Bruce Lee Blame Game Should Stop

None needs to take the blame for whatever happened with disastrous verdict given by audience for ‘Bruce Lee.’ While some say Kona Venkat gave a miserable script, others say the same script is further deplorably handled by Srinu Vytla. Anyways, they two have already been in a blame game without pulling Mega camp into centre.

Now here comes a different version of campaign initiated in Film Nagar circles saying, Ramcharan and Chiranjeevi as the key players who ruined ‘Bruce Lee’ output by their ugly involvement into every portion of film during the production and post production. However, Mega sources revolted on this thesis quoting a fact that Chiranjeevi hasn’t even watched the first rushes of film keeping trust on Vytla and Kona.

It’s high time for all of the ‘Bruce Lee’ victims to stop this political play. All three of them, Charan and Vytla, Kona needs an urgent hit. Instead of making the issue much more critical, get busy with your respective projects and enjoy a break through. There’s nothing to help you in digging the tragic past.

Nagarjuna on Festive Advantage!

As explained earlier on Akkineni Nagarjuna had a wonderful strategy on mind while releasing the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ eyeing to generate a positive buzz and develop the pre release market, the strategy has simply worked more than what Nag would have expected.

Now that trailer got superb response and everyone started to appreciate both the looks of Akkineni Nagarjuna, there is a subsequent hike in probability of this flick to hit the screens for Pongal. In fact, buyers are also heard on forcing Nagarjuna to pit this family entertainer against ‘Nannaku Prematho’ and ‘Dictator.’

Given the vast advantage Pongal season caters for movies of all genres, Nag would be on advantage with this wholesome family entertainer when the above mentioned two Nandamuri movies are meant for mass audience. Of course, there is no class and no mass when it comes holiday and festive season.

But, still family audience might prefer to enjoy Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishna, Lavanya Tripathi, Hamsa Nandini, Anasuya in a village backdrop than other costly backdrops hitting in the same time.

Radio rebels: tiny transmitters for Syria

Germany Syria Radio_Kand

BERLIN: On the top floor of an old brick building in the heart of Berlin, a group of journalists and tech enthusiasts are working to spur the Syrian media revolution. Their weapon is an unassuming black case the size of a shoebox that allows opposition radio stations in Syria to transmit inside hostile territory. Dubbed PocketFM, the device is basically a low-powered radio transmitter. Coupled with a satellite dish to receive new programs, a car battery for power and a one-meter (three-foot) antenna it can broadcast FM radio within a 5-kilometer (3-mile) radius.

That’s enough to cover a town, or a city district, said Philipp Hochleichter, who oversees development of the device for the Berlin-based non-profit organization Media in Cooperation and Transition. The group has been training journalists in conflict zones for more than a decade and often relies on FM radio to reach populations in far-flung areas that don’t have access to the Internet or smartphones. But when the group realized that shifting front lines and the brutal treatment of journalists meant operating large broadcast antenna could become too cumbersome or risky, it developed PocketFM.

It’s now being used to covertly broadcast in nine locations, including two that are controlled by the Islamic State group, said Hochleichter. Connected to a solar panel, a PocketFM transmitter can theoretically work autonomously for long periods of time. The project, which also includes compiling a daily best of from nine cooperating radio stations that is beamed down by satellite, is financed by the German Foreign Ministry. It cooperates only with moderate opposition groups who have to abide by a code of conduct. “Of course it’s necessary for us to make sure they don’t fall into propaganda scheme which is very tough in Syria at the moment,” said Najat Abdulhaq, a Palestinian journalist who manages the project.

Listeners might be surprised to find that aside from urgently needed information – which borders are open, what are the prices in the market, how are refugees abroad faring – there’s a fair amount of light entertainment. “People have a day-to-day life despite conflict,” said Abdulhaq. “Despite the sadness and the war people like to listen to music and even comedy.” Hochleichter said Monday that the group is currently working on its third version of PocketFM, which it hopes to complete by the middle of next year.

