More revelations are coming in about the much awaited Megastar Chiranjeevi’s prestigious comeback film, Kaththi. The film, an official remake of the Tamil blockbuster, will be directed by VV Vinayak and jointly produced by Ram Charan’s Konidela Productions and Robo 2.0 makers Lyca Productions.

However, apart from the film’s director and producers, nothing much has been revealed about the film’s other cast and crew until now. Recently, there were speculations that Milky Beauty Tamannaah will romance Chiru. Now, latest reports reveal that the team has finalized Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi for the villain’s role.

If reports end up becoming true eventually, Vivek will be seen playing a greedy industrialist whom Chiru will oppose to save his village from encroachment of its resources. In the original, Neil Nitin Mukesh nailed his role to perfection. Vivek is well known to Telugu audiences through films like Rakta Charitra and Krrish 3.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ – A visually captivating masterpiece

Share

bajiraomastani21450426269

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani”, based on the novel “Rau” authored by N.S. Inamdar, is a fictionalised romance drama that encapsulates the 20 year reign of the Maratha warrior Bajirao and his relationship with his second wife Mastani. The film begins with Bajirao’s appointment as Peshwa in the court of Chhattrapati Shahu in Satara. The narration thereafter leads you into his expeditions, his encounter with Mastani and their subsequent, intense romance.

Mounted on a magnificent scale with well-etched characters, resplendent sets and period costumes, the director, intricately and flawlessly, transports you to the era of the Peshwas, circa 1720-1740. What makes the film stand out is Bhansali’s direction. He astutely manages to guide his team to deliver the best. Be it in performances, music, visuals or action, his inimitable stamp is written over every frame of the film. Prakash Kapadia’s screenplay is water-tight and engaging, keeping you riveted to the screen for over 2 hours. His dialogues are colloquial, yet, power-packed. There is no iota of excess, and embellished with the right amount of Marathi words, these sharp and taut dialogues are full of wit, messages and equally hard-hitting.

The performances by the characters are captivating. Bajirao Mastani is Ranveer Singh’s canvas. With his well-chiselled physique, bald pate with a single lock of hair, he slips into Bajirao’s hide perfectly. His energy and intensity on screen is palpable. You empathise with him when he is honest with both his wives and you root for him when he rebels against his widowed mother Radhabai and the high priest. And most of all, your heart beats for him when he pines for Mastani. The last scene of the film is powerful and Ranveer’s presence and competence, takes it a rung higher. Deepika Padukone as the defiant and confident warrior Mastani, madly in love with Bajirao, is effortlessly convincing. Her performance resonates with the right attitude, both as a warrior and as Bajirao’s love interest, making her stand out.

Priyanka Chopra in her navaris — the nine yard saris, as the obviously hurt Kashibai — Bajirao’s first wife, though a bit dramatic, is herself, glossed-up and pretentious. But nevertheless, she essays her role ably. Tanvi Azmi as the obtrusive Radhabai is remarkable, with the right amount of drama and restraint in her performance. The others in supporting roles, too, are perfectly handpicked and deliver outstanding performances. Visually, the film is mesmerising. The computer generated images seamlessly interlace cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee’s frames. With his wide angle shots, he not only captures the locales, but also the intricate details of the tale, to perfection. His atmospheric lighting lends authenticity to the period depicted in the film. He has also managed to portray the battle scenes brilliantly, making it look natural and real.

Bhansali’s music, with its theatrical background score and soulful songs, integrates well with the narration. The well-choreographed dance sequences are a treat to watch, though the song “Pinga” seems a bit forced and is reminiscent of his “Dola re Dola” in Devdas. The action sequences by Shyam Kaushal are easily one of the highlights of the film. Overall, “Bajirao Mastani” is a spectacular masterpiece which will stay with you much after you leave the cinema hall.

Mega Hero’s Hot Romance In Thar Desert

Share

sai dharam

Mega menalludu Sai Dharam Tej is looking forward to seal a proper blockbuster next time. He has joined hands with Harish Shankar recently for Subramanyam For Sale, but the result wasn’t as amazing as expected. While he proved as 20 crore worth hero, in the end few distributors are left with small bruises.

What’s in store for him now? Apparently Sai Dharam teamed up with “Pataas” maker Anil Ravipudi this time. They are coming up with “Supreme”, where our hero will be seen in a Gangleader inspired cab driver role, while Raashi Khanna will be donning cap of a police officer.

Currently Sai Dharam and Raashi are romancing under the hot sun in Thar desert and other locales in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. We heard that a romantic song is being shot on lead pair, and Raashi’s glamour is competing with Sai Dharam’s dance moves.

If “Supreme” scores a blockbuster, repeating both the successes of Pataas and Subramanyam For Sale, then it is going to be a festival for Saidharam. His position at Box Office will be cemented first place after the likes of Charan and Bunny, who are ruling roost from Mega troupe.

Anup is extremely attached to his mother and he even dedicated the superhit ‘Kanipenchina Ma Ammake’ song from Manam to his mother in a TV interview. Let us hope that the family will come out of these troubled times very soon.

