The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband, businessman Raj Kundra, on Monday in connection with a Rs 60-crore cheating case, officials said. Kundra (50) was questioned for over five hours at an undisclosed location to avoid media attention.
An official stated, “We recorded Kundra’s statement today and will likely summon him again next week, as many more witnesses need to be verified before the next round of interrogation.” No summons have been issued to Shilpa Shetty, who is also a co-accused, as the EOW is still gathering evidence.
The case pertains to allegations that the couple, along with some unidentified individuals, duped a businessman of Rs 60.4 crore through a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The complaint was filed by businessman Deepak Kothari (60), director of the non-banking financial company Lotus Capital Finance Services.
Earlier this month, the police issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) against Shetty and Kundra. An LOC alerts immigration and border authorities to prevent the individuals from leaving the country or to monitor their movements closely.
