The BJP is increasingly realizing that winning the assembly elections in five states is not an easy task. There is mounting displeasure at the BJP style of governance and the anti-incumbency is growing by each passing day. The farmers are angry with the Modi government and this could have a serious impact on the voting in the five states – Manipur, Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand – that are going to polls.
In the recent West Bengal elections, the BJP tried every trick in the trade but could not defeat the Mamta Banerjee led TMC. It is clear that the farmer vote has played a key role in the defeat of Narendra Modi in West Bengal. The leaders and representatives of the farmers organizations had actively campaigned against Narendra Modi. Their efforts have paid off and the BJP failed to win in West Bengal. If sources are to be believed, the farmers are planning to campaign in these five states too.
Also, most of the agitating farmers are from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. So, these farmers will now camp in UP, Punjab and Uttarakhand and work against the BJP. They have decided to launch Quit Modi campaign. This is said to be giving sleepless nights to the BJP in all the five states. It may be recalled that many BJP leaders could not even campaign in Punjab municipal polls. Poll pundits say that the BJP could find the going tough in Uttarakhand too.
