Tamil Nadu is gearing up for a crucial electoral battle, with polling scheduled for April 23 and the counting of votes set for May 4. As the political atmosphere intensifies, discussions have been circulating about a possible alliance between Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
At one stage, speculation even suggested that Pawan Kalyan, president of the Jana Sena Party and a key ally within the NDA, had advised Vijay to join the alliance and was influencing his political decisions.
However, when asked about these reports, Pawan Kalyan strongly dismissed the claims. He clarified that he and Vijay had not met in recent years and that their last meeting took place nearly 25 years ago. Kalyan also expressed surprise over the speculation, stating that he had no role in influencing Vijay’s political choices. He added that the best way for any leader to succeed in politics is to stay close to the people and remain connected with the public.
Speaking about the controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan, Kalyan remarked that it was not wise for the film’s makers to approach the courts and later blame the NDA government for the situation. He also pointed out that his own film They Call Him OG had received an A certificate, suggesting that filmmakers should handle such matters more carefully.
Kalyan’s comments make it clear that he has not advised Vijay to join the NDA and that the two have not even interacted for more than two decades. As a result, the claims circulating on social media appear to be largely unfounded rumors.
At the same time, political observers note that Pawan Kalyan’s own experience may offer a broader lesson. After facing a tough electoral setback in 2019, his alliance with the NDA played a significant role in strengthening his political position in 2024. Whether Vijay will draw inspiration from that strategy or choose to contest independently in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections remains to be seen.
