Kanche Movie Review – 3/5

Share

Kanche is set in the backdrop of World War-II in which two Lakh Indian soldiers fought. Dhoopati Haribabu (Varun Tej) is one such soldier who falls in love with an Upper Caste Princess Sita Devi (Pragya Jaiswal). However their alliance is opposed by Sita’s brother Eeshwar (Niketan Dheer). What happens next in the love and war forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Varun Tej makes an interesting outing with Kanche. The character and his acting is quite a transformation from his debut film. He looked dashing as a soldier and equally lovable in the flashback. The film will be a big break for Pragya Jaiswal. She looked lovely as a Princess and the chemistry between them is too good.

It’s good to see Gollapudi in an interesting role after a long time. Srinivas Avasarala managed good laughs in a little but impactful role. Niketan Dheer makes an impressive debut in a negative role. Rest of the characters are okay.

Technical Performances:

Director Krish Jagarlamudi should be appreciated for attempting a subject of different genre. The first half of the film is gripping with impressive war and love sequences. However the second half gets predictive. The major flaw in the film is the lack of proper emotions which we see in Krish films. Also we expect inspiring sequences in war films which are also missing.

Chiranthan Bhatt did some excellent work with the rerecording. Songs are effective with lot of depth in the lyrics. Art director Sahi Suresh needs a special mention for his excellent work in the war sequences. Editing is okay while dialogues are superb. Production values are appropriate.

Plus Points:

  • Drama and performances.
  • Technical brilliance.
  • Dialogues.
  • Message.

Minus Points:

  • Un-engaging war sequences.
  • Slow paced narration.
  • Predictability.

Final Say:

Kanche is a different attempt to drive Tollywood to a new age cinema where different genres are being explored. However the movie comes with its share of problems like slow narration, predictability and lack of proper emotional depth. But still the film is worth trying.

Vijayawada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday brought soil from the parliament complex and water from the Yamuna for Andhra Pradesh’s new capital Amaravati.

After laying the foundation stone for the capital, Modi presented the soil and water to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The state government brought soil and water from all 16,000 villages and water from holy places belonging to all religions both in India and abroad for use in the development of Amaravati.

Naidu sprinkled a part of this soil and water from a helicopter on Amaravati on Wednesday.

Naidu thanked Modi for contributing to the campaign with the soil from parliament and water from the Yamuna.

He said holy water was brought from all rivers in the country, places of worships of all faiths and the soil from villages of national leaders.

An all-religious prayer meeting was also held at the foundation stone ceremony. The religious leaders of all faiths expressed their best wishes for the development of Amaravati.

Telangana CM in Andhra to bury the hatchet

Vijayawada: If Andhra Pradesh made history by laying the foundation stone for new state capital Amaravati, Vijaya Dasami marked another significant development with Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao joining the event.

He flew in a helicopter from Suryapet in Nalgonda district to reach Uddandarayunipalem, where ministers from Andhra Pradesh received him.

Putting behind the bitterness that marked the Telangana movement and more recently over cash-for-vote scam, Rao accepted his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N. Chandrababu Naidu’s invitation to attend the ceremony.

Undeterred by criticism from the opposition, KCR, as Rao is popularly known, went ahead with his participation in the event.

He not only shared dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the select guests but his name also figured in the foundation stone pylon, a move which drew flak from a section of leaders of Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

This was KCR’s first visit to Andhra in many years. He never visited Andhra or Rayalaseema during the Telangana movement, which he revived by floating the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001.

At the height of the movement for a separate state, he minced no words in attacking Naidu and other leaders from Andhra, blaming them for the backwardness of Telangana.

Known for his acerbic attack on his opponents, KCR triggered many controversies, which were seen as insulting and threatening by people from Andhra, especially those living in Hyderabad.

Even after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh last year, the bitterness continued with the row over various issues including sharing of Krishna river water and electricity.

It took an ugly turn in May this year when a TDP leader of Telangana was caught red handed while offering bribe to a nominated legislator to induce him to vote for TDP candidate in legislative council elections.

The TRS accused Naidu of hatching a conspiracy to topple its governments as an audio tape of his alleged telephonic conversation with the nominated legislator was aired on some television channels.

The two chief ministers were engaged in a bitter war of words, with KCR calling his Andhra counterpart a ‘thief’. Naidu accused the TRS government of tapping his phones and sought the central government’s intervention.

Naidu, who had since started focussing on building the new state capital and is spending little time in Hyderabad, used the foundation stone laying ceremony as an occasion to bury the hatchet.

Political observers say this marks the beginning of a new chapter in the relations between the two states and will help amicably settle various inter-state disputes.

KCR has come under criticism from the Congress for attending the ground breaking ceremony, terming it an insult to the martyrs of Telangana who laid down their lives for a separate state.

Senior leader Ponnala Laxmaiah said this exposed the secret understanding between KCR and Naidu to water down the cash-for-vote and phone tapping cases against each other.

KCR brushed aside the criticism saying he accepted the invitation to keep up Telangana’s give-and-take culture.

A Season Of Surprises!

This has been quite a season of surprises on the political front. All roads seem to lead to Ramoji Film City.

The unthinkable recently happened when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy recently visited Ramoji Rao, his bitter rival at RFC. That again was preceded by the visit of KCR to RFC.

And now Digvijay Singh has gone to visit Ramoji Rao, yet another surprise for Ramoji Rao is a TDP man and completely anti-Congress. But that’s not all!

Speculation is that Rahul Gandhi will also be meeting Ramoji Rao when he visits Hyderabad.

That will be the ultimate coup for Ramoji but more importantly, it will once again underscore the fact that he is the most important man in the politics of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

All of Andhra Pradesh government and its staff are preparing for the grand ceremony that is being planned for the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

Nearly 10 big leaders who are into organising the event including the Andhra Pradesh state BJP chief have already reached the venue. And invitations have gone to all prominent people in the state.

Meanwhile, NTR Jr is said to be in a dilemma. He hasn’t been invited to the ceremony. But apparently he is under pressure by some of his followers to go to the ceremony.

So it is being said that NTR has decided to attend the ceremony despite not being called.

Well, the fact remains that in so-called traditional set-up going uninvited is not considered to be appropriate.