If Stories Are Like This, No 151st Film

Share

puri2

Probably it’s Puri Jagan who made Megastar Chiranjeevi to announce publicly that the second half written by him is not convincing. That is regarding Megastar’s 150th film, regarding which Chiru sang little early in media hurting Puri Jagan. But there seems to be truth in Megastar’s decision.

Looking at the way Puri Jagan crafted “Loafer” second half, one could say that Puri Jagan is running out of ideas. His clueless situation made him borrow scenes and dialogues from his previous films like Desamuduru, Ek Niranjan and Golimaar.

That’s why Loafer sounded logic less, bumpy and jumpy screenplay kind, and lacking that overall soul. Probably “Auto Jaani” script would have been in similar fashion, for which Megastar rejected, comments cine lovers.

Forget about 150th now, Puri stated that he will direct 151st or 156th, whatever number it maybe; but will Chiru give him a film if he keeps on writing these kind of stories in half day and their dialogues in 1 week? Have an introspection session Puri!!

Ilayaraja Loses His Cool Over Beep Song

The ugly fire which was set by the controversial ‘Beep Song’ allegedly composed and performed by Simbu and Anirudh Ravichander is only spreading with each passing day. This offensive and derogatory song has already angered several women’s organizations, and the cops are currently on a lookout to arrest Simbu.

Yesterday, it was the musical legend Maestro Ilayaraja’s turn to lose his cool over the Beep Song. Ilayaraja was at an event which was organized to provide relief materials to the flood affected victims in Chennai.

Prior to the event, an enthusiastic journalist asked Ilayaraja about his views on the Beep Song. Immediately angered by the journo’s question, Ilayaraja fired on him asking him how dare he question him about such inappropriate matters when the purpose of his visit was to help the flood victims.

Noticing the legend’s fury, the journalist tried to explain but Raja gave him no respite and continued to blast him. Realizing that the situation was going out of control, the event’s organizers intervened and immediately accompanied Ilayaraja inside the auditorium.

KCR Invites ABN Chief Radhakrishna

Share

kcr

Looks like the Telangana CM KCR is determined to wipe out all the differences and animosity between him and his archrivals. Already, KCR personally flew down to Amaravati and invited his biggest political opponent, the AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu, to his ambitious Ayutha Chandi Yagam.

Now, KCR once again surprised everyone when he personally telephoned yet another arch rival, the ABN Andhra Jyothi honcho Vemuri Radhakrishna, and invited him to the Chandi Yagam along with his wife. Along with Radhakrishna, KCR also invited all the media barons in the Telugu states.

The KCR-Radhakrishna feud is well known ever since the ABN Andhra Jyothi was banned in the Telangana region by the cable operators’ syndicate allegedly at the behest of KCR. However after more than a year of its seizure, the channel was restored in Telangana following a Supreme Court’s order.

Beijing issues red alert – 2 for heavy smog

Share

china_2661930f

Beijing has issued its second red alert for air pollution in December as a new bout of smog is forecast to hit the capital from Saturday to Tuesday. The red alert, the most serious level, will last from 7.00 a.m. (local time) Saturday to 12.00 p.m. Tuesday, limiting vehicles on roads according to odd-even license plate numbers, Xinhua reported.

Fireworks and outdoor barbecue would be banned, the Beijing heavy pollution emergency response headquarters said on Friday. Parts of north China will see the worst smog so far this year from Saturday, the National Meteorological Centre said on Thursday. The air pollution will be worse than the spell between December 6 and 9 it forecast. Visibility in Beijing and some neighbouring regions will be reduced to less than one kilometre.

The density of PM2.5, particulate matter smaller than 2.5 mm used to measure air quality, in some of the regions will exceed 500 mg per cubic metre. The World Health Organisation’s recommended maximum is 25 mg per cubic metre. Citizens were advised to reduce outdoor activities and kindergartens, primary and middle schools were expected to suspend classes during the alert. Beijing issued its first ever red alert for air pollution on December 7, when PM 2.5 reached the top of the scale at 500.

Satellite that shed light on dark matter

Share

satellite_representational

Beijing: China on Thursday successfully launched the country’s first space telescope in search for signals of dark matter, an invisible material that makes up most of the universe’s mass. The Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) Satellite, which has been given the moniker “Wukong” after the Monkey King from the Chinese classical fiction “Journey to the West, “was launched on a Long March 2-D rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. It will enter a sun-synchronous orbit at a height of 500 km to observe the direction, energy and electric charge of high-energy particles in space. The satellite is designed to undertake a three-year space mission, but scientists hope it could last five, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

They also hope the 1.9-tonne desk-sized satellite could help shine more light on the hypothetical mass during that short period. Dark matter, which does not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation to be observed directly, is one of the huge mysteries of modern science. Theorised by scientists who could not understand missing mass and strangely bent light in faraway galaxies, dark matter has become widely accepted in the physics community even though its existence has never been concretely proven. Scientists now believe that only around five per cent of the total mass-energy of the known universe is made up of ordinary matter—protons, neutrons, electrons— whereas dark matter and dark energy make up the rest.

