Naga Chaitanya is currently working on the remake of the Malayalam hit Premam in Telugu. The title under consideration is Majnu, and shooting is going on at a brisk pace. The actor is going to be seen in three avatars in this film, a teenager, a college student, and a middle-aged man.

The shoot is on for the last two stages and the actor has had to put on weight for the role. “After these two schedules are done and dusted, the actor will shoot for the teenage character, for which he will have to look thin and reduce all that weight he has gained,” revealed a source.

Chandu Mondeti is directing this romantic drama. Actresses Shruti Haasan and Anupama Parameswaran have been confirmed as the two female leads and the makers are still on the lookout for the third.

When I’m stressed, I cook for my wife: Jr NTR

Share

Jr.NTR-Latest-Stills-1

This is his first interview in several years but Jr NTR is calm… composed. So when Deccan Chronicle sat down with the star there was a lot to talk about… right from the earliest days to what his stressbusters are and how he spends time with a family he absolutely cherishes. Here’s Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, unplugged… The family man, “I have been a very ‘hyper boy’ right from childhood. And while many liked that trait of mine, my friends didn’t,” says Jr NTR about his childhood days. “And I have always been a homely person. My mother has been a major push for me and she has been the driving force because I started my career when I was just 17, a very young age. But I’m still that innocent person from years ago…, and I think it is the best trait in a human being. I am always happy being that person.”

The actor married Pranathi in 2011 and he describes her as one of the biggest influences in his life. “She has played a vital part in changing me into what I am now. I really do feel special being married to this wonderful woman. She has done a lot for me and she is my anchor after my mum in my house, and that’s the other reason for me to stay at home. I am very cozy at home and I never really feel this need to go out. More importantly, she gives me these suggestions on how women of the present generation want to see lead actors. For my upcoming film, Nannaku Prematho, she really helped me to bring out the best. I totally relate to her in that way. She never forces me to take her suggestions on board, but she will make a few suggestions like, Ila ayithe meeru baguntaru (You would look good this way). She suggests, but doesn’t force. During the early stages of our married life Pranathi did struggle to adjust for a few months. But she is a very strong woman mentally, stronger than me.” “Also, the best gift my wife has given me is my son, Abhay. I wanted a daughter because I was the only kid at home and I wanted a sister. But God has given me a son and I look at him both as a son and a daughter. I sometimes even make him wear a half sari,” says the actor with a smile.

Films and home, “I am a typical Telugu boy dominated by all the qualities of a Hyderabadi, because I was born and brought up here. At home, my mother or Pranathi never talk about the industry or films. But both of them do watch movies; as my mother is an old timer she usually watches old movies. Pranathi, meanwhile, prefers the contemporary ones. “But they never really discuss my films at home and never involve themselves in decisions taken by me. When it comes to taking a decision for us, especially for me or Kalyan anna, my father is a major driving force. When we got into the industry, I still remember his words, he said, ‘jump, die, live… whatever it may be, you do it yourself. You are the best judge of your film. You will have to take the responsibility for the good and bad in your life. Only then will you come out as a strong person.’ So, we always take decisions on our own, whether good or bad.”

His home is also very lively — always filled with friends and family. “It never gets all serious at home simply because there are no serious discussions. I am just there in my place and I am happy there. My house is full of people whenever I am not shooting. My mum has five sisters and four brothers and all of them come to my house and we are all busy talking to each other and spending time. There is not much time to analyse anything about my films or all those rumours in the press.”

The flops, “Definitely. I do feel sad when my films don’t work. But I am not the one who’ll keep thinking about it for months. I like all the films I have done, but people haven’t liked all. I take it as a learning process, otherwise I will not be able to work. I never go into a shell and think about my failures. I am not that kind of a person. If people don’t like a film that means that I haven’t done it properly. So I try to do better in my next film. And I have many friends in the industry who support me always. Be it S.S. Rajamouli, Vinayak, Rajiv Kanakala, Koratala Siva or Vakkantham Vamsi, they are all fantastic friends. Apart from them, my best friend is Kalyan anna. I always believe in them and no one takes me the wrong way. Even when someone cheats me, I don’t take it seriously.”

