Ram Gopal Varma Announces ‘SYNDICATE’, A Futuristic Crime Thriller

Ram Gopal Varma, once regarded as the next big name in Indian cinema following his exceptional debut as a director, has experienced a tumultuous journey in his career. After delivering several cult classics, the filmmaker’s trajectory slowed, and his recent works failed to match the brilliance of his earlier years.

However, Varma seems poised for a grand comeback with what he claims to be his most ambitious project yet. Sharing his excitement on social media, the director sounded confident about reclaiming his place among India’s finest filmmakers.

The film, titled SYNDICATE, explores the evolution of crime syndicates over the decades. Varma shared intriguing insights into its concept, tweeting:
“STREET GANGS which flourished till the 70s were absorbed into hardline political parties. Later, smugglers rose to power with the demand for electronic goods and gold but were crushed by economic reforms. Then came corporate gangs like D COMPANY, which were also eventually destroyed. SYNDICATE takes this narrative further into the future.”

Describing the film as a futuristic crime action thriller, Varma clarified that it isn’t set in a distant timeline but in a near-future scenario. He added:
“SYNDICATE is a futuristic story not set in the far-off future but something that could happen tomorrow or next week. For instance, the world woke up to AL QAEDA on September 11, 2001, without knowing of its existence just a day earlier.”

While further details about the cast, crew, and other updates are yet to be revealed, Varma’s ambitious vision has sparked curiosity and excitement among his fans. If this project truly marks a return to form, Indian cinema could once again celebrate the creative genius of Ram Gopal Varma.
