Share

Qualcomm officially unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform on Wednesday in San Diego, marking a major leap forward in premium smartphone performance and intelligent mobile experiences. As part of the expanding Snapdragon 8-series lineup, the new platform brings flagship-grade power, efficiency, and AI-driven capabilities to a broader range of premium devices.

Next-Level Performance

At the heart of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the custom-built Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU, capable of reaching speeds up to 3.8 GHz. The platform delivers a substantial 36% performance boost over its predecessor, along with a 76% improvement in web browsing responsiveness, ensuring smoother multitasking and faster app performance.

Graphics receive a notable upgrade with the Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU, which introduces an innovative sliced architecture. This design enables higher clock speeds and improves gaming and graphics performance by 11%. AI processing also sees a major uplift, with the Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPU offering up to 46% better AI performance.

Smarter, More Intuitive Mobile Experiences

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 aims to redefine how users interact with their smartphones through enhanced on-device intelligence. With support from the Qualcomm® Sensing Hub, devices can instantly activate AI assistants as soon as the user picks up the phone, using combined microphone and sensor inputs to detect intent.

Powered by the advanced Qualcomm® AI Engine, the platform enables more intuitive, context-aware digital assistants capable of delivering personalised suggestions and seamless agentic interactions. From AI-enhanced camera performance to immersive gaming, the chipset is designed to place users at the centre of their mobile experience.

OEM Adoption and Availability

Leading global OEMs—including iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, and Vivo—will adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in their upcoming flagship devices, with first launches expected soon.

Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., highlighted the platform’s role in elevating next-generation premium smartphones, stating that Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 “empowers users with the speed, intelligence, and efficiency they need to perform at their peak and unlock their full creative potential.”
