Coolie has emerged as one of the most highly anticipated films in Tamil cinema, and every development surrounding the project is drawing significant attention. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring the legendary Rajinikanth, the film marks the first collaboration between the celebrated filmmaker and the superstar, adding to the excitement among fans and industry watchers alike.

In a recent interaction, director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed a key creative choice that sets Coolie apart from many of today’s visual-heavy films. He confirmed that the film will not feature any computer-generated imagery (CGI), stating that less than one minute of green mat footage was used—only where it was absolutely unavoidable. Notably, all action sequences and scenes involving Rajinikanth were filmed entirely in real locations.

At a time when large-scale productions are often criticized for an over-reliance on digital effects, Lokesh’s decision to embrace practical filmmaking is seen as a refreshing departure. This approach is expected to bring a raw, grounded visual texture that resonates with audiences seeking authenticity on screen.

The move has been praised for its potential to recapture the essence of old-school cinema—prioritizing realism, grit, and immersive storytelling over spectacle. With Rajinikanth in the lead and Lokesh Kanagaraj known for his stylish yet substance-driven narratives, Coolie is shaping up to be a landmark film in contemporary South Indian cinema.

Scheduled for release on August 14, Coolie is already generating immense buzz and could well redefine the visual language of mainstream Tamil films.
