The tragic suicide of the 25-year-old PhD scholar at HCU, Rohith Vemula, has kicked off an intense political storm across the country. With BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya’s involvement in the case, opposition parties have been trying hard to push BJP to the corner.
Now, in his first reaction towards Rohith’s suicide, PM Modi today said that he can feel the pain his family is going through. “Mother India has lost her son. Politics aside, the fact is that we lost a son.
I can understand the pain,” Modi said while addressing a large student community at the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow. Modi further said it is unfortunate that Rohith was pushed to a situation where he had to end his life by committing suicide.
However, angry students interrupted Modi’s speech several times by slogan shouting against the party’s leaders who wrote a letter to the HRD Ministry suggesting a disciplinary action on Rohith and 4 other students.
