In a shocking incident, a Tamil film producer committed suicide, and cited threats and harassment from a financier as the reason for his extreme step.
B. Ashok Kumar, who co-produced good number of films, mainly featuring actor-director Sasi Kumar, committed suicide last night at his residence in Chennai. In his suicide note, he accused a film financier based in Madhurai of pushing him to end his life.
Reports say that Kumar has been taking loans from this financier, who allegedly charges exorbitant interest. He claimed to have paid huge interest amount to the financier in the past seven years. The note claims that Kumar couldn’t withstand the never-ending threats from the financier, who has big connections in political and film circuit.
The Tamil film fraternity was shocked with the tragic incident. Actor Vishal, who, in the capacity of the President of Tamil film Producer’s Council, warned such greedy financiers against charging high interests.
Police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) against the financier, and if it was proved that he had been involved in usury, he could be booked under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act, 2003.
