Senior Congress leader and Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddharamaiah has said that veteran film actress Sumalatha will not be contesting from Mandya Lok Sabha segment, because Congress’s partner JDS is likely to fight this seat as part of the alliance. ‘
Since Mandya is being represented by JDS now, it is more likely they would retain this seat. So, we do not have an option to give Mandya seat to Sumalatha. However if she wants to contest as an independent, it’s her decision,’ said Siddharamaiah. On other hand, a rumor is under circulation that CM Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil may contest from this LS segment as JDS party candidate.
Since Sumalatha is a well known actress down south and Mandya being a stronghold region for her late husband Ambareesh, Congress party leaders are quite keen to field her in Mandya. Also, the sympathy factor would work in favour of her. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to give their support to Sumalatha if she fights the poll battle from Mandya as an independent candidate.
The discussion between Congress and JDS over seat sharing is already on and at this point of time, the former CM has exuded confidence that his party would win 20 out of 28 seats in coming parliament elections.
