Popular actress Priyamani, known for her powerful performances across Telugu and Tamil cinema, has earned immense popularity in South India. However, in recent years, there’s been growing speculation that she’s shifting her focus more toward the North Indian film industry. Many netizens have observed that her recent comments in interviews seem to favor Bollywood, sparking discussions online. Now, her latest remarks about the North industry and its working style have once again gone viral.
Getting into the details — for the past few months, many celebrities have been openly talking about the differences between South and North Indian industries, not just in terms of remuneration but also working hours. Joining that discussion, Priyamani recently shared her thoughts, offering a clear perspective on the topic.
Speaking about remuneration, Priyamani said:
“I have never prioritized money over my work. Payment always depends on one’s stardom and the scope of the role. I quote my remuneration accordingly. There were days when I took less pay than my co-actors, and I have no regrets about it. If I feel a role demands more effort or has longer screen time, I discuss and request accordingly. But I’ve never forced any producer or director to pay me extra unnecessarily.”
She also opened up about the difference in work culture between the two industries:
“The shooting schedules in the South and North are completely different. In the South, if the call sheet says 8 AM, shooting actually begins at 8. But in the North, if it’s 8 AM, that’s when the actors start leaving their homes. That’s the basic difference between both industries,” she said, with a laugh.
These comments have gone viral, sparking another round of debate on social media.
Coming to her career — Priyamani made her Hindi debut with Raavan and her Telugu debut with Evare Atagadu. Though the latter didn’t fare well, she later made a strong comeback with Pellaina Kothalo, which earned her wide recognition. Over the years, she has acted in multiple successful films across languages and has also gained attention as a television show judge.
On the work front, Priyamani will next be seen in Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) and is also reprising her role in the upcoming season of the hit web series The Family Man 3.
