For the first time in his illustrious career, director S.S. Rajamouli has commenced shooting a film without an official media announcement or press conference. Unlike previous projects, all updates about this highly anticipated venture—currently referred to as SSMB29—have emerged exclusively through social media posts from the film’s stars and reports by dedicated entertainment journalists.
The untitled film, an adventure thriller co-written by Rajamouli and SS Kanchi and reportedly inspired by the works of Wilbur Smith, stars Mahesh Babu in a role reminiscent of Indiana Jones. The ensemble cast also includes Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Produced by KL Narayana, the project will feature a musical score by MM Keeravani.
Principal photography began in January 2025, raising expectations of a late 2026 release. However, early production challenges have prompted a revision of this timeline. Industry insiders now believe that the film’s completion and theatrical release are more likely to occur in the second half of 2027.
Mahesh Babu’s fans had eagerly anticipated a swift completion, but the unfolding circumstances have shifted the schedule, making patience a virtue for those awaiting this ambitious project.
