Akhila Bharatha Allu Sangam

At almost all the mega functions, we’re witnessing these “Pawan Kalyan” shouts. That’s the mouth work of few hardcore Pawan Kalyan fans who can’t resist the temptation. No way they could reason this as long as they are irritating guests like Prabhas and confusing other mega heroes on the stage.

Though Nagababu controlled them for a while, the way “Loafer” audio saw Pawan’s name resonating at its peaks. Seems like Bunny fans are going to give same medicine to Pawan Kalyan fans with their latest move. Till date there is no special fans association for Bunny, but now his fans have started this “Akhila Bharatha Allu Sangam” which is being inaugurated on January 1st. What’s the primary duty of this association if not shouting “Bunny..Bunny” at mega events?

Maybe that way they will level up the shouts of Pawan, gradually calming down both. On the flip side, with various mega heroes having their own specialised associations, anyone would expect all of them to stay under same roof rather fighting and spitting internals disputes on the road.

Adnan Sami is Indian now

It will be an apt New Year’s gift for Pakistani singer Adnan Sami. Mr Sami can become an Indian citizen as soon as he completes the necessary paperwork. The Union Home Ministry cleared the proposal on Wednesday. Mr Sami, who has been staying in India since 2011, will have to fill a citizenship form at the Home Ministry’s office in Delhi and pay Rs 13,700, a senior government official explained.

The Hindu reported on October 24 that the decks had been cleared for Mr Sami’s Indian citizenship after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi gave a favourable opinion. Mr Sami will be given citizenship under Section 6 (I) of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955 under the category “citizenship by naturalisation.” The power to grant citizenship lies only with the Home Ministry and Mr Sami will have to go to the Foreigners Division Office located on Jai Singh Road, near Connaught Place to complete the paperwork.

“There is a fee for every process and for acquiring citizenship it is Rs 13,700. He will have to sign the citizenship form as well and once the formality is done he will be provided the citizenship certificate,” said the official. As of now, Mr Sami is on a three-month visa extension which was given to him on October 6 by the MHA. Mr Sami’s Pakistani passport issued on May 27, 2010 expired on May 26 this year and it was not renewed by the Pakistan government. He renounced his Pakistani citizenship then.

Following this, Mr Sami approached the Home Ministry with the request to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds. Lahore-born Sami first arrived in India on March 13, 2001 on a visitor’s visa with a validity of one year. It was issued by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

Beijing’s race for the Eurasian heartland

china_2678125f

It is possible that amid the turbulence and violence radiating from West Asia and impacting large parts of the globe, especially Europe, the world’s focus may have been diverted from a game-changing development — China’s remarkable riposte to the ‘Pivot to Asia’ doctrine of the Barack Obama administration.

Equally significant has been Beijing’s partnership with Moscow, which flowered in 2015. The strategic partnership of the two established nuclear weapon powers is well on course to structure a paradigm shift that could disperse global power into channels of multipolarity.  Pacific-centred deterrents If the Americans focused on their Asia pivot — a doctrinal shift, geared toward the containment of China through the concentration of forces in the western Pacific — the Chinese did not waste any time in building a credible Pacific-centred nuclear and conventional deterrents in 2015. This has included reinforcement of its nuclear second-strike capability by mounting JL-2 missiles, with a range of 7,350 km, on its JIN class submarines.

Russia was a major partner in building the Chinese military deterrent. Beijing concluded with Moscow a decisive S-400 air defence deal. The contract nullifies threats by fighter jets or ballistic missiles by the U.S. or Japan if batteries of the S-400 missiles are deployed on the mainland or China’s artificial islands, built atop coral clusters, in the South China Sea. After protracted negotiations, the Russians are also supplying Su-35 fighter jets to China. The acquisition of 24 Su-35 planes would greatly extend China’s reach over the South China Sea. Su-35 planes, capable of taking off from short runways, will cover a large footprint if deployed from China’s newly developed artificial islands in the South China Sea.

