In Christmas season, Paris is aglow but uneasy

The tributes and the vigil at the Place de la Republique square in Paris continue with candles, flowers and the occasional song. Everyday, volunteers adjust the candles and flowers meticulously, more people come to remember, and slogans of peace and solidarity are all around the statue and monument that proclaims the formation of the Third Republic. A month since terror Just over a month after the terrorist attacks that killed 130 people, the city is nervously moving on, preparing for Christmas. The Eiffel tower shimmers with lights, beaming a spotlight out to the world, and the Champs Elysees is aglow with LED lights on trees.

The Paris Metro, the RER trains and the climate-controlled buses ferry tens of thousands of people smoothly. A cold Monday evening does not deter thousands of visitors, who stroll along the boulevard from the Arc du Triomphe, under the watchful eyes of armed police. The avenue trees that in summer make this vista a living watercolour painting now have an LED light canopy. Kiosks selling vin chaud (hot wine) are everywhere, interspersed with those selling French handicrafts and clothes.

Paris struggled after the November 13 terror attacks which came on the eve of the Christmas season, emptying hotels in good measure. The successful climate change conference steered by the French presidency helped the city recover, having hosted 150 heads of state on a single day — a unique security challenge for any city in the world, and more so for one that experienced a terror attack.

Tourists — from within France and outside — have spent a total of €149 billion in France, the country with the “most international tourist arrivals” according to official statistics. Paris claims to be unique in having Welcome City Lab, an incubator for tourism-related start-ups with the city administration partnering in the venture. Following the climate conference, hotels are once again focused on attracting tourists.

Solar power A good deal of LED illumination of the Champs Elysees, with its cinemas, designer stores and top-of-the-line car displays, is being powered this year by solar panels to highlight the climate theme. The panels sponsored by the furniture major IKEA are themselves an exhibit on this high fashion stretch, with a live display that says over 95 units of power were produced in a not too sunny day. Other tourist attractions in Paris are also attracting a large number of tourists. At the Notre Dame Cathedral, famous for its flying buttresses architecture, security personnel with automatic rifles scan the long line waiting to enter. Everyone is screened with a metal detector.

This December, there are two kinds of lights in Paris. The candles at Republique, at the Bataclan theatre on Boulevard Voltaire (where the maximum number of people were killed in the November attack) and at other places which tell the story of a city shocked. On the Champs Elysees and other boulevards, the LEDs around silver buntings seem to symbolise the city of lights looking ahead.

Rajamouli Cannot Keep Her Away!

Share

jklpoiuy

Rajamouli is a perfect story teller who strictly selects his artists based on necessity and bends them till he gets the best output. As we all know, Tamanna was a late entry into ‘Bahubali’ project because Rajamouli shot Avanthika portions in later schedules. During those times, milk beauty happened to be a surprise entry and now when Rajamouli offered her a small portion in ‘Bahubali 2,’ why would she reject it?

‘I thought that my character would end with first part but now it got an extension into Bahubali – The Conclusion. When I met Rajamouli Garu recently, he said me that I got a small portion and I was really amazed. I am not worried about length of my character because it is a matter of pride to get a place in both the parts of magnum opus,’ Tamanna informed.

Meanwhile, Tammu is also enjoying the commercial success of ‘Bengal Tiger’ wherein again she oozed lots of oomph and has done all those needed for a mass masala flick. Finally, Jakkanna cannot keep Tamanna away. Let us see, how Avanthika is prolonged into second in series.

Suspension continues over Superstar Rajinikanth’s baddie in his next film ‘Robo 2’ (Enthiran 2 in Tamil). Director Shankar wanted Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger as antagonist in the much awaited flick. Although makers are ready to pay any amount as remuneration for Arnold, the Terminator star’s huge demands have irked them. Rajini and Shankar were in US recently for makeup test. Both tried to please Arnold, but the discussions turned infertile.

While Shankar is now looking for other best options for the role, hero Ajith Kumar who is considered as next superstar in Tamil has expressed his wish to play baddie in any of Rajinikanth’s film. Ajith earlier played roles with negative shades in several films such as Varalaru, Vaali, Billa etc and these films made him star in Tamil.

Rajinikanth also likes Ajith’s acting and the Superstar lauded the Thala’s performance various times. So, Rajinikanth would surely mull over Ajith’s request to star in his film.

On the flip side, Ajith was one of probables for Robo. But, due to some reasons, the actor was opted out of the project and was replaced by Rajinikanth. Therefore, it would be no problem for Shankar signing Ajith for his film. Let’s wait and see who gets the chance to share screen space with Rajinikanth!

Varun Tej, In His Image Building Process!

varun-tej-in-loafer-and-his-image-building-process_b_1612150933

Varun Tej is by no means a regular Mega camp hero with mass image and immense mass following. He is a versatile artist first and then a star hero in grooming stages. ‘I do not want to restrict myself in an image trap. That is the reason why, I am trying to improve myself with each film, selecting different range of scripts and characters. I do not wish to see myself as a star hero. I just want to be a sincere artist,’ Varun says.

