In a candid and clear message, Rashmika explained that the delay wasn’t arbitrary. Directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend explores themes that go beyond the usual romantic tropes, making it a unique and ambitious project. She emphasized that the film holds a special place for her and the team, and getting it right has taken time — but it’s for the right reasons.

She also gave a nod to her upcoming release Kuberaa, which is slated to hit theatres on June 20, 2025. The film’s teaser, which dropped back in December 2024, gave a glimpse of her character’s college journey, her dynamic with Dheekshith Shetty’s role, and a surprise voiceover by Vijay Deverakonda.
