Chiranjeevi Steps Back from Remakes After Recent Setbacks

Has Megastar Chiranjeevi taken a sensational decision to step away from remake films? Going by the latest reports from industry circles, it seems the actor has become increasingly wary of remakes, especially after a couple of recent setbacks.

Chiranjeevi’s Godfather, a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, was released with high expectations but failed to deliver the desired results at the box office. The film was produced under his home banner, Konidela Production Company, in association with Super Good Films. The underwhelming performance led to financial losses.

Following this, Chiranjeevi starred in another remake — Bholaa Shankar, directed by Meher Ramesh and based on the Malayalam hit Vedalam. This film too failed to meet expectations and ended up as a major disappointment. Notably, Chiranjeevi was not involved in the production of Bholaa Shankar, which was produced by AK Entertainments.

After these two consecutive setbacks from remakes, reports suggest that Chiranjeevi has become cautious. Several directors reportedly approached him with remake projects — including V.V. Vinayak, who proposed a remake of a Hindi film, and another filmmaker who suggested remaking Empuraan (Lucifer 2). However, Chiranjeevi is said to have politely declined both proposals.

According to sources close to the Megastar’s camp, Chiranjeevi has decided to focus only on straight (original) scripts for the time being. He has reportedly stated that he won’t consider any remake projects for now, unless the story feels entirely fresh and unique. That said, he hasn’t ruled out remakes permanently — it appears to be a temporary break rather than a complete rejection.

The message is clear: for Chiranjeevi to even consider a story, it has to be original and compelling from the get-go.