Just chillin, “Cooking has always been my stressbuster. Whenever I am stressed, I cook a good meal for my wife. Many people don’t know this but I’m actually a great cook. I can cook everything and I cook very well.” Another stressbuster are holidays. “I have taken my family to a lot of places on vacation, but Dubai remains one of our favourites. I shop a lot — a total shopping freak! Recently, we were in London and we are now planning to go somewhere else soon. Now though, whenever I see a toy shop, I stop and think of just buying toys for Abhay. More than for us, we are shopping for his these days.”

On Nannaku Prematho is not only important for Jr NTR because it is his 25th film, but also because he needs a hit desperately. His last hit film was Temper. “We never thought of Nannaku Prematho initially, we want to do some other subject. But while director Sukumar was working on the other subject, his father passed away. Sukumar later narrated this story to me, which was about a wish of a dying father. That’s how the film happened,” says Jr NTR. He reveals that his bearded look was finalised after a lot of trial and error. “There was no intention for us to come up with this bearded look. But once we started doing research globally, we finally decided on this. Initially people scared me as they said that the look was very radical, but I am confident about Sukumar because his films and the protagonist in them are always different.

Want Dictator to do well, Asked about the competition he will face given the other Sankranti releases, he says, “Nowadays most films run only for two weeks. It’s not about how many days they run, but how much money they collect. So producers want to release their films during Sankranti, summer and Dasara. People want to see films during these seasons and there are many instances in the past when many films released during Sankranti. I don’t think that there is anything wrong and I hope all the four films do well at the box-office,” he adds. When asked whether the fans will be divided as two films from the same family are releasing, he says it is not true. “There is no clash between two Nandamuri heroes. I don’t think that there is any clash. I want my film to do well and also for babai’s film to do well,” he says. “There is no enmity between my uncle and I. I have never said anything and neither has Babai… some third persons are making an issue out of it.” Jr NTR also stresses that he is not the heir to the late N.T. Rama Rao. He says, “I am not his heir (varasudu), I am just his grandson and that’s the biggest thing in my life,” he says.

Nannaku Prematho unit working at breakneck speed!

When someone plans a Sankranthi release, he needs to shun slackness. There has to be no place for tardy pace. But, NTR’s Nannaku Prematho unit did exactly that. Though the release date is fast approaching, the film unit went about the work casually and seems to be paying the price for the slowness.

Now, even the censor clearance is getting delayed and the producers are now running against time. Thanks to its own tardy speed, the film unit is now under great stress. The film was to go to the censors on Friday, but the first copy was not ready by Friday. Now, the film can go for censors only on Monday. And, come to think of it, the film’s release date is Wednesday.

When will the censor work be completed and when can they take up the promotional activity? NTR took up this as a very prestigious project and rooted for a Sankranthi release. At one stage, the unit wanted to postpone the release. But, NTR was angry and tweeted that none should ask him about the release date as he is not in the know of the things.

This created quite a stir and the producer was jolted out of his complacency. He speeded up the proceedings and completed the shoot barely a week before the release date. With barely a couple of days to go, the producers are working at breakneck speed.

Please, Please Finish The Yatra!

Now ‘yatras’ of politicians are a great way to reach out to the masses. But this one is taking way too long. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ has been refurbished as ‘Paramarsa Yatra’ in Telangana and continued by his sister, YS Sharmila.

With all due respect to YSR, people of AP are now moaning at the length of the episode which puts a daily soap on television to shame. Since, there is nothing more to prevent a smooth conclusion to the ‘’Odarpu or Paramarsa’ yatra, hopefully YS Jagan will take a decision to end this programme some time soon.

The joke in political circles is that one might actually live to see the day when Amaravathi becomes a reality, but not live to see the conclusion of the ‘Odarpu’ yatra.

This MP Called Power Star A Madcap!!

Who can put Pawan Kalyan to his place? Of course, TRS MP Kavitha can. She called Pawan Kalyan ‘Tikka’Pawan Kalyan. Now Tikka in Telugu means mad. Talking at a campaign meet, Kavitha referred to the reports that Pawan Kalyan could campaign to garner settlers’votes and called him someone who dones makeup for election campaign and says pack-up after the campaign.

“Unlike this Makeup-packup stars, we work among the public all the time and work for their welfare,” she said. She had also said that her father KCR has showed Pawan Kalyan his place and silenced him.

Will Pawan Kalyan face Kavitha’s verbal torrent? Will he join the wordy duel and match comment for comment? Let’s wait and see.

