Rajugari Gadhi Movie Review – 3/5
Popular Television host Ohmkar made debut as director with Genius which was a dud at the box office. He is back with Rajugari Gadhi that is a horror comedy targeted at the masses.
Story :
More than thirty people were killed in a haunted house in Nandigama. A TV channel plans a reality show by sending seven participants to spend seven days in that haunted palace. They were lured by an attractive prize money of 3 crore. But they will soon come to know that they are surrounded by ghosts and evil spirits in that palace. Will they survive or is there any uncovered secret about the place?
Performances:
Ohmkar’s brother Ashwin Babu played the lead role in the movie. He cannot emote and doesn’t know anything about dialog modulation. This character has lot of scope to perform but Ashwin’s wooden face is a questionable choice. Chetan Cheenu did alright until the pre climax. He has gone overboard in exhibiting grey shades. Poorna is clueless in many scenes. Ohmkar has to be blamed for that. Dhanya is okay. Shakalaka Shankar steals the show with his loud and crude comedy. He is supported by Dhanraj.
Technicalities:
Ohmkar chooses an interesting premise of using a reality show for a horror comedy. He did his best to keep the audience entertained with loud or crude comedy. He didn’t bother about the sensibilities which seem to be working in the favor of the movie. This humor appeals to the masses that don’t mind to laugh at a joke based on farts! However people who like to watch class comedies will be left offended by the taste of the director.
Music is so loud and in sync with the theme of the movie. Cinematography is alright. Editing could have been better in the second hour. Production values are not so impressive as the film is made on a shoestring budget.
Thumbs Up:
- Shakalaka Shankar Performance
- Mass Comedy
- Horror Element
Thumbs Down:
- Loud Humor
- Crude Scenes
- Pathetic Climax
Analysis:
The verdict of Rajugari Gadhi is already out by the time we reviewed this. It has turned out to be a surprise hit with masses lapping it up big time. Ohmkar and others who invested in the film are smiling all the way to the bank. Rajugari Gadhi is yet another horror comedy that has proved to be the most successful bet for small budget films. Ohmkar used his TV host experience to pen this script which seems like an inspiration of The Hunger Games.
Shakalaka Shankar, the one dimensional comedian who has been doing the same in every movie got a chance to walk away with the majority of comedy scenes in RGV. He grabbed the opportunity with both the hands. He should get all the credit for the success of this film. Especially the masses are just having a ball with Shankar’s comedy. Main plot of the film is too silly and there are so many scenes that look absurd and out of place. A ghost drools over Pawan Kalyan’s picture should be laughed off as a joke, if you can!
Back story behind the haunted palace is cliched. When the real reason behind all the show is revealed one has to laugh at themselves for sitting through a film that is based on a stupid plot. However the target audience may not complain much about the pathetic climax as they will have their ticket’s worth in the form of Shankar’s comedy. Rajugari Gadhi may do wonders at the box office for its budget and scale, but it will not please the audience who love to watch sensible comedy and have some meaningful laughs.
Verdict: Room Full Of Crass Humor!

New Scenes for Kanche
Mega Prince Varun Tej had attempted a different genre film for his second movie. The film had evoked mixed response in audience for the movie and the movie openings are also on a slower side. The main reason for the slow collections are due to mixed talk and very dull promotions.
The makers are now planning to increase the publicity activity from Monday and also considering to include few new scenes in the movie to attract repeat audience.
Varun Tej is reportedly in a dilemma over the choice of his films especially after his first two films on commercially weak side. The actor is now banking on his next with Puri to establish as a star hero.
