Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP got branded as Reddy’s party. Those who got elected from the party belong to Reddy community and even in the party most of them occupy top posts.Sincce Reddys and Kapus get along with each other, YSRCP attracted even Kapu community.
Recently Jagan tried to attract Kapu community and he emerged successful to some extent. However Kammas from the beginning opposed the party. Jagan too didnot show much interest in Kammas as they are opposing him. However now Jagan realising that he cannot ignore a powerful community decided to change his strategy.
Jagan started concentrating on Kamma community. He is planning to bring in Devineni Nehru into the party. Both reached an understanding but Kapu leader Vangaveeti Radha is opposing Jagan’s move to induct Devineni Nehru, strong Kamma leader in Vijayawada.
Jagan is forcing Radha to bring in powerful kamma leaders into the party if he doesn’t want Devineni Nehru. Similarly he is giving importance to Kamma leader Kodali Nani. Some say Jagan who takes his own decisions regarding strategies this time changed his strategy on advice of important leaders.
The struggle has not been in vain. KCR and his family have already reaped the fruits of the T-agitation and continue to do so. It is now the turn of the MLA’s and MLC’s to enjoy as well albeit on a much smaller scale.
If the Telangana Committee on Amenities unanimous recommendation to hike the salaries of the legislators is accepted by the State Government, each MLA/MLC is likely to get a monthly salary of Rs. 3.50 lakh including all allowances.
The meeting of the Committee on Amenities held on Monday in the Committee Hall of Telangana Assembly unanimously favoured the hike.
At present, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Legislative Council, Government Whips and Leaders of Opposition enjoyed salary payable to Ministers of Cabinet rank.
The legislators are paid monthly salary of Rs. 95,000, out of which Rs. 83,000 is the constituency allowance. Sources said the meeting in one voice wanted the salary to be hiked to Rs. 3.50 lakh.
Other major demand made by them was to increase the loan component to buy new vehicles from the present Rs.15 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh and doing away with the slab of Rs. 2 lakh on medical treatment and providing free treatment to all legislators.
Members justified their demand claiming that they incurred expenditure on their political and non-political activities and had to travel extensively in the constituency besides frequenting the State Capital.
The members maintained that they meet their constituents regularly and also meet the food expenses of their personal staff including gunmen.
The recommendations will be accepted and the salaries hiked. But wait a minute! How can these legislators be so self-centered when farmers are committing suicides on a daily basis in ‘Bangaru Telangana’? Farmers? Who gives a feck about them?
