Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, currently busy with his upcoming action entertainer Coolie starring Superstar Rajinikanth, recently revealed an exciting personal detail about the legendary actor. During a media interview, Lokesh shared that Rajinikanth has been working on his autobiography, writing consistently during the last two schedules of Coolie.
“He used to write every day,” Lokesh said, recalling how he would regularly check in with the superstar. “I’d ask him what episode or phase he was writing about, and he’d tell me stories from different stages of his life, like what happened when he was 42. It was a deeply personal experience that I will always treasure.” Lokesh also added that Rajinikanth shared some stories with him that he hadn’t shared with anyone else.
The film Coolie itself is generating massive buzz. Not only is it Rajinikanth’s 171st film, but it also marks his reunion with actor Sathyaraj after nearly 38 years—their last film together being the 1986 hit Mr. Bharath. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had earlier turned down roles in Rajini’s blockbuster films like Enthiran and Sivaji.
Another highlight is that Coolie has already made history by becoming the highest overseas procurement for a Tamil film so far. Hamsini Entertainment is handling global distribution and is planning a massive international release in over 100 countries when the film hits screens on August 14.
The movie will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his fourth collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. Cinematography is by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj.
Contrary to fan speculation, Coolie will not be part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) and will stand alone, centered around a gold smuggling plot.
With Rajinikanth’s personal memoir in progress and a major cinematic release on the horizon, Coolie is shaping up to be a landmark film in both his career and Tamil cinema history.
