Prasanth Varma Under Pressure as Rajamouli’s Varanasi Nears

Share

Tollywood director Prasanth Varma shot to nationwide fame with the blockbuster HanuMan, starring Teja Sajja. Riding on that momentum, he swiftly announced its sequel, Jai HanuMan, which became even bigger after Mythri Movie Makers joined the project and Kantara star Rishab Shetty came on board. Naturally, expectations skyrocketed.

But the director now finds himself in a difficult spot.

Prasanth Varma’s growing list of commitments — and his habit of taking advances from multiple producers without completing earlier projects — has led to serious complaints at the Producers Council and the Film Chamber. And just as he tries to navigate these issues, an even larger challenge has emerged from none other than SS Rajamouli.

The glimpse of Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi revealed that the Mahesh Babu starrer not only draws inspiration from the Ramayana, but also places significant emphasis on Lord Hanuman. With the film locked for a Summer 2027 release, the pressure on Prasanth Varma has intensified.

If Jai HanuMan doesn’t hit theatres before Varanasi, it risks being completely overshadowed by Rajamouli’s massive, high-stakes epic. For Prasanth Varma, speeding up production is no longer a creative choice — it’s essential for the survival, relevance, and impact of his franchise.
