The Indian state of Manipur, which witnessed devastating ethnic clashes in 2023 resulting in the loss of around 260 lives, has now received its first visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the violence.

Arriving in the state earlier today, Modi inaugurated a series of development projects worth ₹7,000 crore, aimed at boosting infrastructure and restoring growth in the region.

During his address, the Prime Minister urged the people of Manipur to end violence and embrace peaceful dialogue to ensure the state’s progress. He also met with victims of the clashes, spent time listening to their concerns, and assured them of complete support from the Centre.

Acknowledging the criticism he faced in 2023 for his silence during the height of the unrest, Modi adopted a more assertive tone this time, emphasizing that his government is firmly committed to the welfare and future of Manipur’s people.
