Post-Sankranti Weekdays Set Crucial Box Office Test for Tollywood Releases

Tollywood has enjoyed a phenomenal box office season during this year’s Sankranti festival. Despite a crowded release slate and a significant shortage of screens, theatres across both Telugu states witnessed packed houses, fully capitalising on the festive mood. The dominance continued overseas as well, with Telugu films registering a strong and sustained run throughout the holiday week.

With the festival now concluded and the first weekend ending on a positive note, films like Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Anaganaga Oka Raju, and Nari Nari Naduma Murari have entered a crucial phase—the all-important weekday test beginning tomorrow.

As Monday marks a return to regular working days, a drop in collections is inevitable across all releases. However, maintaining decent weekday occupancies will be key for films to sustain momentum and continue adding to their box office revenues. Among the lot, Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu is expected to remain the top choice for audiences and continue its strong run, even if it witnesses a marginal dip in collections.

For Anaganaga Oka Raju and Nari Nari Naduma Murari, the coming weekdays will be critical. A steady hold until the next weekend is essential for both films to cross key trade milestones. Meanwhile, Raja Saab and Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi, which opened decently but later lost steam, are likely to see sharper drops due to below-par word of mouth. That said, they are expected to retain limited screens through the weekend in hopes of a turnaround.

Overall, the post-festival weekdays will serve as an acid test for all releases, with their final box office verdict largely hinging on how well they perform once the festive advantage fades.