Meanwhile Varun’s new movie ‘Loafer’ releasing tomorrow in direction of Puri Jagannath is also one more new intense characterization hasn’t tried till now. ‘Loafer is altogether a new format of commercial story which isn’t tried in past. Puri sir helped me to get into skin of my character because I joined ‘Loafer’ in less than one week gap after completion of ‘Kanche.’ So, this is a learning experience for me,’ Varun adds.

‘Loafer’ is a film based on strong mother-son sentiment with protagonist characterization typically written in Puri style. Produced by C Kalyan, this movie introduces Disha Patani as new heroine.

Casting Director Wanted To See Hero’s Private Parts

For decades, Bollywood has been vehemently denying the casting couch menace which is an open secret. Even though it is mostly the female actors who fall prey to casting couch, there are several male actors too who end up becoming victims in this sleazy world.

Now, Bollywood’s happening young star Ranveer Singh broke the walls covering the worst-kept secret of casting couch in an exclusive interview. Ranveer revealed a shocking incident that took place several years ago during his struggling days as an actor.

Apparently, when Ranveer approached a popular casting director in Bollywood for an audition, the ‘sleazy gentleman’ invited him to his residence in Andheri. Ranveer went to his home with his portfolio. However, the casting director didn’t see the portfolio and instead he tried to touch him inappropriately, and even asked Ranveer to show his private parts.

Ranveer quickly escaped from the place only to find out later that the same casting director exploited some of his aspiring actor friends.

Handsome Hero’s 1st Kiss On Jan 1st?

Handsome young hero Naga Shaurya is hoping to strike back with a solid hit to claim his bankable hero image. After failing to score a success with his mass action entertainer, Naga Shaurya has come back to his usual forte of romance with the upcoming Abbayitho Ammayi.

Initially, Abbayitho Ammayi was supposed to release on 24th December as a Christmas special. However, the latest we hear is that the makers have decided to postpone the release by a week and have now zeroed in on 1st January. Apparently, the cutthroat competition with 4 other happening films on 25th December is the reason behind this postponement.

In Abbayitho Ammayi, Naga Shaurya plays the role of a youngster who desperately tries to experience his first kiss. With Gopichand’s Soukhyam being the only mass action entertainer, Mohan Babu-Allari Naresh’s Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu being a wholesome comedy entertainer, Bhale Manchi Roju being released huge by Dil Raju and Sai Korrapati too giving a wide release for Jatha Kalise, the makers of Abbayitho Ammayi didn’t want to take a risk.

Ravishing beauty Palak Lalwani will make her Tollywood debut with the film. Directed by Ramesh Varma, the film has music by Maestro Ilayaraja.

His Silence Can Save Gopi, Balayya!

If there is any one reason for Gopichand ‘Soukhyam’ and Balakrishna ‘Dictator’ to remain scared about, then it is the brand of Kona Venkat attached to both these big releases. Of course, these projects are signed by Kona before his image got tarnished with back to back disasters ‘Tripura, Akhil, Bruce Lee’ and ‘Sankarabharanam.’

Both common audience and critics are furious hearing the name of Kona because he is blamed of being the only sole reason in degrading creative standards of Telugu cinema by forcibly rubbing his self designed template. After four failures, Kona should have realized the severe damage done and he is remaining distant from new movie releases. But still, how far these films are devoid of Kona’s formulaic treatment?

Apparently, makers of both ‘Dictator’ and ‘Soukhyam’ are taking enough precautions by hiding Kona’s name from early promotions. Thankfully, Kona is also not raising any controversy out of this and is damn silent. Hopefully, this silence should help the movies to evolve as Box Office winners.

Kabir Bedi Speaks on Present Cinema Trend

Share

kabir-bedi-compares-present-cinema-business-trend-with-1990_b_1612150916

Film industry equations are dynamically changing. Present situations in comparison with 1990s are a complete contrast. There were times when hit films used to occupy theaters for more than 100 days and 200 days with sustained flow in collections. Now the times have entirely changed and whatever the producer or buyers make will close within first one or two weeks. So, there is nothing like Silver Jubilee films… there is only Super Hit films for one week.

World cinema observer and an artist, model with International acclaim, Kabir Bedi analyzed the big change from 1990 to present. ‘We have forgotten the concept of Silver Jubilee and its history for now. Today, make money within first week and then you forget about the rest. Profits or losses are decided with collections made within these 7 days. Even the velocity of films has increased and there are good numbers of films releasing every week.

With increasing movie releases, demand for theaters is also increased. However, India has lowest theater-to-population ratio in the world. We have just 9000 to 10,000 cinema theaters in India where as America has 40,000. So, there are further of chances of this game to get more changes in future,’ Kabir said.

Mega Prince Varun Tej responded on maverick director Puri Jagannadh’s criticisms on Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s fans. Puri in his recent interview said Pawan’s fans irritated Prabhas and him with their shouts.

However, Varun Tej backed the fans. ” Babai does not usually give public appearances and so fans shout about their hero. During the audio launch event of ‘Loafer’, fans got emotional such that they shouted. Prabhas has taken it light,” said Varun Tej is a media’s interview.