As with previous versions, the technology is decidedly low key, with a $40 Raspberry Pi computer at the heart of the device. “We’re not a hardware company that’s got $100,000 to develop new technology,” Hochleichter said. The next version will be slightly more powerful and boast a new security feature that allows users to remotely switch off the device by text message to prevent it being traced. With the war in Syria running for almost five years, the third version is almost certain to see use. “I wish, but I would be very naive if I would believe, that the conflict would be over next year,” said Abdulhaq.

KCR’s Chandi Yagam Funded By College Groups!

Hyderabad: The controversies surrounding Telangana CM K.Chandrasekhar Rao’s Aayutha Chandi Maha Yagam from December 23 to 27 refuse to die down even after the CM gave a clarification that he was spending his own money and that of ‘like-minded friends with belief in God and yagams’. KCR said around Rs 7 crore is being spent on yagam. However, an interesting debate is going on in political circles over who are those ‘like-minded people’ who came forward to invest crores on KCR’s yagam.

Grapevine is that two big corporate college groups, namely, Narayana and Sri Chaitanya Groups, which have a vast network of colleges in Telangana, more so hundreds of colleges in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts itself, were funding the yagam. Speculations are rife that the Telangana government had recently issued show-cause notices to hundreds of colleges owned by these two groups, for running unauthorised colleges without seeking approval from Board of Intermediate Education. It is being said that Rs 5 crore penalty was levied on both these groups. The timing of issuing showcause notices to these colleges fuelled speculations that the TRS leaders were expecting funds from these groups to conduct yagam.

To avoid cases in future, it is said that the owners of both these groups came forward to fund the yagam instead of paying Rs 5 crore penalty to government. In this way, they want to please TRS bosses besides ensuing that there would be no problem for their colleges in future. Former Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud too alleged that corporate colleges were funding chandi yagam and said if his charges are false, the TRS leaders should come out with details on who are funding crores for yagam.

Director A.S. Ravi Kumar Chowdary’s excitement knew no bounds when he got an opportunity to work with actor Gopichand for the second time in his career in the forthcoming Telugu entertainer “Soukhyam”. “It was Gopi who gave me a break in ‘Yagnam’, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have worked with him again,” Chowdary told IANS, adding that they never bonded on a professional level during the course of the shoot. “We worked more on a personal level and our relationship was very friendly. It wasn’t like how usually a director and an actor get along. Whenever in doubt, both of us would sit down and clarify things,” he said.

Talking about the film, Ravi said: “It will be an out-and-out entertainer. It will be 80 percent entertainment and 20 percent action.” The film, which releases in cinemas on Thursday, also stars Regina Cassandra, Brahmanandam, Posani Krishna Murali and Saptagiri in important roles. “This is also my second film with Regina. I’m confident that her career will catapult to great heights post the release of this film,” he added.

The film also stars veteran actress Sowcar Janaki, and the director considered working with her an “honour”. “It was absolutely amazing to work with her. She plays a fun character. She bridges the gap between the hero and heroine and helps in making the romance come alive between them. Even at this age, she acts with so much commitment,” he said.

2015: Indian Americans pack more heft in Modi’s shadow

Washington: The influential Indian-American community packed more heft in 2015 as America wooed “India’s reformer-in-chief” Narendra Modi, as President Barack Obama called his “good friend” amid another love fest with the Indian diaspora. Beyond power meetings with Obama and other world leaders at the UN, as the Indian prime minister on his second odyssey to America courted big business and tech titans of Silicon Valley, he found several desi faces across the table. Among them were Ajay Banga, chairman of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) representing more than 300 of the largest international companies investing in India, Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella and Google’s newly-minted chief, Sundar Pichai.

