Washington:  Satya Nadella, Indian-American Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, will be among the “many Americans who have inspired Barack” watching President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address Tuesday from the First Lady’s Box. The 23 special guests attending Obama’s annual address to the Congress with first lady Michelle Obama “represent the progress we have made” over the last seven years. the White House said “Their stories – of struggle and success – highlight where we have been and where America is going in the future, building on the best of what our country has to offer.”

“The guests personify President Obama’s time in office and most importantly, they represent who we are as Americans: inclusive and compassionate, innovative and courageous,” it said. Originally from Hyderabad, India, Nadella joined Microsoft in 1992 and became its CEO in February 2014. “Microsoft has been a leader in expanding access to computer science in K-12 classrooms, and in Teach.org, a private public partnership to increase awareness of and support for the teaching profession,” the White House said. “In September, the company announced a new $75 million effort to expand computer science education, including opportunities for engineers from Microsoft and other companies with teachers to team-teach computer science,” it said. “In October 2015, under Satya’s leadership, Microsoft increased its paid leave benefits by eight weeks and now includes 20 weeks of paid leave for new mothers and 12 weeks for non-birth parents,”

Obama, who is making a strong push for common sense gun control measures has also decided to keep one of 24 guest seats empty, to symbolize victims of gun violence. Among other special guests would be Braeden Mannering, a 12-year-old boy who “after attending the White House Kids’ ‘State Dinner,’ started his own nonprofit to provide healthy food to homeless and low-income individuals in his community.” With South Carolina’s Republican Governor Nikki Haley seen as a potential vice presidential candidate, giving her party’s response to Obama’s address, two Indian-American governors would be bookending the president’s annual speeches. Republican Congressional leaders had chosen Louisiana’s outgoing governor Bobby Jindal to give the party’s response to Obama’s first address in 2009. For his final address, Obama plans to skip the traditional “laundry list” of legislative proposals, new policies and presidential appeals in favour of a broad overview of what he has accomplished since 2009 and what is undone in his final year in office.

He will give his assessment of what the country looks like in 2016 and the direction he hopes it will take in the future, aides said. Obama, according to his chief of staff, Denis McDonough would argue that “we’ve brought America back” citing achievements like the nuclear deal with Iran, restoration of diplomatic relations with Cuba, a global climate pact and an Asia-Pacific trade deal.

Just a couple of days ahead of Nannaku Prematho’s release, a large group of Muslims carried out a huge protest rally against NTR and his Sankranthi release Nannaku Prematho, demanding strict action against the film’s unit and removal of a scene for hurting their religious sentiments through a poster.

Witnessing the fury, the Nannaku Prematho makers immediately tendered an apology and announced that they have withdrawn the controversial poster and also removed the shots from the film. The controversy ended for good and the film released without any jitters.

But the latest show cause notice issued by the Minority Commission to NTR, Rakul, Sukumar, BVSN Prasad and his son Baapi asking them to appear before the commission before the 18th only shows that the controversy is still on. The Commission also warned the film’s team of criminal cases if they fail to attend the hearing.

The controversy kicked off when the Nannaku Prematho’s team released a poster in which NTR and Rakul are seen dancing with Islamic scriptures shown in the background. The protestors filed a police complaint against the film’s unit and even appealed to the censor board to remove the objectionable content in the film.

Despite a ban on the Cock fights in Andhra Pradesh, the punters raked in Rs 100 crore at day one of the three day Sankranthi festival.

The cockfights, which were recently banned by the High Court have again started in costal districts on the occasion of Sankranthi. Though the cops kept an eye on them, the organizers and the politicians allowed the cock fights at their respective areas in a large scale.

It is reported that around Rs 500 crore is the total turnover of the fights for this sankranti. Even though few organizers were arrested, the politicians continued encouraging the practice and the gambling and even set up tents across the village.

“Police know about the venues of cock fights. They simply warn the organizers and do not conduct raids as local politicians are involved. The police carry out raids at isolated places for records sake,” claimed a punter in Polavaram village of East Godavari district. “We are keeping a strict vigil, but the involvement of politicians has minimised our role,” admitted a senior police officer in the city.

The punters can bet any amount starting from Rs 100 to Rs 10 lakh and if they win, they would receive the money on the spot.

The fight begins in the morning and usually ends in the evening but for some the fight continued till after the sunset. According to the locals, the attendance to the fight was not high due to Bogi, but suspect that the number would increase after Sankranthi. Higher attendance equals more money!!

Is Dictator Balayya Babu trying to get into Andhra Pradesh Cabinet? Is he interested in becoming a Minister? When mediapersons asked Balakrishna at Naravaripalle, where he is enjoying the Sankranthi, he said if he gets an opportunity to become a minister, he would work to the best of his capacity.

Thus Balakrishna has indirectly hinted that he was game for minister’s post in Chandrababu Naidu cabinet. However, he said whether he should be in the cabinet was a matter of Chief Minister’s discretion. “But, if I get an opportunity, I would work to the best of my capacity,” he said.

Balakrishna also said that his son Mokshagnya may be introduced in his 100th film. He said Dictator is like full meals and would give full fledged entertainment to all the viewers. But, the biggest question is whether Dictator will bow to the Diktats of his ‘Viyyankudu’ Chandrababu.
