Le Pen party thwarted in regional vote
France’s far-right Front National, led by Marine Le Pen, has failed to win control of any regions in the final round of local elections despite a historically high score in the first-round when it was ranked as the most popular party in France.
The defeat of the FN was down to mass tactical voting, an increase in turnout and warnings by the left that what it called the “anti-semitic and racist” party would bring France to its knees. All this combined to stop the FN translating its huge first-round score of nearly 28 per cent into the overall control of any region.
But the Socialist Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, deliberately avoided any triumphalism and did not claim that the steady rise of the far-right party had been definitively stopped.
“Tonight there is no relief, no triumphalism, no message of victory,” he said. “The danger of the far right has not been removed — far from it — and I won’t forget the results of the first round and of past elections.” He said it was now the government’s duty to “listen more to the French people” and “to act in a stronger, faster way” particularly on employment in a country with record joblessness.
Exit polls on Sunday night showed that with less than 18 months to go until the next French presidential election, the nationalist, anti-immigration, anti-European FN still gained hundreds of regional councillors across France.
Tech to help animals ‘talk’
“What would the world be like if dogs could talk to us?” asks Melody Jackson, “and not just our pet dogs, but working dogs, police dogs, search and rescue dogs, medical alert dogs?” Jackson isn’t pitching an idea for the next Pixar movie—rather, she’s a computer scientist at Georgia Tech who’s developing innovative new ways for animals to communicate using technology.
Jackson believes that communication technologies can be developed specifically for different kinds of animals. According to Wired, she has already built special computerised vests for service dogs, “so that in an emergency they can find another human and pull a mechanical lever on the vest that triggers an audio message: My handler needs you to come with me!” Service dogs, according to Jackson, perform a range of sophisticated and complex tasks—from identifying explosives by scent to guiding deaf people to the source of a sound — but are unable to communicate the full range of their knowledge. So, Jackson wants to give the dogs a way to communicate more nuanced information—like explosive types and danger levels—with special wearable electronics. It makes sense that much of the initial research in animal-computer interaction has focused on dogs — they’re social animals with a level of language understanding.
But, according to Wired, researchers are also developing systems that will help humans communicate with dolphins, sensors that monitor the well-being of animals, and even cat-human video games.

KCR’s Cigarette Pic Goes Viral
Yesterday, several photographs of Telangana CM KCR meeting his arch rival and AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati made a huge splash in the media and also on social media. Both the Telugu CMs greeted each other affectionately and Chandrababu even arranged a sumptuous lunch with special Andhra delicacies for KCR.
However, here’s one photograph that is going viral on social media since yesterday. The photograph shows the Telangana CM allegedly sticking a cigarette in his mouth and about to light it up on the banks of River Krishna before he flew back to Hyderabad.
AP state’s Minister of Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu is also seen in the photograph. However, there are several arguments in support of the T CM saying that the photograph is morphed and that KCR, who was once a heavy smoker, has quit smoking long back, following his doctor’s advice.

Pawan Fingering In All Departments
Power Star Pawan Kalyan and media baron Sharrath Marrar share good rapport. The two good friends took their relationship to next level by floating individual production houses- North Star Entertainments and Pawan Kalyan Creative Works to produce Pawan Kalyan starrer Sardaar Gabbar Singh and Eros International have also joined them in the middle by investing huge amount on the project.
It may be recalled that, Pawan Kalyan has penned story as well as screenplay for the film. Although Bobby was roped into helm the movie, Pawan Kalyan is looking after all the departments. Sharrath has informed that, Pawan has also conceived action and songs for the mass action entertainer, analogous to what he did with films like Kushi and Gudumba Shankar.
“Sardaar has four action sequences and we have shot two of them till now. Pawan has envisaged it in a certain way and fight masters Ram-Laxman has done the execution part.
Similarly for songs too, he has set the mood and decided the locations,” updated Sharrath. Sardaar next schedule will commence in the first week of January in Hyderabad.
A big street set is being erected for the purpose. Makers are planning to release a new teaser on January 1st. Interim, Sardaar is likely to see theaters in summer.

Naga Chaitanya’s night outs with Shruti Hassan
The makers of Naga Chaitanya’s Majnu are canning a song in a school in Vishakapatnam. Johnny Master is choreographing this song on Chaitanya and Shruti Hassan. The song is being canned in night effects. Vishakapatnam schedule of the movie will take place till 17th of this month.
The team will shift to Rajahmundry after this schedule. Chaitanya will be seen as Vikram in the film while Shruti Hassan will be seen as Sitara in the movie. The makers are planning to complete the entire shoot non-stop and release the film in June/July.
Anupama Parameshwaran and Aisha Sharma are the other heroines in this film which will be directed by Karthikeya fame Chandoo Mondeti.
Hrithik Roshan to replace Arnold in Robot-2?
Our readers are aware that the makers of Rajinikanth and Shankar’s Robot-2 are in talks with Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger to play the villain in the movie. But now for some reason, that is not happening now.
According to the reports emerging from Kollywood, the makers are in talks with Bollywood Star, Hrithik Roshan to replace him. Amy Jackson is playing the female lead in the film. Besides Amy Jackson, the film will also has two other actresses.
The film which has been touted as the biggest-budgeted film in the history of Indian cinema, was officially launched on the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12. The regular shooting will begin later this month.
