It’s quite shocking to see the extremely poor response for a Ravi Teja film. The opening collections of Mass Jathara, which hit theatres today, have turned out to be disappointing across all regions — a stark contrast to the star’s usual crowd-pulling power.
At Prasads Multiplex, the first show at 5:30 PM failed to go houseful, with many seats still unsold. The situation for the later shows looks even more concerning, with several theatres witnessing zero audience turnout, and some even considering show cancellations due to the lack of footfall.
Unless the film receives a miraculous turnaround through word of mouth, the fate of Mass Jathara appears bleak. The advance bookings for the next day are equally discouraging, as almost all theatres are showing ample availability — indicating no demand.
The overseas market, especially the USA, has also shown a negligible response, which is quite rare for a Ravi Teja starrer.
Industry circles are now debating the reasons behind this nightmare opening. Some blame the outdated trailer and weak promotional campaign, while others point to the impact of Baahubali: The Epic, which released just before and drew audiences away.
A theatre owner remarked, “Movie lovers who just sat through four hours of Baahubali: The Epic are clearly exhausted. They don’t seem eager to rush for Mass Jathara immediately after. The fatigue is visible in the poor openings.”