“Exploration of dark matter could, therefore, give us a clearer idea about the past and future of galaxies and the universe, and will be revolutionary for the world of physics and space science,” Chang Jin, chief scientist on the project said. China also runs an underground dark matter lab in the southwest province of Sichuan, some 2,400 metres under the earth’s surface. DAMPE will support research using the third method, scientists are hoping the findings will help clarify previous observation results and lift the “invisible cloak” of dark matter. “This is like tracking down the ‘son’ of dark matter—if you cannot find the father, you go to the son and you could learn about at least some properties of his father,” Chang said.

Wukong will scan space in all directions in the first two years and focus on sections where dark matter is most likely to be observed afterward. Chang said Wukong has the widest observation spectrum and highest energy resolution of any dark-matter probe in the world. The new satellite’s observation spectrum is approximately nine times wider than the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer onboard the International Space Station, while its energy resolution is at least three times higher than its international peers, according to Chang.

‘Dilwale’ – SRK wows in this formulaic saga

Share

dilwale1450420041

“Dilwale”, with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead, after a long gap, seems reason enough to go and watch this film. With the two legendary Dilwalas, one expects the same magic from this duo on screen. And they don’t disappoint, albeit in a smaller segment. Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) aka Kali lives a peaceful life with his younger brother Vir (Varun Dhwan) on whom he dotes. Together, they run a garage where they modify and repair cars, giving them a makeover. His two friends, Anwar (Pankaj Tripathi) and Shakti (Mukesh Tiwari) are an intrinsic part of his life and are privy to his dubious past of 15 years ago, which he has buried and about which no one else knows.

With King Khan and director Rohit Shetty, one expects mega entertainment. “Dilwale” is a formulaic film, replete with all the ingredients of a typical Rohit Shetty film – Goa, cars overturning, fast-paced action and bright candy coloured sets. But the film lacks soul and freshness. The story and setting transport you back to the 1990s and the lack of novelty and newness in the script and treatment, is what lets you down. The dialogues abounding in pun, which are supposed to be funny, are really not so. A few situational comedy scenes evoke laughter, but don’t really entertain or amuse you for too long.

Shah Rukh lights up the screen with this presence undoubtedly and is the rasion d’etre to watch the film, but the script does not back him enough. He fights, falls in love, indulges in action, romances his lady love, but one has seen him do all this so many times before. The fault lies with the writing and his characterisation. He delivers sincerely, what is expected of him. Kajol too is competent as always, but as Meera – Khan’s love interest, she seems to be stuck somewhere in the 1990s as her character lacks lustre. She looks radiant, performs competently and matches Shah Rukh in histrionics.

Varun as Vir, exudes energy, but overacts in several scenes. He is the stereotypical younger brother in Hindi films and makes no attempt to move away from that and offer some new dimension to his character. Kriti Sanon as Ishita, Vir’s love interest, has a strong screen presence and is natural even if she is meant to be just a bit more than eye candy. Varun Sharma as Siddhu, Vir’s buddy is a disappointment, compared to his performance in his debut film. Johnny Lever as Mani, entertains a fair amount in his usual inimitable style. Sanjay Mishra as Oscar, makes a mark as always, as he offers something new each time on screen. Boman Irani as King, takes on a comic avatar, but seems a wee bit stereotyped. Vinod Khanna as a Bulgaria-based Don Randhir Bakshi, is wasted, as he has limited screen time.

The music, apart from “Gerua”, which is beautifully picturised, is disappointing. The mindless action scenes are expectedly flawlessly executed, but oft seen. The cinematographer elevates the viewing experience, as he captures Bulgaria and all other locales beautifully, transporting you there. Dilwale” is strictly for Shah Rukh Khan’s fans. They are bound to overlook everything else.

‘Lollipop’ Song – No Rehearsals

Actress Shweta Bharadwaj, who has grooved to a special number called “Lollipop” in Telugu entertainer “Soukyam”, says she shot for the song with no rehearsals. “The song was shot on a very short notice. I was initially never interested because when I was approached for the song, I was on a holiday in Portugal. I never wanted to do it, but they were hell-bent on roping me in,” Shweta told IANS. When she came on board, the makers were on a tight schedule and actor Gopichand could only spare one day for the shoot.

“We shot the song in four days. We didn’t even have time to rehearse. I picked up most of the steps on the sets. We started shooting as early as 5 a.m. and I was under so much pressure because we couldn’t afford to waste time on retakes,” she said. Shweta had to shoot for the song in a single costume. “The makers had only one costume and since we were shooting for long hours, we didn’t even have enough time to get the costume dry-cleaned. I wore the same costume on all the four days of shoot,” she said.

Talking about the song, which she described as a “fun number”, she hopes that it will get as popular as her last Telugu song “Bad Boys” from Mahesh Babu starrer “Dookudu”. “When I played the song to my friends in Mumbai, they all had so much fun listening to it. I hope it gets as popular as ‘Bad Boys’. I can’t wait to the see the video the song,” she said. Also starring Regina Cassandra, the film is directed by A.S Ravikumar Chowdhary and is slated to release on Dec 24.
