Tollywood filmmaker Puri Jagannadh has always been known for his dramatic highs and equally dramatic lows. But one defining trait has remained constant throughout his career — every time critics write him off after consecutive debacles, he finds a way to bounce back. Now, after the twin disappointments of Liger and Double iSmart, Puri finds himself at a familiar crossroads once again.
Following a brief break, Puri teamed up with Vijay Sethupathi for a high-octane action entertainer earlier this year. Puri is famous for his lightning-fast filmmaking — completing shoots in a single stretch, even with top-tier actors, a pace unmatched by any South Indian director of his stature.
Staying true to that reputation, Puri has once again pulled off an impressive feat by wrapping Vijay Sethupathi’s film in just four months. The shoot, which began in July, has now been completed. To mark the occasion, the makers released a short video capturing Sethupathi’s emotion and excitement as the film wrapped.
This project is extremely crucial for Puri, both as a director and producer, given the massive losses incurred by his previous two films. A hit this time is not just desirable — it’s necessary. With a powerhouse performer like Sethupathi leading the cast, expectations are naturally high. The film also features Samyuktha Menon and Tabu in key roles.
Slum Dog and Beggar are the titles currently under consideration. The official title and release date will be announced soon, and the team is gearing up to begin promotions. The film is set for a multi-language release next year, and all eyes are on whether this will mark the much-needed comeback Puri has been chasing.