Water Obstructs Naidu’s Amaravati Plans!

amaravathi21452346386

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been facing resistance from unexpected quarters for shifting AP Secretariat from Hyderabad to new capital Amaravati and strangely that is water. It may be recalled that Naidu had fixed a deadline of June 2 this year for officials and employees working in AP Secretariat in Hyderabad to shift to Amaravati.

He promised to built a temporary Secretariat in Amaravati by June for the purpose. However, the workers who started construction of temporary Secretariat in Amaravati are failing to make even an inch of progress with water coming out everywhere wherever they are digging up for construction. The AP government has acquired agriculture lands in 29 villages to build Amaravati. Construction workers who are digging these lands for construction works are shocked to find water just 4 to 5 ft deep from the ground level.

They tried at multiple locations and got the same result. With this, they were forced to stop construction works. However, this has raised serious questions over how huge buildings could be built in Amaravati in future to construct permanent Secretariat, Assembly, HIgh Court, government offices, hotels, malls, flyover, metro rail etc.

On the other hand, AP officials and employees who are averse to move out of Hyderabad and shift to Amaravati by June are overjoyed with the new development as they hope that temporary Secretariat would not be possible in Amaravati by June and they may be asked to work from Hyderabad for few more months till a solution is found for this water problem.

Thaman Putting Pressure On Ram Charan?

Share

The only good aspect in Ram Charan’s last film Bruce Lee was its foot-tapping music scored by S S Thaman. Le Chalo from the movie was a chartbuster but since the movie was so bad his music also didn’t get noticed. But Ram Charan is reportedly appreciative of Thaman’s work.

Since Charan has good opinion about his work, Thaman is reportedly putting pressure on him to use his services for Charan’s next film. Ram Charan is committed to do Surender Reddy’s next movie which is remake of Tamil hit movie “Thani Oruvan.”

The director is said to be in favor of taking the original music directors of “Thani Oruvan” while Thaman is reportedly asking Charan to take him as he understands the pulse of Telugu audiences. Thaman is in need of top starrer movies in Tollywood as all big movies are being bagged by Devi Sri Prasad.

Uncertainty May Affect Nannaku Prematho

With four films lined up for a Sankranthi release, all eyes are undoubtedly on ‘Nannaku Prematho’ which is releasing with maximum expectations.

Needless to say, it is a very important film for NTR and Sukumar. But ‘Dictator’, ‘Epress Raja’ and ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ had confirmed their release dates much earlier and are in the safe zone as regards booking of theaters.

With there being a lot of uncertainty until ‘Nannaku Prematho’ was finally confirmed for Sankranthi, the movie might not get sufficient number of screens to cash in on any positive talk on day one.

There is little chance of theaters screening ‘Dictator’ and ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ to shift immediately to ‘Nannaku Prematho’ and that is assuming that Junior NTR’s film is declared a hit and the other two are not. The vice-versa though is possible.

Comedian-turned-hero Sunil is hoping for some good news in the New Year. His last film released in February last year. Though he gave voice overs for a few films in between, but he has all but disappeared from the public’s mind.

Interestingly, his film Krishnashtami had been completed long back but producer Dil Raju had been waiting for a good date. Now, the film’s audio is releasing on Saturday and they are planning to release the film soon.

Needless to say, his entire career as a lead actor depends on this film directed by Vasu Verma.

Farmers in Guntur district disrupt CRDA meeting

telangana_0_4_0_1

Guntur: Locals in the capital region disrupted the CRDA capital master plan awareness meeting on Wednesday at Guntur over a plan to route the Amaravati expressway and highways through their villages. The Krishnayapalem panchayat passed a resolution refusing to allow the Amaravati expressway from the middle of their village.

CRDA commissioner N. Srikanth, Guntur collector Kantilal Dande, Guntur MP Galla Jayadev and officials tried to pacify the angry farmers but in vain. Arguments broke out between Telugu Desam supporters and angry farmers and the collector stepped in to calm tempers.

The situation became tense when angry farmers shouted slogans against the government after Mr Srikanth and other CRDA officials tried to explain the features of the Amaravati master plan through a power point presentation.
Krishnayapalem villagers led by farmer Karumanchi Anil and others objected to the proposed Amaravati expressway being routed through the village, which they said would lead to demolition of 80 per cent of the houses.

They said that they had voted for the TD and pooled their fertile land but the government is trying to “snatch” their houses. They said the Krishnayapalem panchayat had refused to allow the expressway to run through the middle of the village. They demanded that the government divert the road and warned that they would take back the land if the government fails to fulfil their demand.

