AR Rahman Criticizes Remixes and Formulaic Filmmaking

Oscar‑winning music composer AR Rahman has expressed his disappointment over the growing trend of remixes in today’s music and film industry. In a recent interview, he shared how the innocence and creativity that once defined filmmaking have gradually been replaced by pre‑set templates and redundant ideas.

Rahman, who has shaped countless iconic soundtracks over the years, stated that although it is a positive sign when filmmakers have a clear vision, the downside is that many are now chasing ideas that have worked in the past — resulting in an overreliance on remixes and safe formulas.

He warned that this trend is not limited to Bollywood but has become widespread across global cinema, including Hollywood. According to him, audiences are being suffocated by repetitive ideas, making it harder for original and experimental work to flourish.

Rahman emphasized that it is independent cinema that is now leading the charge — taking creative risks and focusing on genuine, original storytelling. In an era where making money often takes precedence over making meaningful art, indie films are providing a much‑needed space for innovation and creative freedom.