Restructuring the economy As Western markets still remained trapped by the impact of the 2008 economic crisis, China in 2015 took major steps to restructure its economy through mega-investments in Eurasia under its Belt and Road initiative. Instead of pitching its jaw-dropping financial reserves in U.S. treasury bonds, China has decided to plough large amounts of its surplus funds in building railways, highways, industrial parks, and cyber-cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt, one that stretches from Xian in the East to Europe in the West. A $40-billion Silk Road Fund, the AIIB, the NDB of the BRICS, and China’s own state-run “policy banks” will provide the liquidity so that, instead of depending on the West, “new growth engines” are established along the New Silk Road.

China has been conscious that its Belt and Road initiative can more easily fly if it has the cooperation not only of Russia, which will take care of the western flank, but also of its eastern, South Asian flank, through a simultaneous engagement of India and Pakistan as well. Over the past year, China has brought India on board the Eurasian platform by partnering it in major initiatives to transform the international financial architecture. Far from being intimidated by the U.S., China switched to a bold counterattack mode in 2015, focusing on extending the collective influence, with Russia as the core partner, of the Silk Road countries along the Eurasian corridor. In causing a structural breach of uniploar world, China and Russia have set the stage either for a new cold war or a more harmonious multipolar world, provided “exceptionalist’ America agrees to a strategic realignment.

Ironically, China over the past year was deepening its stakes in the geographic swathe long identified as pivotal by British geopolitical analyst Halford John Mackinder as the “heartland”, one that stretches from the Volga to the Yangtze and from the Himalayas to the Arctic.

New way to move around

Share

Clipboard0_2675238g

Sometimes walking can be so tedious. Good thing there’s a new way to move. When people first encounter these odd looking, two-wheeled robot scooter thingies, they’re mystified, then intrigued, then adamant that they can’t live without one, even though they didn’t know it existed until 10 seconds ago.

But what exactly is it? There’s really no generic name yet, possibly because it’s so new. Electric unicycle, self-balancing mini smart scooter and drifting board are just a few of the SEO-driven descriptors that pop up at online retailers. It’s sort of unclear who invented it, too.

What this plastic-plank-on-two-wheels does, however, is arguably much more interesting than what it’s called. Performing much like a Segway sans handlebars, the device can propel a 280-pound person along roadways and parking lots and other relatively smooth, dry surfaces for about 10 to 12 miles at speeds up to 6 mph. Doesn’t sound terribly fast, but when you’re just an inch off the ground and not propelling yourself with what the good Lord gave you, it’s a lot. Like a Segway, the device is crammed with digital gyroscopes and stabilizers, as well as myriad sensors that calculate a rider’s centre of gravity and then adjust accordingly. Beginner mode cranks down the speed to 3.7 mph, or the equivalent of a nice stroll. This is a good thing, since a user’s initial tendency is to hop on and flail around. As the manual notes helpfully, this “will cause you to lose control and increase your probability of injury.”

To be fair, the manual also recommends that the user “stay relaxed and step on quickly, confidently and evenly,” as if “climbing a stair,” and then, “if your weight is distributed correctly and your centre of balance is level, you should be able to stand… just as if you were standing on the ground.” Having a spotter within easy reach, another recommendation, sounds reasonable. Getting the initial hang of the IO Hawk is supposed to take about 5 minutes and requires little more than thinking about, and slightly tilting your centre of gravity toward your desired direction. Off you go! Hopefully not into your spotter. Or a wall. Or off a curb. Full proficiency takes about a half-hour.

The IO Hawk sells online for about $1,800, but thanks to cutthroat competition among Chinese manufacturers, similar products are hitting the market with astonishing rapidity. A company called PhunkeeDuck makes and sells what appears to be the exact same thing as the IO Hawk for about $1,500. In fact, dozens of no-name, online companies have begun selling identical devices for much, much cheaper than that — a few are even in the $300 range.

But these lower-priced, motorised toys may vary wildly in terms.
