Ram Gopal Varma Criticizes Game Changer’s Box Office Claims

Controversial director Ram Gopal Varma has once again stirred controversy by targeting sections of Telugu cinema fandom, this time indirectly criticizing the box office claims of Ram Charan’s upcoming film, Game Changer. In a series of tweets, Varma questioned the credibility of the film’s reported production cost and collection figures.

Varma wrote, “If Game Changer cost ₹450 crore, then RRR, with its extraordinary, never-before-seen visual appeal, should have cost ₹4,500 crore. If Game Changer’s first-day collections are ₹186 crore, then Pushpa 2’s collections should have been ₹1,860 crore. The point is, the fundamental requirement of truth is that it should sound believable. In the context of Game Changer, even a lie should sound more believable.”

The director further accused the claims surrounding Game Changer of undermining the achievements of South Indian cinema, particularly films like Baahubali, RRR, KGF 2, and Kantara. He argued that the inflated figures associated with Game Changer tarnish the reputation and credibility built by these blockbuster hits.

RGV added, “I truly don’t know who’s behind this humiliating insult to the extraordinary achievements of the South. Thanks to Baahubali, RRR, KGF 2, and others, South Indian cinema reached new heights. Now, these claims will put those achievements in doubt.”

He also clarified his belief that producer Dil Raju, known for his pragmatic approach, could not be behind the alleged exaggerations. “Dil Raju is a grounded realist and incapable of the fraud that is being committed,” he remarked.

Varma’s comments have sparked mixed reactions, with fans and industry insiders debating the authenticity of Game Changer’s claims and the implications of such statements on Telugu cinema’s reputation.
