RCB Clinch Maiden IPL Title After 18-Year Wait with Thrilling Win Over PBKS

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, ending an 18-year drought with a dramatic six-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first, RCB posted 190/9 in 20 overs, thanks to crucial contributions from Virat Kohli (43), Rajat Patidar (26), and impactful lower-order cameos. PBKS bowler Arshdeep Singh (3-40) and Lockie Ferguson (3-38) impressed but couldn’t restrict RCB below the 190-mark.

In reply, PBKS looked steady at 98/4 with Prabhsimran Singh leading the charge, but a flurry of wickets—including key dismissals by Swapnil Singh and Cameron Green—derailed their chase. Prabhsimran’s 37-ball 45 was the highlight, but a lack of support and disciplined bowling from RCB, especially in the death overs, sealed the match.

Shashank Singh gave PBKS a late glimmer of hope with a quickfire 37 in 17 balls, featuring three sixes, but brilliant spells from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal ensured RCB held their nerve. PBKS ended at 184/7, falling just six runs short.

RCB’s bowlers held firm under pressure, with impactful spells from Dayal (2-28), Green (1-25), and Jamieson (3-48). This victory marks RCB’s first IPL title after years of near-misses, providing sweet redemption for the franchise and its loyal fanbase.
