he might not necessarily defend NATO allies if they are attacked by Russia

The strange world of Pokemon Go

Share

dpll

Love it or loathe it, but you can’t ignore the Pokemon Go game. The smartphone app has already broke several records to be the most successful game in the US. Due to its popularity, the struggling gaming company Nintendo, knows for its ill-fated Wi U has seen incredible surge in its valuation. If all that wasn’t enough, the number of active Pokemon Go users in the US have already surpassed Twitter users. If you think that all of this is crazy, here’s a bunch of Pokemon facts you probably did not know about:

We all know video game currency. In “freemium” mobile games, you can make up for the skills by spending these virtual gold coins. This case is different though. Here, coins based on stupid video game characters, are legally used for transaction. Welcome to Niue, an island country in the South Pacific Ocean that minted Pokemon coins in early 2000. To be precise, the $1 and $10 coins were based on Pokemon characters. No points for guessing that these coins are sought after by the Pikachu gang fans around the world.

Condoms

For obvious reasons, I wasn’t quite sure about the authenticity of this one. Any reasonable person would wonder why would anyone mass produce such product. However, a stroll down the dark corners of the Internet and it turned out to be an actual product. Well, Japan, the country of the rising Sun never fails to surprise me. You can choose to view the detailed images here.

Snow Cone Maker

Japanese people like ice, and they also love Pokemon. As you would have guessed, the mix-up is inevitable. Without further ado, meet the Pokemon ice cone maker. If you think that a Pikachu puking ice would not be a classy sight, worry not. The elegant people of Japan have designed it in such a way that it “subtly” dispenses ice from the other end.

Pokemon Seaweed

Now that you have a popsicle made of ice pooped by Pikachu, how about starting your dinner with some Pokemon soup? ‘Marumiya Pokemon Seaweed Soup Light’ to be precise. When you watch Pokemon cartoons, play Pokemon games, what’s wrong eating those small monsters? For those not in the know, that’s quite normal in the Pokemon universe. Although the product does not look appetizing, I like the idea of seeing all those weird animals in boiling hot soup.

Aircrafts

Not sure, if the gig is still on, but ANA (All Nippon Airways) had at least a couple of Pokemon branded Jumbo Jets (Boing 747-400). That’s way before the insane popularity of the mobile-friendly Pokemon Go game though. These flights flew back in 1998, on domestic routes. And yes, the stewardesses had to don a weird outfit.

Solar plane nears end of trip

The Solar Impulse 2 was on Monday approaching the end of its epic bid to become the first sun-powered airplane to circle the globe without a drop of fuel to promote renewable energy. When the experimental aircraft touches down in Abu Dhabi in the early hours of Tuesday it will cap a remarkable 42,000-km journey across four continents, two oceans and three seas.

With Swiss explorer and project director Bertrand Piccard in the cockpit, the plane is due to land at Al-Bateen Executive Airport in the UAE capital where it launched its tour on March 9, 2015.By 1300 GMT on Monday, Solar Impulse 2 had travelled more than 2,200 km in nearly 38 hours on its final leg, flying over Qatar’s northern tip after crossing the vast Saudi desert.

“Thanks to our lovely #sun, #Si2’s batteries are fully charged,” the Solar Impulse team said on Twitter.“After a turbulent night from extreme high temperatures, the sun rose above a desert of sand dunes above #SaudiArabia,” Mr. Piccard tweeted earlier.Dubbed the “paper plane,” the Solar Impulse 2 is circumnavigating the globe in stages, with 58-year-old Piccard and his compatriot Andre Borschberg taking turns at the controls of the single-seat aircraft.

Final leg

It took off from Cairo on its final leg early on Sunday, having previously crossed Asia, North America, Europe and North Africa.Mr. Borschberg, 63, smashed the record for the longest uninterrupted journey in aviation history with the 8,924-km flight between Nagoya, Japan and Hawaii that lasted nearly 118 hours.“#Si2 is both the 1st airplane of unlimited endurance & the only experimental aircraft allowed to fly over cities!” he tweeted on Monday.

No heavier than a car but with the wingspan of a Boeing 747, the four-engine battery-powered aircraft relies on around 17,000 solar cells embedded in its wings. Its broad wings and light weight make it particularly sensitive to turbulence. The plane has clocked an average speed of 80 km per hour.

Give a missed call. Telangana Irrigation minister T Harish Rao will call back immediately and address the grievances of people in Telangana anytime. The minister will not only respond to the calls from people of his own assembly constituency Siddipet but also from across Telangana. He will attend the phone calls round the clock. If he is busy, Harish will call back after coming out of the meeting.

Party leaders said Harish was the only leader in Telangana available at the door steps to serve people at any level. Some people call the minister to resolve pending cases in police stations and other government offices.

Harish developed the habit of attending phone calls all through day from his active participation in the Telangana movement since early 2000. Interestingly, leaders at village and Mandal level also trusted Harish more when they fell in trouble.

‘Kanche’ beauty Pragya Jaiswal’s debut is a successful one. Soon after the film, the actress was flooded with a lot of offers. One of those was with Manchu hero. She signed a movie with Manchu Manoj, which would be made under T Satya direction. When everyone is happy about the same and are getting ready for the shoot, here is a disappointment that the actress is not going to be a part of the film now.

“We thought all was well and were looking forward to signing her but at last, things turned otherwise. We are now looking for her replacement,” revealed a source close to the production unit. Apparently, Pragya is busy with the shooting of Nagarjuna-starrer ‘Om Namo Venkatesaya’ and the makers of Manoj’s next are now looking for another female lead.
