The cost of printing one rupee note, which was recently re-introduced after a gap of 20 years, is Rs 1.14, more than its value, an RTI query has revealed.

The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India (SPMCIL), under the central government, said in the RTI response that the cost is subject to audit, which is in progress, for financial year 2014-15.

“The cost of one rupee note is Rs 1.14 (provisionally and unaudited) as determined in accordance with the principle of costing and costing module,” it said replying to the application filed by activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal.

The printing of one-rupee notes was discontinued in 1994 because of high printing cost as compared to their lives.

Similarly, the notes of two-rupees and five-rupees denominations were subsequently discontinued for the same reason, Agrawal said. The denominations have been coinised.

However, the Union Finance Ministry subsequent to a gazette-notification dated December 16, 2014 ultimately re-issued one-rupee notes on March 6, 2015 at Shrinathji Temple (Nathdwara), Rajasthan, Agrawal said.

Unlike other currency notes which the bear signature of RBI Governor, the one rupee note has signature of the Finance Secretary, and Agrawal demanded an enquiry into the “retrogressive” step.

“Enquiry should be made if retrogressive step of re-issue of costly one rupee notes was taken so that signature of top bureaucrat of Union Finance Ministry may appear on these notes for becoming a historical feature in future,” he said.

As the news of Mahesh Babu’s most awaited Srimanthudu’s release got postponed on the request of the Baahubali makers, the talk of flop fear came onto the screen. However, responding harshly to these comments, the magnum opus director, SS Rajamouli said “It’s not that we’ve feared Srimanthudu or Baahubali has scared Mahesh Babu like some foolish people are asking. It’s for the well being of film industry. It’s so gracious of Srimanthudu to go back.”

He further gave a clarity saying “There was never like a fight or anything between Baahubali and Srimanthudu as heard in the media. We’re always discussing about placement of these two flicks quite carefully such that no one will get loss. In case if Srimanthudu has come first, then we would have opted for a postponement.”

He said that media has been constantly bombarding with these questions on him and Mahesh too, but Mahesh being a soft man is patiently answering them. He said “Despite media asking such questions, Mahesh is a thorough gentleman and he hasn’t lost his cool despite of these silly questions.

He spoke truth. If these two movies perform well at box office, or too films are bad, or one among them is good and other one is bad, finally both the films will have to enjoy or suffer. Because years of hard work and crores of rupees are at stake.”

So, it is a deal and for better box office collections! Hope this kind of attitude will prevail among others too! But the question is why is Rajamouli not confident about its collections? Does he have any doubt?

Social networking giant Facebook has made significant changes to it wordmark logo a decade after it was first created. The difference between old & new logo could be noticed clearly when they are overlaid.

Font of Facebook wordmark’s new logo is similar to that of the old one, except for letter ‘a’ which has been completely changed. The size of the logo has been reduced marginally and the letter appear a bit slimmer now. Even the gaps incide the letters such as ‘a’, ‘e’, ‘b’ and ‘o’ have been more circular in the new logo.

Facebook’s product designer Christophe Tauziet shared the new logo designed by the company’s in-house design team on his Twitter page. The company is yet to apply the changes as we still see the old wordmark logo which was designed in 2005 on Facebook’s login and logout pages.

Intention behind the modifications is to project Facebook as more friendly and approachable. At the same time, Facebook is very particular it just need an ‘update’ not a ‘full redesign’.
