Disha Patani is making her debut with Loafer opposite Varun Tej. The film is releasing this week, and Disha says, “I met Puri sir (Jagannadh, the director) two years back for a film, but it didn’t work out. Now, after two years I auditioned for this film.” “He is famous for his dialogues and he is one of the most stylish filmmakers in South. Also, he makes commercial films in a different manner,” says Disha. “All Telugu girls will definitely connect with my character. I am playing a simple and modern girl who, however, is rooted to her cultural values,” she adds. Like every other actress from the North, Disha, too, faced language problems, but she doesn’t consider it as a hurdle. “The language problem is there for everyone who comes from North. But it wasn’t a problem as I got all my dialogues beforehand and I learnt their meaning. Everyone on the sets helped me.”
She adds that she likes the atmosphere in the Telugu industry. “I have just started my career here but I would love to do more Telugu films if I get good opportunities,” she says. “It was an amazing experience, everyone treated me like a baby during shooting. I was never stressed on the sets or anywhere as they made me feel comfortable. I enjoyed the work and also had fun on the sets,” she says.
Disha adds that she was surprised that the film completed so fast. “In Bollywood, on an average, movies are made in six months or a year, but Puri completed Loafer in two months,” she says. The actress says that working with Revathi was another good experience. “It was a great learning experience for me,” she says.
“I am learning aerobics and gymnastics, so I would love to do an action film. From my childhood I have watched a lot of action films and I am a big fan of Jackie Chan,” says the actress, who hails from Uttarakhand. She comes from a military background. “We kept shifting houses and when I was pursuing my BTech when I got an opportunity to model. So I came to Mumbai and then acted in commercials. Then I thought about trying my luck in films too,” she says. “Actually I wanted to be an Air Force pilot, but all this just happened,” she adds.
Talking about her co-star Varun Tej, she says, “I never felt that he is from the Mega family as he is a very down-to-earth guy. Sometimes he helped me with the Telugu dialogues and their meanings. He is a hard working person and I learnt a lot from him. He is a sweet guy and he always made me feel comfortable. It is very easy to work with him,” she says. The actress says that she is also doing a Hindi film, but can’t reveal the details. “I can’t talk about the project, but it is a big one. The film is releasing in April next year.”
