Prakash Raj Slams Bollywood Silence, Defends Freedom of Expression

Actor Prakash Raj, known for his bold and candid opinions, has once again ignited a heated debate—this time targeting Bollywood celebrities for their silence on pressing political issues. In a recent interview, the veteran actor criticized the film industry for not taking a stand when freedom of speech is under threat.

Prakash Raj accused a section of his colleagues of being “sold out” while stating that the rest remain silent out of fear. Recounting a personal interaction, he said a friend once told him, “You have the strength to speak, but not everyone does.” To this, Prakash Raj responded, “I understand your fear, but I cannot forgive your silence. When history is written, those who committed wrongs may be forgiven, but those who remained silent will not.”

He emphasized that artists and filmmakers have a moral responsibility to speak out against suppression and injustice. In his view, authoritarian regimes deliberately try to silence voices of dissent, and it’s the duty of creative individuals to challenge that narrative.

Speaking on the recent controversy over the ban of Abir Gulaal, a film featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, Prakash Raj strongly opposed the decision. “No film should be banned unless it promotes something unacceptable like child abuse or pornography. Creative freedom must be respected, regardless of political context,” he asserted.

His remarks, particularly in light of the current Indo-Pak tensions and censorship debates, have gone viral and stirred intense discussions across social media platforms.