Obama, who has the largest number of Indian Americans in his administration, also added MasterCard CEO Banga to his ever expanding Indian talent pool by naming him as a member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. As India and the US together battle the scourge of terrorism, Obama named Rashad Hussain, a Muslim of Indian heritage, as US Special Envoy and Coordinator for Strategic Counter-Terrorism Communications. Son of immigrant parents from India, Hussain had since 2010 served as US Special Envoy to the 57-member Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to build partnerships with Muslim communities around the world. Again, as the White House looked for its first chief data scientist, Obama turned to Dhanurjay ‘DJ’ Patil to help shape policies and practices to help the US remain a leader in technology and innovation.

Rajiv Shah, another son of immigrant Indian parents, left the US Agency for International Development (USAID) after five years at the helm of the agency engaged in a mission of ending extreme poverty and promoting resilient, democratic societies. Other Obama appointees included Swati A. Dandekar as US director of the Asian Development Bank, Arun Majumdar, an Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay alumnus as one of four US science envoys, and Atul Keshap as ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Keshap was the second person of Indian descent to be posted to the region after Richard Rahul Verma was appointed US ambassador to India, while Nisha Desai Biswal heads the State Department’s South Asia bureau.

Obama presented the 2014 National Medal of Arts and Humanities to Pulitzer Prize winning Indian-American author Jhumpa Lahiri. Modi, along with Nadella, Chanda Kochhar (managing director and CEO of ICICI Bank) and Vikram Patel (co-founder of the NGO Sangath), also made it to the Time magazine’s list of the World’s 100 most influential people. Foreign Policy magazine’s list of 100 Leading Global Thinkers featured Nina Tandon, co-founder of Epibone, New York city, and India-born Zainab Ghadiyali, an engineer at Facebook, “for cracking the STEM ceiling”. Also included were Rajan Anandan, managing director of Google, Southeast Asia and India, and Ayesha Khanna, founder of the Civic Accelerator, an investment fund for socially conscious enterprises.

Bhagwati Agrawal was listed among CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of 2015 for bringing safe drinking water to more than 10,000 drought-stricken people in his native Rajasthan. A New York couple, Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon, announced a $100 million gift to the New York University School of Engineering in what is believed to be the largest philanthropic gift by a member of the Indian-American community. In the political arena, swinging against ‘hyphenated Americans’, Bobby Jindal made a historic but short-lived run for the US presidential race, while California Attorney General Kamala Harris, a “good friend” of Obama, threw her hat in the ring for the US Senate. With a whopping 29.4 percent increase, a record high of 132,888 Indian students studying in the US in 2014-15 academic year contributed $3.6 billion to the US economy.

Renu Khator was elected chair of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Education (ACE), the major coordinating body for US colleges and universities. But it wasn’t all hunky dory for Indian-Americans. They too had their share of bad news. A visiting Indian grandfather was slammed to the ground by an Alabama police officer. But the offending cop went scot free with two mistrials leaving the South Asian community organisations outraged. Terrorist attacks in Paris and California led to a rise in hate crimes against Muslims as well as Sikhs, who are often mistaken for Muslims because of their beards and turbans. National Sikh Campaign (NSC) and 15 diverse civil rights and faith-based organisations joined up to address hateful rhetoric against religious minorities. The White House teamed up with a Sikh and an Asia Pacific community group to launch a public awareness campaign to address bullying in six languages including Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.

19 Telugu Students Denied Flight To America

Share

america

The future of 19 students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is staring at void when these students with American dreams were denied boarding on the San Francisco bound Air India flight on Sunday night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Samshabad.

The Air India authorities implemented the instructions given by the Unites States Customs and Border Protection after the US government recently deported 14 Indian students who secured admissions in two California-based universities, Silicon Valley, San Jose, California and Northwestern Polytechnic University, Fremont, CA, which are blacklisted and are under ‘scrutiny’ for their alleged visa fraud.

As of now, Air India vowed to refund in full the cost of the tickets to the 19 students and they will be issued boarding passes as soon as clearance is received from Air India’s US office for their travel.

However, this is not the first time that the Indian students with American education dreams were cheated. In the past, universities such as Tri-Valley University and Herguan University in California, and the University of Northern Virginia in Washington DC came under the scanner for student visa misuse.
