The collaboration between Prabhas and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for their upcoming film Spirit has continued to spark discussion online, particularly following the release of an audio teaser on Prabhas’ birthday. The teaser, which described Prabhas as “India’s Biggest Superstar,” drew significant attention for both its tone and positioning.
While the teaser received strong approval among audiences in the South, reception in the North was more divided. Many social media users questioned the claim, arguing that Shah Rukh Khan — often referred to as the country’s most internationally recognized actor — has long held the title of India’s leading star.
The debate gained new momentum on November 2, after the release of a teaser for King, the upcoming film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, directed by Siddharth Anand. Although the teaser itself did not highlight any titles, Siddharth Anand’s accompanying post on X drew widespread attention. Anand wrote, “When stars go beyond being just a superstar, they are called King. Happy Birthday INDIA’s KING, Shah Rukh Khan,” alongside a picture of himself with the actor.
The post was widely interpreted as a subtle response to the “India’s Biggest Superstar” label used for Prabhas, sparking discussion of a possible indirect exchange between the Spirit and King teams. Online chatter has since framed it as a symbolic face-off between Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Siddharth Anand.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for his forthright and assertive public persona, has not yet commented on the matter, but many expect a reaction in the coming days. Adding an interesting layer to the narrative is the fact that Siddharth Anand was once in early discussions to direct Prabhas for a project under Mythri Movie Makers — a collaboration that ultimately did not materialize.
As both films move forward with massive anticipation, the emerging discourse highlights the evolving dynamics of stardom, regional fanbases, and cinematic identity in Indian cinema’s current pan-India era.
