Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan took a firm stance in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, launching a scathing attack on the previous YSR Congress government. He accused the YSRC leadership of severely damaging government systems and misusing public funds, particularly under the MGNREGA scheme.
Pawan Kalyan alleged that YSRC leaders had siphoned off ₹250 crore meant for workers, presenting evidence in the Assembly. He stated that instead of ensuring employment benefits reached the poor, the previous government turned MGNREGA into a political tool, using it for their advantage. Upon assuming charge as Panchayat Raj Minister, Pawan initiated special measures to reform the system, making the scheme more transparent and beneficial to all. However, his findings revealed that large-scale embezzlement had taken place during the YSRC regime.
Criticizing the corrupt practices of the past government, Pawan Kalyan highlighted that officials overseeing the scheme had themselves engaged in fraudulent activities, leading to massive financial losses. He admitted that upon discovering the extent of corruption, he was shocked by the sheer scale of mismanagement. He further revealed that the YSRC had systematically covered up evidence, making it challenging to track the full extent of the fraud.
Pawan Kalyan also pointed out that while the central government had sanctioned wage hikes for workers under the scheme, YSRC leaders diverted those funds through fraudulent documentation. He explained that fake work records were created, listing workers as having worked for more days than they actually did, to funnel funds away from genuine laborers.
The Deputy CM reaffirmed his commitment to exposing corruption, stating that he had been closely monitoring the issue and would continue to take strict action against those responsible.
