Acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has long expressed his desire to bring the Indian adaptation of the Hindu epic Mahabharata to the silver screen. He has often stated that this ambitious project would mark the final chapter of his illustrious career, as he wants to gain ample experience before embarking on such a monumental journey.
Now, there’s an exciting new update from his father and chief writer, K.V. Vijayendra Prasad. The veteran screenwriter confirmed that the Mahabharata adaptation is being planned as a three-part cinematic saga, with pre-production and development progressing steadily. The project will move forward based on the availability of Rajamouli and his lead actors.
Interestingly, Rajamouli has already finalized a stellar principal cast, reportedly locking in Prabhas, Jr. NTR, and Nani for key roles in the epic. With such a lineup and a trilogy format, there’s now greater scope for collaborations with other top-tier actors across the country, making the scale of the project even more massive.
While there were earlier speculations that Rajamouli might split the epic into five parts to cover every major episode in detail, it appears he has chosen a more practical route with a three-part structure. Given Rajamouli’s cinematic legacy and the vast market potential of Mahabharata, it’s safe to say that no Indian actor would decline the opportunity to be part of this magnum opus.
Now, all eyes are on when Rajamouli will officially launch this dream project — one that has the potential to redefine Indian cinema once again.