‘Guns are our shared responsibility’

Share

TH09-US-OBAMA_1_2688938f

The epidemic of gun violence in our country is a crisis. Gun deaths and injuries constitute one of the greatest threats to public health and to the safety of the American people. Every year, more than 30,000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns. Suicides. Domestic violence. Gang shootouts. Accidents. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have lost brothers and sisters, or buried their own children. We’re the only advanced nation on earth that sees this kind of mass violence with this frequency.

A national crisis like this demands a national response. Reducing gun violence will be hard. It’s clear that common-sense gun reform won’t happen during this Congress. It won’t happen during my presidency. Still, there are steps we can take now to save lives. And all of us — at every level of government, in the private sector and as citizens — have to do our part. We all have a responsibility. Executive action On Tuesday, I announced new steps I am taking within my legal authority to protect the American people and keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people. They include making sure that anybody engaged in the business of selling firearms conducts background checks, expanding access to mental health treatment and improving gun safety technology. These actions won’t prevent every act of violence, or save every life — but if even one life is spared, they will be well worth the effort.

Even as I continue to take every action possible as President, I will also take every action I can as a citizen. I will not campaign for, vote for or support any candidate, even in my own party, who does not support common-sense gun reform. And if the 90 per cent of Americans who do support common-sense gun reforms join me, we will elect the leadership we deserve. All of us have a role to play — including gun owners. The gun industry also needs to do its part. And that starts with manufacturers.

Power of gun lobby Today, the gun industry is almost entirely unaccountable. Thanks to the gun lobby’s decades of efforts, Congress has blocked our consumer products safety experts from being able to require that firearms have even the most basic safety measures. They’ve made it harder for the government’s public health experts to conduct research on gun violence. Ultimately, this is about all of us. We must find the courage and the will to mobilise, organise and do what a strong, sensible country does in response to a crisis like this one.

All of us need to demand leaders brave enough to stand up to the gun lobby’s lies. All of us need to stand up and protect our fellow citizens. All of us need to demand that Governors, Mayors and our representatives in Congress do their part.

NTR Donates Money To Naidu’s Charity

Jr-NTR1

The Nandamuri actors are always in the news these days. While everyone is waiting for Balakrishna and his nephew Jr NTR to face off with their respective films during Sankranthi, something interesting happened on Thursday. Jr NTR appeared in the much popular TV show Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu, hosted by Nagarjuna. He won Rs 12, 50,000 and donated the money equally to two trusts.

Interestingly, one of the beneficiaries was the Basavatharakam Cancer Hospital run by Balakrishna, the other one being the NTR Trust run by AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. It’s quite interesting that Junior should choose two organizations run by two people who can make or break him.

Can this be a peace offering from Junior to Balakrishna and Naidu? Is he trying to get back in the good books of Balayya, Naidu and thereby his community?

‘Sharwanand’s performance shocked me’

Share

express-raja-working-stills-5

Chennai: Director Meralapaka Gandhi says there were several instances on the sets of forthcoming Telugu entertainer “Express Raja” where actor Sharwanand totally caught him off guard with his performance. “I knew he was a talented actor. But I had no idea he’s someone who can improvise so easily on the sets. There were so many scenes where he performed beyond my expectations. I was shocked by his performance,” Gandhi told IANS.

The film, which also stars Surbhi, Harish Uthaman and Brahmaji, is slated to release on January 14 worldwide. Throwing more light on the experience of working with Sharwanand, the director said: “I thoroughly enjoyed directing him. You don’t always get to work with actors who are so accommodative.” “Express Raja” is Gandhi’s sophomore film after the hugely successful “Venkatadri Expressa.

He says the ‘Express’ in the title of his new film is not a sentiment he carried forward from his last outing. “The ‘Express’ part of the title suits the hero’s character the best. He plays a character that does everything a tad faster than others. Because of which the screenplay, as the film progresses, gets racier,” he said, and added there’s a surprising element every 20 minutes in the film. These sporadic surprises, according to Gandhi, will ensure the film is different.

Gandhi has started working on his next project and says he lets his script choose the actors. “I never write with an actor in mind, because I believe then you automatically write it in a way to please him. I think that’s not healthy and that’s what happens in the case of most star-studded projects,” he said.
