The promotions of ‘Ponniyin Selvan – 2’ are in full swing right now. With the movie all set to hit the screens on 28th April, the entire team is going all over the country and are making sure that the hype is generated on this magnum opus. The main cast of the movie is taking part in pre-release events, interviews and media interactions.

In the midst of all these hectic promotions, Trisha took time to post a lovely click on social media which is currently going viral. With a couple of heart emojis, Trisha shared a click where she posed with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and called it a ‘Nan and Kun’ moment. As we know, Aishwarya plays the role of Nandini while Trisha will be seen as Kundavai in the movie. There is a myth that female co-stars can’t be friends but the star actresses proved everyone wrong.

During the promotions, Trisha once said, “I fortunately got to meet her and interact with her on the day one of my shoot. She is beautiful inside and out, I don’t even need to say that. The thing is, this was challenging because we are not supposed to like each other too much in this film, but we got along pretty famously on set. There were times when Mani sir would come and say, ‘listen, you guys are taking too much, stop talking, I can’t have this camaraderie for my scene’. There were times when he would scold us too.”

Talking about Aishwarya, the ‘Varsham’ actress earlier said, “She is so warm and one of the most hardworking actors I have worked with. She spoke in chaste Tamil and how it has to be spoken. She will get up at 2 am and get ready with us. I am very honoured that I could share a screen space with her.”

Produced under Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and R Parthiban are playing key roles. AR Rahman is the music composer. Ravi Varman is the director of photography while Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The action was composed by Kecha Khamphakdee, Sham Kaushal & Dhilip Subbarayan. As we are aware, Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram and Jayam Ravi are the male leads in this flick.

Can Chennai Love Story Beat the Box Office Clash?

July 16, 2026

Kiran Abbavaram is gearing up for one of the biggest releases of his career with Chennai Love Story, which is scheduled to hit theatres on July 23. Directed by Baby fame Sai Rajesh, the romantic drama has generated strong expectations among audiences and the trade.

Given its title and backdrop, the makers had also planned to target the Tamil Nadu market with a wider release. However, those plans now face a major challenge following the confirmation of Vijay’s much-awaited Jana Nayagan for the same release date.

Despite the high-profile clash, the team behind Chennai Love Story remains optimistic. They believe that both films cater to different audiences and that a strong word of mouth can help each find its own space at the box office. While the makers had hoped for a solid opening in Tamil Nadu, they are confident that quality content will ultimately determine the film’s success.

The competition isn’t limited to Tamil Nadu alone. In the Telugu market, Chennai Love Story could also face stiff competition. The impressive theatrical run of Lenin and the continued buzz surrounding Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey may impact footfalls, particularly in multiplexes and urban centres.

Adding another layer to the competition, industry buzz suggests that producer Dil Raju is planning a Telugu release for Jana Nayagan on the same day. If that happens, Kiran Abbavaram’s film will have to compete with Vijay’s big-ticket entertainer in both Tamil and Telugu markets.

Even so, trade analysts believe that if Chennai Love Story earns positive reviews and strong audience appreciation, it has every chance of overcoming the competition and emerging as a successful release despite the crowded box-office landscape.
