Pooja Hegde’s Deva Struggles at the Box Office

In Bollywood’s competitive world, a film’s success can often feel like a game of chance—sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. For Pooja Hegde, Deva was meant to be her comeback after the setbacks of Cirkus and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. However, despite much anticipation, the film has unfortunately failed to meet expectations at the box office.

On its opening day, Deva managed only ₹4.65 crore nett across India—a figure that’s concerning for a star-driven film. Despite being released in almost 12,000 shows, the film saw a disappointing 8% occupancy, indicating a lack of interest from audiences. In prime markets like Mumbai and Delhi, where mass entertainers typically do well, the response was underwhelming. The film’s poor start can be attributed to multiple factors, including minimal pre-release buzz, weak promotions, and an unimpressive music album. Overseas collections have also struggled, contributing to the overall lackluster performance.

As the weekend approaches, all eyes are on Deva to see if it can pick up momentum. With Sky Force also underperforming, the window is open for Deva to turn things around. But given the low opening, it faces an uphill battle. Directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrews and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, the film is a remake of Mumbai Police starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. If it fails to show significant growth over the weekend, it may become yet another forgotten film in Pooja’s career.

Despite this early setback, Pooja Hegde isn’t giving up. She has two Tamil films, Retro and Jana Nayagan, as well as a Bollywood project, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, coming up. However, with recent flops stacking up, the pressure is mounting. If her upcoming projects don’t succeed, she could find herself slipping from Bollywood’s A-list, with Deva serving as a stark reminder of how fickle fame can be.
